NEW YORK KNICKS ASSOCIATION UPDATE #8
Played the first 5 games of the month of January, won them all, and then I got bored of winning, so I switched the difficulty and simulated the rest of the month. We finished up the month of January 10-5, losing five six games at one point before winning the last two.
Just in case I forgot to mention it last update, I waived DeSagana Diop.
Eastern Conference Standings:

PLAYER NOTES:
STARTERS
PG - Greivis Vasquez
January Stats: 12 GP, 11.7 PPG, 3.6 RPG, 4.9 APG, .558 FG %, .600 3PT FG %
Season Stats: 37 GP, 30.8 MPG, 13.2 PPG, 3.7 RPG, 6.8 APG, .495 FG %, .461 3PT FG %Vazquez returned early in the month, but really did not seem to initially pick up where he left off. In the last two games of the month, however, he eclipsed 20 points in both games. His assist numbers are down, but he still is a solid secondary scorer for the Knicks.
SG - Aaron Afflalo
January Stats: 14 GP, 9.9 PPG, 3.3 RPG, 2.1 APG, .385 FG %, .340 3PT FG%
Season Stats: 41 GP, 29.7 MPG, 8.5 PPG, 4.2 RPG, 2.8 APG, .403 FG %, .323 3PT FG %Afflalo still hasn't had the same kind of offensive production as he has the past three years. With guys like Vasquez, Anthony, and even Noel scoring solid points, the Knicks only really need Afflalo to play well on defense.
SF - Iman Shumpert
January Stats: 15 GP, 15.5 PPG, 4.5 RPG, 3.7 APG, .486 FG%, .379 3PT FG %
Season Stats: 43 GP, 30.0 MPG, 13.2 PPG, 4.6 RPG, 3.9 APG, 0.9 SPG, .462 FG %, .353 3PT FG %Shumpert is better known for his defensive skills than his offensive skills, but he has played very well on both sides of the ball, especially in the past month.
PF - Carmelo Anthony
January Stats: 15 GP, 24.6 PPG, 9.7 RPG, 4.1 APG, 1.5 SPG, 1.5 BPG, .508 FG %, .348 3PT FG %
Season Stats: 46 GP, 36.3 MPG, 24.3 PPG, 8.0 RPG, 4.5 APG, 1.1 SPG, .600 FG %, .318 3PT FG %
Melo is up on rebounds and assists since last year, and currently in the top 5 in scoring and field goal percentage. He had another solid month, and looks to continue that as we end into the All-Star break.
C - Nerlens Noel [Rookie]
January Stats: 15 GP, 11.9, 10.6 RPG, 2.3 BPG, .561 FG%
Season Stats: 44 GP, 32.3 MPG, 13.0 PPG, 9.3 RPG, 1.3 BPG, .619 FG %With Anthony and Vucevic both slowed down by injuries, Noel's role increased in January, and he took it in stride, averaging a double-double on the month en route to his third straight rookie of the month award.
BENCH
SG/SF Michael Snaer [Rookie]
January Stats: 15 GP, 6.7 PPG, 2.0 RPG, 1.6 APG, .458 FG %, .464 3PT FG %
Season Stats: 46 GP, 21.2 MPG, 8.6 PPG, 2.7 RPG, 2.3 APG, .399 FG %, .351 3PT FG %
Snaer's role in the Knicks rotation continues to dwindle. Other than a 16-point outing in a losing effort to Atlanta, he mostly was quiet since Vazquez's return. With J.J. Redick and Nolan Smith starting to impress, Snaer could be reduced to a role player soon enough.
PG/SG J.J. Redick
January Stats: 15 GP, 10.6 PPG, 2.1 RPG, 2.8 APG, .435 FG %, .439 3PT FG %
Season Stats: 46 GP, 20.2 MPG, 8.7 PPG, 2.5 RPG, 2.6 APG, .446 FG %, .401 3PT FG%
Redick finally earned his Sixth man spot back from Snaer after another solid month. He is starting to look like the 3-point assassin the Knicks were looking for in him.
PF/C Nikola Vucevic
January Stats: 4 GP, 10.5 PPG, 5.7 RPG, .576 FG %, .500 3PT FG %
Season Stats: 35 GP, 19.6 MPG, 9.2 PPG, 5.5 RPG, .586 FG %Vucevic had a pretty quiet November, only playing in four games after suffering a knee injury, yet still saw slight increases in points per game. If he can continue to stay healthy, he should be an avid part of the Knicks' rotation.
PG/SG Nolan Smith
January Stats: 9.5 PPG, 2.1 RPG, 3.6 APG, .445 FG %, .400 3 PT FG %
Season Stats: 29 GP, 17.2 MPG, 8.8 PPG, 2.3 RPG, 3.8 APG, .447 FG %, .353 3 PT FG %
Nolan Smith has developed into a solid compliment to Vasquez at point guard. He has proven himself as a solid supplemental scorer and improved his ball-security over the past month.
SF/PF Marvin Williams
January Stats: 6.1 PPG, 3.2 RPG, .500 FG %, .500 3 PT FG %
Season Stats: 45 GP, 11.0 MPG, 4.3 PPG, 2.0 RPG, .456 FG %, .400 3 PT FG %
Williams has developed into a decent bench player for the Knicks. He wants to return to the team for a lesser contract. Depending how much he wants, the Knicks almost certainly should bring him back for at least one more season.
PG/SG Seth Curry
January/Season Stats: 12 GP, 8.9 MPG, 1.7 PPG, 1.3 RPG, .296 FG %
Obviously Seth has yet to reach the same level of player as his older brother Stephen or father Dell. Curry was brought in more as a project player, and isn't expected to make any big contribution.
SG/PG Josh Selby
Season Stats: 19 GP, 6.5 MPG, 2.9 PPG, .373 FG %
Selby only played one game on the month. He, again, is a player not expected to contribute for the team much.
RESERVES
SF Adam Morrison
Season Stats: 5 GP, 2.6 MPG, 2.2 PPGAfter playing just one game this month, Morrison's frustration level is continuing to grow. If the Knicks end up trading one of their main players, expect him to be packaged in that deal.
SG/SF Jerry Stackhouse
Season Stats: 9 GP, 2.2 MPG, 0.9 PPG, 0.3 RPG, 0.3 APG
Stackhouse seems to have embraced his role as the team mentor, but still has gotten moved up to the bench from time to time. He's leaning towards retirement after the season, but is hoping to finally win that elusive first NBA title with the Knicks
So I'm probably just going to simulate up to the All-Star break, and then I'll play 1-2 games each week until the playoffs.
