Debating the 360 purchase

As it comes time for the 360, I'm in deep thought of whether to get Live or 2K6. I loved Live last year and didn't like 2K5 at all. I didn't buy a basketball game this year because I wanted to wait for the 360 launch.

From what I know, 2K has been better on the X-Box. With neither game allowing multiple-controlled teams in season mode, my no brainer of getting Live is gone.

I'm curious of what everyone else's mindset is in getting Live or 2K6 and why?

I purchased both for the 360.

I only had Live for current Gen because I loved the gameplay better overall. But ultimately you should try renting first for both games. I basically just finfds ways to make my sports games better by tweaking so I don't really go off of reviews or other responses too much.

I agree with this. Plus if you have Xbox Live and can download the free Live 360 demo I'd advise you to give that a go. I might not be purchasing either basketball game this time around, myself.

I wanted to ask this question in this forum and also 2k's forum but, honestly you are not going to get a fair shake. The majority imo of live people in this forum are going to tell you to get live just as if you went in the 2k forum and asked if you should get 2k6. Go try them both, gather all the knowledge from both forums , look at the vids, thats what I have been doing, and I came to one conclusion, I bought them both! And like the other guy said, I am going to leave live closed, and try out the demo first. Good luck man!!!

I bought 2K6 and Live. 2K6 by far played the better sim game. Playing some Live at the store I examined the graphics are amazing except for some glitches like the arms are long as heck making them look gorilla like. The camera angles blow. The camera is always a couple steps behind. I don't know why they changed it around? And a lot of cool features are missing also. I haven't opened Live yet and will probably exchange it for Call of Duty 2.

Thanks, I figured I'd put this on the Live board just because I wanted to see if I could find pro 2K6 comments on the Live board. I preferred Live last year, and I'm looking for reasons to take 2K6 over Live. Unfortunately, I don't have an ethernet and broadband connection for 360, just regular phone line.

Purchase 360? Yes. Purchase it jsut for either of the two NBA games? Probably not. Last year, 2k5 was a great game and blew Live away, this year in current gen Live 06 is good, but 2k6 is utterly unplayable. The next generation 360 stuff, well Live has no dynasty, which is an automatic no purchase for me, and since 2k6 is supposedly identical to it's current gen game...

Just my two cents, but it is a truly unbiased opinion, I just enjoy good sports games. Now if Microsoft would get off their posterior and make MVP backwards compatible...*shakes fist*

I bought LIVE for the 360 as it does look to finally be on the right track from videos. Time will tell the tale next week.

No, I've got it right in my opinion. Like I said, I don't favor one series over the other, but last year I enjoyed and played the ever living daylights outta 2k5 (after the downloaded patch), this year 2k6 is unbearably dull and unplayable for me, while Live 06 is a lot of fun and after slider tweaks a very real game of basketball, it's just too bad they couldn't deliver the goods on the 360 apparently.

Wow, that's incredibly off-base, IMHO.

To the original poster, your best (and safe) bet would be to pick up 2k6 if you want a sim-experience. It's apprently better than the current version, with *minor* glitches cleaned up, and the gameplay tightened.

Live looks to have made many omissions this year, but as it was mentioned already, there will be a playable demo for Live in the XBox 360 marketplace.

Ultimately the choice is yours, as Live is not the same game it used to be. They've taken a few steps forward while taking a few back as well.

2k6 was too hard for me on xbox, I am going to go with Live for the 360. I need a little "basic" when it comes to basketball.

This year I prefered LIVE06 for the XBOX and I'm sticking with it for the 360. Except I hate that this game has gone to the right analog stick for shooting freethrows also.

i preferred live also, and will probably go with it. i do think ill check out the demo first if i can pick up a 360 on launch.

IMO, Live isn't worth the 60 bones, neither is 2K6. It seems that one game has things that the other doesn't have. For example, Live has a next-gen "feel" to it, while 2K's doesn't, but then again, 2K has all the features of it's current-gen counterpart and Live falls short there. It's kinda give-and-take, given that both games have their flaws in places.

Honestly, I woudn't recommend buying any basketball game on 360 this year, but if you're dying for a basketball game, make your own decision of what you want more in yours. If you want something pretty, it's Live, but if you want something substantial that'll last you a much longer time and isn't that pretty, take 2K6. It's as simple as that.
