I am kicking myself for playing this game again. The wife was out and my kids were sleeping and I did not want to watch two football teams with a combined record of 1-11 play...so I turned on xBox thinking "ok...maybe a little pg won't be so scripted"

Started the game on a 10-0 run against the Clippers where I had two rebounds 4 assists, a dunk and two steals. It was glorious! I should have saved right there and then but I didn't. The next time down Paul did the 'pg pushing his way to the basket where if you try to steal it is a foul' bs. I had the block but the computer moved my hand at the last second. I want "oh no". I knew it was coming. We preceded to miss 5 shots....all with no defender within 10 f-Ing feet of the shooter while the clippers made 4 straight contested 3 pt shots. I figured I needed to take over so I missed (not blocked) a dunk, missed a layup and missed two open 16 foot shots on the baseline with nobody even near me...you know the kind where if it was the computer you don't bother going for a rb because they NEVER miss.

What is the mechanic that forces this? Is there a setting in Association that lets you turn off momentum? I HATE HATE HATE this f-Ing bs. It takes every last drop of fun out of the game. I can understand if they are open and hit shots...bad D in me....but to FORCE the game to balance the score? To FORCE one team to miss? It can't be a matter of the computer lowering our shot percentage and raising theirs. If that was the case you could still effect things with great D and your team will make some shots when wise open. Hell, anything can happen in a game because it is chance....but it happens EVERY FREAKING GAME on HoF!!! If they are going to FORCE the results then just make a movie or let us sim very game.

I know the EA nBA live looks rather pathetic but any competition is better than none. They either need to fix the scripting or allow us to turn off the momentum override.

    Sincerely,

    Mr. Fed up

I took one after the third 3pt make and another after they took the lead. This all within 4 minutes into the game. I understand there is momentum in any game...football...basketball...but really? Fine...let them start hitting shots. That happens! Just don't FORCE me to miss dunks or shot that have a 90% chance of going in. Again...I can understand a shot getting harder...but to make it straight out impossible to make?

I know that you don't want to hear this but Mike Wang, a senior member of the 2K dev team stated that there is no momentum script or override.

This does not mean I don't think there is something going on within whatever code there is within MyCareer (like you I often can call results beforehand) but we should really respect the devs when they state very plainly that something is not in the code.

One thing that I believe is Fubar in this year's game is the ingame chemistry. If you look at your players during a game you will see chemistry = 8. In association mode this bug has been noted and it was figured out that 8 = 80 but if there are calculations being made in regards to shot completion etc and if the code is using the 8 in its calculations, there could be a real problem here.

There are other things that we all can come up with together - but the momentum code is something that we should let go of so hopefully the 2k people that do read this thread will see our concerns and not automatically dismiss them out of hand due to us using the wrong words to try to communicate what we mean.

            You are absolutely correct.

            HOWEVER!

There is a lot of other hidden crap that's there to make you miss.

I noticed something recently, that the CPU needs much, much less space to hit shots compared to your teammates. Basically, they have the equivalent of Shot Creator 3 and Deadeye 3 built in, especially on HoF. In addition to that, even with 80 attribute points in the given shot criteria, unless you're going for an uncontested layup/dunk, your chance of missing is extremely high, especially when your team has a healthy lead.

I've been having success reducing this bull**** via lowering CPU stats using sliders. The most important ones to lower are Offensive Awareness (I think this increases your defense pressure) and Jump shot contest strength (reduce both gather and release for the CPU, increase both for user), and consistency.

You are correct but I think the reason is that on HoF settings attribute points are added to the ai players and not the human player. So when Jodie Meeks is playing against you, his 3 point shooting attributes are all boosted by 20 or so points. (I don't remember exact numbers off the top of my head) Yet, when Ray Allen, err, Jodie Meeks is on your team, he acts like the 65 3-point shooter he is going against the defensive player of the year.

I hear you. I spent 3 months last year perfecting a MyCareer roster for use in NBA2k13 ... and once it was done, I had a blast.

This year, Leftos didn't do a basic roster editor, so I can't jump in easy. And to be honest, I'm not sure I want to redo everything again this year - so I'm in a wait and see what 2k does once the season begins mode.

Last year, there was a floor (or minimum) of 25 for consistency... is that still the case this year?

I made a 6'11'' PF that got drafted by the Wizards and I must say I'm having fun playing a big man. So far (about 20 games in) I'm averaging 16/12/2. There are still some instances of the CPU getting crazy rebounds or my guy getting pulled out of position but for the most part I find myself getting rebounds when I'm in position to grab them.

My biggest gripe is just the off-ball contact around the paint. It's much improved from the previous 2 games, but the CPU can still make you post up when you are near the paint, and there are still a lot of instances of getting stuck in animations or me getting bodied up by guys much smaller than I am(I had Kyle Korver boxing me out perfectly last game). Also, sometimes blocking animations are too slow.

No momentum? Well, that I am sure is the case but as you all said there is certainly something fining on behind the scenes. I just don't remember what 2k 12 and 13 were like exactly. I know the other team would go on runs but I don't remember the chance of me making a **** being so bad. To me, the effect this mysterious code has on my shooting when a run is triggered is monumental. Just sick of having 90 med/3pt shot and making 40%. I find as soon as I see the 'effect' happening I stop taking outside shots and go to the post. I mean you KNOW the next few 'normal' shots won't go in.

Anyways, sorry for the rants. I really do love 90%
of the game. It's just that the 10% is murder on the 'fun' factor.

Question: do people have issues like in My Player in Association?

Yes. Much of what you see in MyCareer (ie trades and free agents) also occurs in Association. I decided not to play Association this year because of everything going on in it.

There is a poster named Melbournelad that has made exhaustive lists of Association issues. Many of them will be familiar to you - but his posts are good reads. I suggest looking them up for a little bit of perspective.

Btw: I really enjoy MyCareer as well ( My GM just traded DWade for Blake Griffen!) and I really do understand where your frustration is coming from.

I only get the PC version of 2k so my hope is that 2k15 on the PC will be next gen and that the MyCareer (or whatever new mode that is in ng) will be improved next year. If not, I most likely will not get 2k16 and I will just wait until the Sonics come back to Seattle for my next basketball game purchase.

Re: NBA 2K14 Official MyCAREER Thread

So far, I haven't encountered the ridiculous momentum driven runs that we saw in 2K13. The only thing I see a lot of now are the "shot clock cheese" shots. A LOT of last second contested shots go in for both the CPU and my teammates. You could allay it in previous 2K games by reducing the "Clutch" sliders but since 2K hid them from us there's no way to get rid of it.

And 2K on PC is the way to go. This is my third year playing it on PC, and even with how 2K treats PC like the redheaded stepchild, the mods are amazing. That and being able to alter things like sliders in MyCareer, I can cap my minutes at a certain level so my coach isn't playing me 43 MPG in my rookie season, etc. It really makes it a lot more enjoyable.

Not that I'm aware of, I've had that predicament. Although that should be an included feature, since people do change their weight in real life.

To me, the only thing that I would check is, is 215 and 240 in the same "body size" in the game? if they are, then I'd leave it.

You got hit by a bug in the character creation page. 215 is the default weight for a SF. You probably set your weight to 240 and paged over to set your playstyle. Any change in the play style results in the player weight going back to default. Their is no way to change this once you start your career.

                              P.S.
You can use this bug to generate a MP with a "Skinny" body type. For an SF set the weight to 190 or so, page over and change his playstyle and the player weight will reset to 215, but you will keep the "skinny" body build.

Sweet! Didn't know this aspect. Does it do it with all the body sizes? Like if I make him buff, then will his weight go back down?
I feel like we should have more control over how their body looks, similar to WWE/WWF games.
