On defense, I like to stick to the mindset of "Less is More". Don't sprint too often, don't be hammering the steal/block buttons, don't over-pursue the ball-handler. Just try to stick to small, accurate movements, and if you're feeling lucky you can try to anticipate the offense's next move; steal passes, swipe the ball away from the ball-handler if he's getting lazy, hold LT + RT and cut off the open lane to the basket, etc.
Just try to keep it simple, and only do the above moves if the opportunity presents itself. And most importantly, ALWAYS hold the R-stick in the direction of the ball-handler when he goes to shoot.Comment

NEW UPDATE! (PC Slider Set)
I just posted a minor update to the PC sliders. There should now be fewer points in the paint, more fouls, and slightly lower FG% for both the USER and CPU.
Enjoy!Comment

Re: NBA 2k13 "The Eccentric Edition" - All-Star Slider Set
Just curious about the tendecies that you're running with. If you increase tendencies too much do you find that the CPU is just jacking
Shots all game? I mean if you lower all tendecies would you find that teams are putting up less shots all together but still playing the style you want?
I had a good set of sliders but I felt like after one of the patches that they werent playing how they should, all they did is shoot from the pain and aggressively attack the pain while giving up open shots in the process, it drove me crazy. I ended up trying to edit some sliders to get some better results but I'm still struggling to find a set that I am happy with.....will be playing some
Games with your's when I get some days off work and see how they go...
Thanks for posting these sliders manComment

Basically, how the Tendencies work (in my experience) is that they not only dictate which players and which spots on the floor get utilized more often, but they also control how willing the CPU is to throw up bad shots.
For example, with the mid-range tendencies set to 100, the CPU would pull up for mid-range jumpers (with pretty much any player) early into the shot clock unless it was almost 100% certain that the defender could block/alter the shot. With the mid-range tendency at or around 40, the CPU will still pull up for mid-range jumpers, but it will only do so if it has a good look at the basket and/or a player with a high tendency to take mid-range, pull-up jumpers.
The higher the tendencies are, the less picky the CPU will be about the shots they take. The lower the tendencies are, the more the CPU will work the ball around and try to setup a good look at the basket, as well as the more space it will take to give a shooter before he puts up a shot.
So, in essence, high tendencies lead to more shot attempts, lower field goal percentages, a more spastic/less smooth offense by the CPU, and an overall terrible gaming experience. If you saw my previous tendencies, you would notice that I basically maintained the same ratios between each shot type, but I just universally lowered all values so that the CPU would put up fewer shots and would run a more realistic offense.
Hopefully this clears things up for you (and I'm sorry for being long-winded, I just can't help it)Comment

Re: NBA 2k13 "The Eccentric Edition" - All-Star Slider Set
Hi Eccentric Meat, i agree with you for a lot of sliders values, me too use in my gameplay some values. I think your sliders are the best for pc on OS. I'm curious about 2 sliders values: hands, and backdoor cut tendence. For hands, i think is better put values <40 for user and <35 for cpu; why you use these high values? Tell me your experience. For backdoor tendencies, you set 5. On nba2k12 i was great results with 95, the movements without ball are better. On nba2k13 i don't see same results with 95. With this low value (5), have you better experience? ciao! :-)Comment

For the Backdoor Cuts tendency, I set it to 5 because the CPU players seem overly aware and capable of making backdoor cuts, while your AI teammates seem completely incapable of effectively defending them. By lowering the value to 5, the CPU goes for fewer backdoor cuts (while still making you pay if you leave an open lane for a slasher), the horrible AI of your teammates isn't constantly exposed, and the CPU has a more diverse attack on offense.
I know 5 seems like a very low value, but you will still see PLENTY of CPU baskets being scored on you by backdoor cuts.Comment

Re: NBA 2k13 "The Eccentric Edition" - All-Star Slider Set
NEW UPDATE! (Both Slider Sets)
Both of my slider sets have received a minor, fine-tuning update. There are no drastic changes, but rather a few minor tweaks to fix a few of the small problems I have been seeing.
Any feedback is encouraged! Oh, and it won't hurt my feelings if you "Like" the OP and rate my sliders 5 stars if you have been enjoying them
EDIT: Fixed a few typos on the PC sliders (Vertical, On-Ball Defense, Association Quickness and Speed)
To stop guys like Wall from getting in to the paint, just try not to overreact to any of their moves, and don't over-pursue in any direction. If you feel like Wall is about to drive on you, try to back off a little bit while still staying between him and the basket. You can also try holding LT+RT, and then the L-stick and R-stick towards Wall. This should create contact almost 100% of the time (if timed/aimed correctly) and will stop his progress towards the paint.Last edited by EccentricMeat; 02-06-2013, 06:16 PM.Comment

Re: NBA 2k13 "The Eccentric Edition" - All-Star Slider Set
Love the sliders, but one question. Does anyone else see the CPU plays mostly in the post and usually tends to leave shooters from outside? Using this for a league and it seems to be this way for every team we play. If so what slider do you need to change to adjust this...contested shots?Comment

Re: NBA 2k13 "The Eccentric Edition" - All-Star Slider Set
Are you on PC? If so, I use the URB v5 roster (linked at the top of the PC slider set). I'm getting plenty of 3PT attempts, so my guess would be that your roster is too blame. If you want to stick with your current roster, try increasing the CPU's Take 3PT Shots tendency to 67 and see if that helps.

Try lowering "Look for Post Players" to 90, that should make the teams use the post less often.
Ah alright. I'm using the True2theGame rosters (it's a little outdated, but it's the only non-overhaul roster I've found on Xbox). The SIMM rosters overhaul most of the ratings/tendencies, right? My sliders won't really work with any roster that does that, unfortunately.
If the only problem you're seeing is the lack of 3's from the CPU, just increase the 3PT Shot tendency to 63. If you're still not getting the results you want, go up to 65. Hopefully that will solve your problem.Comment

Re: NBA 2k13 "The Eccentric Edition" - All-Star Slider Set
Eccentric,
I like your sliders a lot. I've been using them for this Association mode that I'm currently playing with the Sac Kings. However, the turnover rate is ridiculous at times. I just got finished with a game against the Hawks and had 28 turnovers to their 8. WAY too frequently:
A) I try to pass the ball down low to my post men and it gets deflected and the ball is turned over
B) I try and do a post move with DeMarcus Cousins, Thomas Robinson, Jason Thompson and the ball gets poked away by the defending post player as I face up and they poke it out or poke it and it bounces off my players leg
C) I am in the post with the guys mentioned above and the point guard helps out faster than I can even react and pokes it out and I lose the ball
D) The EASIEST passes in the world get thrown away. I could pass the ball 10 feet on an inbound or just a nice easy transition pass. The computer deflects them somehow or my guys just throw it out of bounds. I'm not talking about passes that would be iffy in real life. I'm talking passes that in real life ALWAYS get made
What do you suggest?Comment
