Re: Just when you thought they were on the right track...

rather than having a game's animations persuade me into thinking that I'm watching a televised NBA game, I prefer the control and perhaps less realistic animations of LIVE right now.

It is after all a GAME that I want to enjoy simulating the BBall experience as a FUN GAME on my TV. I'm sick of trying to recreate a Televised NBA game for the sake of good graphics or user control that is locked up in animations just so I can say that it looked like so and so in real life. If I want real life, I'll watch a real NBA game. Although authentic faces and arenas in a game do make it more fun (which Live has).

I loved the 2k series and bought them all and was planning on 2k8 but LIVE is giving me something different that most people who are trying to recreate a televised game experience on their game systems won't appreciate.

    to each his own.

nba 2k8 without a doubt. But Live is going in the right direction...I still think there are too many areas lacking polish for me to purchase both. Besides, most my time will be spent with nhl 08 this winter, so to find time for basketball will be tough enough

I had my pre-order of Live completely paid for, but changed it to 2k8 on the way home from work today. Was going to sit out NBA 2k this year but the demo really made it too hard to pass it up.

I love the Live demo and will probably still purchase it at some point, but the 2k really exposed gaping holes in Live's gameplay, as well as the fact that Live lacks the 'little things' that makes 2k special

dude rent the game. go to blockbuster or gamefly it. The live demo doesn't let you play with a 2nd person did that stop you from wanting to buy the game?

The best thing to do is just get both games.

Like the past two years, I will be buying 2K first, then get Live around a month later. Both games have their pros and cons, just get the game that fits YOU best, not anyone else.

i appreciate the points made about control being in the hands of the user and i have to say Live has 2k beat in this area. however, i like the gameplay of
2k over Live. the Live demo is a bit too arcadey for my tastes and i also have a nagging feeling about EA's quality control. invariably, the demos they release get you excited about a game and when you buy it, it has major flaws that make it just about unplayable. i remember in 07 how much time playmaker spent tweaking rosters, adjusting settings, and even modifying video calibration just to get Live to play. even with all his hard work, it was terrible, IMO. based on past experience i think Live will be that way this year, (not that it will be unplayable like 06 and 07 but that there will be some hidden flaws so major you won't be able to stand it). i hope not, but with the debacle that is Madden 08, i have low expectations for Live 08. having said that, i will rent it just for a change of pace.

So I was somewhat on the fence about it until I remembered Madden 08 on the 360, and I just can't give EA anymore of my money so it will be 2K8 for me....
i felt the same way til i tried the demo (love it) and watched the programers talk to the LIVE07 winners. and seeing their (programers) excitement on what they've done to better the game and to actually see those improvements in the demo, i'm gonna give the game a try. not only that, but the developers sat there and admitted to the poor product of 07 and wanted 08 to be a different story. they've succeeded in imo. unlike David Ortiz and those clowns at MADDEN who sat there bragging and boasting how much better 08 is, the the game turns out to be complete trash...

to me, it comes down to the 1 player experience with Franchise...from what I hear 2k8 has improved this aspect more..so its 2K8 for me...

I think the reason Live fans don't like NBA 2K, is because itz too much for them. Too real. Live fans want everything handed to them. Thats why when they try NBA 2K they are always turned off because they can't adjust and are afraid of real competition/difficulty. I tried the Live demo, and it was indeed pretty fun. It felt like the NBA honestly, but there still are some little rough edges that need fixing. Thing with 2K8 is it improves on the best basketball game ever (2K7) . 2K7 could have been near perfect, but there were a few issues keeping it from that level. I just don't see how any real fan of the NBA can look at both games, and not think 2K8 is the better looking/better playing game. Better luck next year EA..

So what if a person plays both games and has no allegiance to either company.

I've seen several post from quiet a few who state they will get both games.

How do you define those type of gamers?
