Man, this game is not perfect but it is the most balance 2k online. 12 and 13 were complete jokes online.

i'm telling you man once you start playing on ball defense 2k hates you lol. Was playing this guy the other day, i have Marc Gasol and Bogut on My Team and he had some good bigs. Dude was clearly letting the CPU defend me in the post, so i had to change my whole game because they kept missing every single contact shot

He also had Kyrie and i struggled to stay in front of him with John Lucas lol. Still won because he liked to double and i had alot of shooters but playing on ball defense is just tough. Seems like my defense breaks down VERY easy when im defending the ball handler, which is 99.9% of the time.

Sundown, a couple of videos of you in action would be worth more than a 1000 words, if you dont have a capture device or a cellphone, go and borrow one ... better yet, ask the gametag of a couple of some of this OSers and play against them with the sole purpose to receive feedback, a mic would be ideal as they would give you feedback instantly.

While I tend to be cautious about what the masses think about anything, I tend to care more about what my inner circle thinks of things. I have some OSers within my bball videogame inner circle and they almost unanimeoudly think 2k14 is a very preceiveable improvement (on the D side) over 2k13 and prior iterations.

Maybe what you are missing is to try and go with the mentality of a worthy custom roster editor: forget your prior knowledge and experience and start from scratch. Test, test and test and be open minded enough to recognize that offline and online are sadly two pharalel worlds instead of an extendsion of one another.

Anyways, IMHO, too early to give up on the game, specialy if for its online.

I was just about to thank folks for the tips on feathering. That could be something I'm being hamfisted when I'm frustrated. It also occured to me that I don't necessarily have to react to the endless isos and see where that gets me. I've also acknowledged that some of the pick and roll settings could help with the Help-D.

The only person I've really banged heads with was 24th because he seemed to repeat "defensive settings" ad nauseum without acknowledging that I had applied many of his settings without seeing any results, and didn't feel like I should have to have defensive assists at 100% just to be vaguely competitive.

Not saying his advice isn't good or helpful, but it wasn't helping me as gospel. I could of course be a bit more diligent about setting these, but honestly I wasn't seeing a large difference so it had to be something else entirely-- the game, me, or both.

Anyway, thanks for those of you who actually are contributing other ideas especially in regards to timing and control. It's something to try and think about.

Sundown, honestly...it sounds like you just can't control your players with the stick very well...with my play style, I set player defensive settings to play tight on and off ball on any a rated or higher perimeter player and go over screens on best 3pt shooter...profile settings that make biggest difference is help d which I set VERY low...and controller options I set to intense d and spider to 0 as default and above seems to get u out of position when switching players...now I like to play center on d a lot to make my own help d plus help rebound...I switch if someone likes to pick and pop constantly...for the first time since 2k11 I feel having great basketball iq can actually help this year instead of great button smashing iq,lol...my only gripe this year are steals online, which I've pretty much remedied,just annoying, and shot consistancy...defense reminds me a lot of 11...plus how satisfying are the blocks this year...I can hear stacy king saying, WELCOME TO THE BLOCK PARTY!!!

I'm definitely rusty with the online lag.

You set help D to low? Seeing as how my interior help D seems weak, I'd think you'd have to set this higher. No?

I believe so, after all, there is cheese and "unsim" ... I have hardly heard of cheese moves (exploits, unintended behavior that has no counter, = broken) this year if any ... an "unsim" quarter of just driving or pounding the paint may suffice, even less.

Also, why just someone has to cheese/unsim you, why not the other way around so you can take notes of what they do on that situation ? thats part of being open minded.

Then again, for someone who previously criticized sarcasm, I kind of sensed one coming from you when I gave an honest opinion. Anyways, to each his own I guess, specially since I dont have nor would I have the current gen game, that is what I get for trying to help. Sincere good luck.

I believe so, after all, there is cheese and "unsim" ... I have hardly heard of cheese moves (exploits, unintended behavior that has no counter, = broken) this year if any ... an "unsim" quarter of just driving or pounding the paint may suffice, even less.

It depends...I hate when my defenders leave player for wide open 3rs...I play center a lot to box out and get my own rebounds so I need less help d so they stayed glued on shooter...I'm good enough defender in paint that I usually don't need help

Looks like I'm going to have to Lab a bunch and suck up the losses. It was just dissapointing not having the "no cheese! defense yay!" experiences others had in the other thread. I'm assuming no settings were changed since then. Maybe I was just exceptionally lucky to encounter the new cheesers of 2K14. Or maybe I'm just terrible.

Though this was great post, wanted to up this for people interested in learning the game:

I thought so too. I don't think myself especially bad at controlling after playing for years, but I may not have acclimated to the lag enough. I'll definitely try to keep in mind that less may be more online.
