Well after 1 game on 8min quarters...the camera is my biggest grip (aside from not knowing what I was doing) I cant seem to get a close enough view without it "jerking" around a bit, it makes it hard for me to focus on the screen. I dont really wanna go get 2K7..cause its stale for me, but I cant see myself playing Live with jerky camera movements...makes my head hurt.

Re: Me and My boy rated both with 40 categories
glad to see the people find the post useful....after a couple days of playing the game and also reading some of the things people are saying about 2k7..im pretty happy with my purchase. Its pretty cut and dry for me...live is the kind of game that forces you to focus more on what you are doing...in part because of the way the players have body weight...getting somebody to lean or getting a mismatch on a switch.2k7 doesnt really do any of that so it focuses on animations to bring out those things. 2K7 is smooth as butter but, there is something about that game that makes me feel like im playin a polished current gen game. I understand where people are coming from when they say 2k7 looks better because of the transition from animation to animation...but thats about it...it sems like the signature style covers up some problems. For alot of you who just bash the **** out Live..you love the animations approach to basketball..the realistic jumpers and things of that nature. The camera problem in live is pretty much an issue for people who have been looking at 2k for the last year or 2(I bought nba 2k6 last year) after a few games you dont even notice it.
here are some things that I find annoying as hell for both
NBA LIVE:
the substitution problems need work...i play 8 minute quarters and guys dont really get tired till the end of the second quarter. I also noticed that at the end of the game in critical situations a guy like lebron will get put on the bench. Sliders dont really help cuase i have it at max for effects
the low post moves work well but....the double teams come hard and fast and that makes for a challenge but...its just to harsh. I have the double team slider at like 25 and its still rough in there.
perimeter block shots have been toned down 10x this year but you still get the occasional blocks by shooting guards. that just doesnt happen in basketball that much.
its been talked about before but, the center bringing the ball up the court sometimes when the pg gets te smallest amount of pressure. This might the one thing I hate the most. none of that in 2k..the point guard always makes sure he is in control.
other than those issues the game is good and I have sliders set to make the game fun and more smooth than the default setting. On the flip side 2K plays nice without touching anything.
NBA 2k7
the commentary..there is absolutely no substance to kenny smith at all. in live steve kerr and Marv get into actual conversations. They describe players and they might start laughing at a bad pass or question your shot selection and things like that.
The isomotion things just isnt responsive enough...the animations feel pre determined.
The player models are just funny lookin' their bodies like I said look like a polished current gen xbox game(port)(all of us cant afford HD) the heads are way to damn big and some of those people look scary.
The jersey animations are too extreme.
and last but not least...the fastbreak problem..I see everybody else is having problems with that. I remember when Live had this problem now its 2k. When have you seen a real game where a guy is on the break and gets caught around 20 feet from the basket and just pulls up for jumper with a hand in his face. naw buddy.
Overall the game is easy to learn in terms of what works and what doesnt. I cant say that for live. The signiture style is sexy and its what make the game look the way it does. 2k7 may be the better game in terms of feeling like your watching a real game but I get bored with it fast. i can play live for hours cause everygame is diffrent in terms of how players react. 2k7 feels the same all the time.
just some more things to chew on...I have also decided that im going to buy 2k7 next friday so im gonna have both anyway. I NEED 2K7 FOR THE ONLINE PART!!!..WOW...what a mismatch for Live in that area. It feels like a real community. EA dropped the ball on the part. this is 2006...they cant mess up online especially on a system which is built around online communication and commerce.maaaaannnnn....what the hell did you say??Comment

Great comparison...but I am sorry I know it is my opinion and all...I still don't see how people are playing 2k7 on superstar and saying that the animations make the game.Comment

I am saying 2k7 is good, but I see some people not giving credit wher it is due I guess. When I come over here, some people say things that suggest they think that 2k7 is all about animations and that is what makes the game.Comment

Re: Me and My boy rated both with 40 categories
The animations cover up some of the things that people would not normally accept if they were not that great. For instance the sliding and player faces if not for the animations you can't tell me more guy's wouldn't complain about those current gen aspects being carried over to the XBOX 360. They complained and bitched about in Live for years and now people tend to act like it's no big deal because it's 2K7. But had it been EA's game that had players sliding all over the court it would have got more flack. There's simply no excuse for a game that has that much greatness in the animations to completely allow the players to look like crap and move like they are on grease or something. I don't think anyone here has said 2K7 is bad basketball game. But the fact is it's still using and outdated engine and you can tell by looking under the hood at the players, coaches, mascots and cheerleaders. Hell even the announcing crew is pretty much what you should hear on current gen not next gen.Last edited by Latrell24; 09-29-2006, 02:22 AM.Comment

Re: Me and My boy rated both with 40 categories
You might be correct but that has nothing to do with the actual game engine being ported over and then slapping pretty graphics on some of the ugliest things you'll see on a basketball court. I played in Boston in NBA 2K7 and then switched over to NBA Live and played in Boston and it was sickening watching the difference between the two arena builds and how they look. I loved NFL 2K5 and even to this day that game looks better than NBA 2K7. The game had mind blowing animations but it also looked good and the players moved much better.
My gripe is here we are in the 2nd year for Next Gen games and all you can do for me is slap animations over my Next Gen game and expect it to make the overall game better. I'm not even going to speak of this anymore but the game itself looks terrible the more I play it. They are calling it the best game ever but how can that be when you don't have players running or walking on the court. A great deal of the players look totally like garbage and the mascots look no better than what I saw in ASB before it folded. Best game ever in terms of animations that's I've seen but in terms of actual basketball no way in hell. Take your center in NBA 2K7 and give him the ball in the backcourt and you can pretty much run your offense through him because they handle the rock as smooth as butter.Comment

Re: Me and My boy rated both with 40 categories
in all honest, i would much rather have the sliding that is in 2k7 than play with the horrible dribbling and ball physics that is present in live 07. When you push left to right for the auto crossover on live the ball moves from left hadn to right hand in half a millisecond... it looks so horrible and fake.
when the ballhandler in live moves backward away from a defender the guy looks like a crab. What is the point of still shots of the games graphics if the players and animations move like crap? Don't even get me started about the rainbow jump shots.
HOwever, i do agree on allstar weekend, that ish is fun, me and my friends were on it for a minute, and unfortunately we were playing all star weekend more than actual games.
And whoever said that 2k7's endgine is outdated or whatever, if you look past the footplanting on 07, believe me, the engine in past lives is exactly the same.
when i was playing as kobe, all i did was run around in circles pressing the dunk button everytime, it was too easy. Then again, i don't know what difficulty i was playing on, so if anyone can clarify if its harder to dunk with higher difficulty i apologize.
Another feature i do like about live 07 is you can set up a game and when it loads you can still shoot around in hte gym and dunk and stuff, pretty cool!
If live can fix its gameplay, and drastically fix its animations, it will give 2k a run for its money.
If 2k can fix the graphics and get rid of the jaggies, put in some better gimmicks and have allstar weekend etc etc well, i can only imagine dunk contest with 2k animationsComment

Next-gen isn't all about graphics. Because if it was like some of the people here are saying, then Madden 07 would be loved but it isn't. When it comes down to it, next-gen is about changing how games play.
Like Peter Molyneux said about Fable 2 not having cutscenes "Cutscenes are last-generation."
2k7 doesn't have cutscenes. 2k7 has amazing A,I. , and 2k7 plays great and has graphics that look 10x better than the current-gen. People are going overboard when they say 2k7 for 360 looks like current-gen. Go play 2k7 for ps2 or Xbox and come back. There is a difference.
Also, no. Animations isn't what makess everyone love 2k7, stop speaking for everyone. Everyone over at the 2kboards will tell you that it is the gameplay that keeps you playing.
Live is probably a great game, just stop saying that people only play 2k for the animations. The animations are drawn into the gameplay, that is the big difference here, and when you add that to the great A.I. you have a good bball game.
Next-gen isn't all about graphics. So stop saying 2k7 isn't next-gen because of it's graphics.
People saying the engine is outdated...why fix what isn't broken?Comment

Re: Me and My boy rated both with 40 categories
lol 2k7 isn't next gen? 2k7 is a port? 2k7 is only animations? Hey, go ahead and believe this, just know that you are selling yourself short on not playing what many have said as the best sports game of the year, some even have said it is THE best basketball game ever made to date.
I just find it funny that 2k7 isn't next gen and is a port and gets mad props over a game that is supposedly next gen and created from the ground up
The lack of reviews on prominent game sites speaks volumes of the quality of live and the confidence that EA has on its product.Comment

Re: Me and My boy rated both with 40 categories
I'm not really going to get into the debate because I picked up both games and enjoy them both..
Live is a real good game when you play it right, and learn all the superstar moves.
What I do wanna say is that I don't think anybody playing 360 on an SD TV should ever review the graphics of any 360 game. The difference in graphics from an SD TV to a proper HD 1080p TV is Night and Day.
Everyone saying 2K7 looks like a port, or old Xbox game, must be playing on SDTV.. Because it will in fact look almost just like the Xbox version like this..
However, for a true comparison.. play both on HDTV's.. Play 2k7 Xbox w/ HD Cables on an HDTV, then play 2k7 360 on an HDTV with VGA cables... You'll be in for a shock.
Live unquestionably has the better graphics though.. and the "herky-jerky"ness of it was fixed for me by taking PlayMakers suggestion and upping the game speed, and messing with the camera.Comment

That's just it some of us have played it and we didn't buy into all the hype after playing it.
So, why are we selling oursleves short?
I think EA has confidence in the direction they are going with their product wouldn't that be the reason why they took a chance to build it from the ground up knowing that was a big risk for them.
At what point does it matter which game we play around here without people acting like we are waisting our money because it's not the same game they are playing. Even if we were waiting our money how does that effect your pockets.NCAA FOOTBALL 14 ALUMNI LEGENDS CPU vs CPU DYNASTY THREAD
