    NBA2K guy thinking about switching

I've been a 2K guy for as long as I can remember. This year picked up 2K and it just seems sort of stale to me. Superstars are unstoppable online and anyone who says this game is sim - to me - has no clue what they're talking about. The graphics and animations are insane but the lack of 2K camera has really got me thinking about trying LIVE.

I downloaded the LIVE demo but it's hard to tell if I like it based on the teams/amount of time you get to play it. It is very different than 2K - controller wise especially, but I think it may be a fun game.

I'm wondering if anyone on this board has switched from 2K to LIVE and if they have any advice. God forbid I bring this up in the 2K forum - I would be hung at the stake. I don't really get why people are so attached to one game or the other. I just want the one that gives me the most fun!!

By the way - most of my gaming is online.

    Why don't you rent it?
You have nothing to lose that way.

Right now the servers are messed up though, so you might want to wait a few days.

Have it on hold and plan on renting it after work.

I really want to like this game - I stay optimistic.

If you are on the fence, then rent it for sure.

Gamefly has saved me from buying a metric ton of bad games.

Can anyone post on what they like about this game that 2K doesn't bring to the table??

2K loyalist here - and I endorse Live 09. What do you want to know? I've only played on ONLINE game so far - it was a team club game (IT WAS A BLAST!)

If you play online a lot nba live is the way to go. In 2k, when i play online people pick either the powerhouse teams like Houston (b.s) or the star players like Kobe or Lebron. I'll say live because its slightly easier to play against people who do that.
              Mets/Giants/Knicks/Rangers/Manchester United/Notre Dame Football

Never let fear determine who you are. Never let where you came from determine where you are going.

I wish Houston was as Powerhouse in the real world as they are in the game...lol.

McGrady out about half the season, then Yao out the other half, and this year we get the chance to see if Artest can keep his head on too!! YAY!

Can you use a 2K cam (or similar) for online play?? Was is difficult to adapt to the buttons based on using a shot stick for so many years?? Just looking for general observations coming from someone who played 2K for a long time.

I can honestly say I purchased 2k9 and rented Live because I read about the full version with way too many issues. I played like last year and I think the gameplay in 08 is better then 09. I also hate the 2K gameplay. Your players are all over the place when you try to RT and LT. I think it's BS when you have to mash a combination of buttons to do moves. I've always supported 2K sports which is why I bought it and I promised myself after Madden 09 I would never buy an EA product only rent it from gamefly.

Your best choice is to rent and see how it fairs up to 2K. I personally think it's more fun then 2K.

Thanks for the opinion. I think it will be nice to play something different. I'll have to run a few games to start making a decision but both games look like they have flaws - it's a matter of which is more fun for each individual.

Online: Switch to live. No comparison.

If you want it to be about who is better opposed to some hidden formulas...

You know LeBron's dunk package is fun... but watching it over and over and over... is annoying. lol. You know what I mean?

Live is more real player vs player.

On ball it's a great chess match screw what anyone says.

I am mad at 2k online, too, and I switched.

Re: NBA2K guy thinking about switching

NBA 2k9 is definitely a sim game, in regards to animations, sig shots/animations, atmosphere, in game presentation, certain behaviours etc.

Ofcourse it has its flaws that prevent it from making it a perfect sim, but it's still more sim then anything else on the market.

Live 09 is a fun game to. MUCH better online IMHO (I find arcadey type ball games more fun against a friend). Offline is fun too.

Apparently Live has more accurate stats when it comes to PPG, RPG etc during a season, but as far as the game goes, it plays like an arcade ball game with sim elements.

Rent Live out and try it for yourself though. See if you like it.

Like I said in another thread. Just because it aint a sim, doesn't mean it won't be fun. Because it is.

Just got through playing 2 games online. Pretty fun game but damn - how do you play D. Guys were just going around me and when I push the jump button it takes like 2 seconds for my guy to jump.

One other question - how do you pass to a specific player without icon passing. The rented game did not come with a manual so I'm trying to figure out everything manually. Does the Y button do anything on offence??

Use the practices in the gym man

On D stop playing every guard tight because you're gambling too much and any quick or smart PG can beat you because that's not good defense

When you jump, stop holding the "turbo" button and just press the block button without doing aything else. When you hold down the turbo he bends his knees to gather for a lunge so you in that instance would have to jump far earlier than the ball handler knowing when he'll jump, so just press the jump button only.

Give the man a little space they wont just jack up shots on you unless that's their tendencies which it isnt for most guards. If he turns his back to you then get up on him because there is something likely up when that happens.
