re: MyTeam Mobile Discussion
I admit I've bought a few of the epic packs trying to get a Jordan legendary (I did get Magic and he's the only one I've got) but in the end I figure its my time and money so its not hurting anyone.Comment

re: MyTeam Mobile Discussion
Spending money on this game isn't a crime, and it's only a bad decision if you value your time more than the cost of the card.
For example, if it takes you :30 seconds to complete a game and you get 2 cards and you need approximately 1,000 cards to get an epic. You would assume that it would require,
Cards needed divided by the cards per win.
1000/2 = 500
500 Games Played
Games required multiplied by time per game.
500*30=15,000 seconds
Seconds into minutes/hours
15,000seconds/60 = 250 minutes/60 = 4:16 hours
You would need to play about 4 hours and 15 minutes straight to acquire the necessary picks for a shot at an epic.
An epic/legendary pack costs about $20.
Cost of pack divided by time required equals value of your time.
20/4.16= $4.80/hour
If you have an opportunity to make money rather than play the game, for example mow a neighbors yard. Pick up a shift, or anything for that matter.
As long as it pays more than $4.80 an hour, you are better off buying a pack.
But this only applies to people who spend their hours after work playing only this game, if you are doing this to pass time while watching TV or between tasks at work, the math wouldn't be the same for you.
Spend money if you want, it's all about how much you value your time. I value my time at more than $4.80 an hour, but I don't play the game as a stand alone means of entertainment. I do it to pass the time.
The fun parts of the game for me were never the grinding quick games, it was the reward at the end of flipping the cards. Using a program to be awarded credits would terribly unbalance the game for the rest of us who play it. Any program that says it can do it online is likely a form of spyware/adware and do not download anything without knowing full well what it is you are installing on your computer.Comment

And the reason why I'm not going to pay for the in-app purchases? It's because of the ridiculously high prices. Seriously, $20 bucks for an Epic pack? And the Team pack and Player packs are priced too high and have a pretty good chance at being a Common. I'm all for supporting the devs, but not at those prices. A single $20 Epic pack is the same amount of money needed to buy every game on my Wish List on Google Play. It's just not balanced.Comment

I don't mind paying. I've spent way too much on this for no good reason. I used a little cash today from selling a couple of movie related items and bought an epic pack. Why? I don't know really. Guess I wanted to take a shot at getting Jordan again (Yeah, I'm OCD with that). I ended up getting Mike Conley and the other Magic Johnson Legendary Card. So now I have both the 1987 Magic and the 1991 Magic.Comment

I've been through the same calculations, but the thing is...at that point, this is no longer a game. When you have to start doing calculations based on how much time you're spending on a "game" and whether it's worth it to spend money on it--I'm sorry, that is not a characteristic of a game. A game is supposed to look at cost versus quality, not cost versus time. You don't count hours while playing a game...you lose track of your hours when playing a game.

This is an add-on to the actual console based game, they don't get money from subscriptions or a 1 time purchase of the game.
It is built on micro transactions, that is how they recoup their costs for it's development.
On the subject of it being a game, I would bet that none of us play quick games because we like it. We want better cards. We don't wake up at 3am to re-energize because it's fun. It is a system designed to appeal to the OCD, who want the best, who find enjoyment in collecting and trying to win with a hand.
To argue that the grinding quick games itself is the fun part is insane. Getting good cards is why we are here, if people want to spend money so be it. I would argue that many of the people spending a little bit of money are having more fun than those of us who aren't.Comment

It's sort of like buying NBA 2K14, and buying VC to make your MyPlayer's rating better. But you don't actually play MyCareer...you just like looking at your player and seeing has a 99 Overall.
Also, I completely agree with you about grinding quick games isn't fun. The only fun part of the games is flipping those draft cards over. But having said that, it's still game-like in its structure. It's at least a bit more interactive than opening your wallet. I guess it just shows the flaws in this "game". The only part of this app which is actually game-like is not actually fun. On top of that, we've been given Epic Packs to take a short-cut and not even play the game. I just don't think it's a sustainable model for people who don't want to pay.Comment

re: MyTeam Mobile Discussion
As for seasons, the actual winning/losing part of seasons is so detached from us, as players, it's hard to even get any real satisfaction one way or the other from a win or loss. The players don't make any decisions during the games to alter the outcome, and we don't even REALLY know what goes into a win or loss, so even the decisions we make in building our teams, I can't even derive a whole bunch of satisfaction from, since we're all kinda just guessing anyway. If we build a good enough team, we win.. and sometimes we lose anyway, even with higher stats, and nobody really even has any idea why.
Maybe this fabled new mode that's supposed to come out will allow us to play other people in real time, and we'll actually have to make decisions to win. Then, there'll be some satisfaction in the win.
For now, at least for me, it's just a game that, for some reason, is strangely addicting, even though it's kinda clear it's a huge grind, all for the satisfaction of winning a card, that allows for more grinding. It's only appealing at all because I have such a connection with basketball.
If this were the exact same game, but instead of Michael Jordan on the card, it was some wizard or something like that, I'd have never played this game at all.
EDIT- What would be nice is.. at least if we could see what happened in a season game, when we check the stats. Like, instead of just showing the overall numbers, give us a run-down of what interactions happened. That we, we can at least see why a win or loss happened.Last edited by TizOnly1; 01-17-2014, 12:24 PM.Comment
