This is great. This is what's its all about. Everybody helping everybody

This game just came out and your not going to be a beast in only a couple of days of release.

I love how the game forces u to strategically play and make adjustments.

Great posts in this thread everyone.

Using shading is more important this year than last year, especially when guarding the play-makers.

I have also found that my guy needs a little more space between him and the ball handler than last year in order to be able to react as I did last year. I'm not suggesting that you sag completely off everyone but rather adjust what you consider "normal" spacing between you and the ball handler.

I just noticed every team's tendencies are set to a default 50 across the board.

This can't be helping either, surely?

Do of these tips work on myplayer HOF/SIM? I highly doubt it.

I always try to shade to their strong side (make a right handed player dribble left) and be ready to icon switch to the C/PF when they get in the paint.

I always switch to the big man that DIDN'T rotate to the penetration in order to "help the helper".

Matchups matter alot more this year, past years I could guard anyone with anyone, now i need tough perimeter guys like brewer and Shumpert to nag the elite ballhandlers/ drivers. Loving it so far, feels like roles are more important, and you have to make sacrifices to compete.

my frustration - Seems like CPU is alot more alert to loose balls than the user team is, whether its a ball that gets poked away in traffic, a long rebound, CPU player seems to move to the ball so much faster, sometimes unrealistically. Dont want to start the slider game since im having so much fun, but its been nagging me slightly.

Re: Just some quick defensive suggestions

I love the shading this year...alot more realistic. Always shade them to the outside or weak hand. Shading towards your help will cause your defense to break down.

How do you guys go about defending the baseline? Do you force baseline, middle, or play straight up? I seem to struggle because I use the 2k camera, so the angles are more difficult to react to compared to at the top of the key.

So what is the verdict in staying in front of your man? Looks like I see most people saying use the Triggers only, while some just say use the left stick. I feel like if I don't use the LT then my guy is no position (defensive stance) to guard the ball.

Also what about help defense this year? Do you guys hold LT at all? When I am trying to bring help over I like to just use the RS and put my hands up. When I manually denying a star the ball then I like to use the RS as well. I don't like to use LT for help defense.

Here are a few tips to help you with on ball defense.

                        1. Use LT only to make small adjustments and to make sure you don't overrun the ball handler when guarding or closing out.

                        2. Learn to use LT + RT to help you keep up with the quicker players like Derrick Rose. (you don't hold RT very long, only as a sort of speed burst to keep from getting beat)

                        3. If you are holding LT to make small adjustments or body up a guy in triple threat, make sure you let go of LT as the ball handler drives by you to make the stop.

                        4. Instead of moving left or right to cut off a ball handler try moving backwards first to maintain position and then beat him to the spot. (you want to make sure you are positioned between the man and the basket at all times to prevent further penetration)

                        5. Shade ball handlers to the help side of the floor or into congested areas with help defenders but still be ready to react to penetration. (like real basketball try your best to prevent ball handlers from getting into the middle of the floor or driving the lane lines)

                        6. Make sure you go into your defensive settings and set double teams to "on drive" for guys who are getting into the paint on you. (just know 2K's rotations are jacked so if you aren't careful, good passers will pick you apart)

LD2k mentioned before release that you can attempt to take a charge on a ballhandler on a drive (like in 2k12) and even draw a foul by flopping. I haven't had a chance to try this. Anyone have any luck with this yet?

I play on 2kcam every year, switched to drive cam and zoomed all the way out and it worked wonders! Still getting beat, but that's because I'm still getting used to defense adjustments. You can really see the all the angles on this cam...

i agree, it is a pain hope they patch this...

My problem comes playing PTG... while playing againts the warrior i put Lebron on Curry and he is just a beast... his quickness and speed are better than lebron so i cant stay on him... if i give him too much space he shoots... i cant never recover in time.. also i would be fine with that but he seems to make tough contested layups against 2 PEOPLE.... i am guessing PTG is on a lower difficulty then?

Paint defense and rotations are a mess! Sliders not helping at all neither is double team on drive. The ai big will just stop moving and or move away from the paint for no reason. I got cheesed by a pistons user only scoring with Josh Smith.
