Re: Ask the devs a question
May have been asked already, but next year are there going to be the ability to import draft classes from NCAA 10 to Live 10? I really love that kind of stuff, being able to play a Legacy in NCAAMM and then import my players and try to draft them in NBA Live.Comment

(1) I understand a lot of people are complaining about missing banked shots (if they even do occur in the game, which should be increased), but the bigger issue are the layups. 99.9% of layups in the NBA are off the glass. In the game, they flip it up 2 feet over the rim and drops straight down.
(2) Seems like everyone also noted the rim physics. But the bigger shot issue is how you know right away after a jump shot if it's going to go in or not. The made shots have a very distinctive arc. I want to see more variant results. Seems like a minor thing, but the suspense of will a shot go in or not is one of the best things about basketball (like when guys shoot a 3, or late games). It's kind of annoying how a made shot follows the exact same arc every time (and same rim physics, like swish), no matter who the player is. So not only do I want to see more realistic shots and rim physics (how every made shot is a swish), I also want to see balls bouncing around the rim (shooter's touch), or hitting the back of the rim etc. but also different players have different arcs on their shots. For example on the Lakers, Vlad Rad has a HIGH arc on his shot. Odom has a flat one etc.In the game, all the misses have the same arc, and all the makes have a distinctive arc too.
(3) The other big issue with gameplay is the auto subsitutions. The rosters get updated nicely, but there needs to be a system where the rotations should be more accurate. I get the 11th and 12th men on my bench (who rarely play in the NBA) get checked in halfway through the 1st period over noteable 6th men and key players off the bench. It just seems random. I've had games where Barbosa or Eddie House don't even play, but bench warmers come in and play key minutes. Or the Lakers, Sun Yue (who is left handed in real life, but right handed in the game) comes in for Fisher, and Chris Mihm is the first guy off the bench in the game (but doesn't play in real life). So some type of rotation system would be nice.
(4) I also would like to see more variance between the teams. Hard to explain, but every team plays exactly the same in the game. Seems like winning is more of a result of the game sliders and difficulty settings. There doesn't seem to be any disadvantage or advantage when playing against the Bobcats or Celtics. The game doesn't seem to recognize a good or bad team. If I'm the Celtics or Spurs, I don't feel like i can shut down a bad team any more than I could if I was the Warriors for example. And if I'm playing against a poor offensive team, it doesn't seem like there's anything that gives me an advantage to slow them down. Know what I'm saying? That might be asking too much, but it seems like the player is at the mercy of the computer AI and the difficulty level, and it doesn't matter one bit if it's a good team or bad team. A Matt Caroll will get his just as much as a Kevin Garnett. Seems like the CPU is programmed to play a certain way to beat you based on the difficulty level, regardless of what team or player they are.
I would like these issues addressed before flashy things like arena specific sounds etc. The core gameplay is more important, while the bells and whistles can come later.Last edited by pbz06; 01-04-2009, 07:07 PM.Comment

By the way, I disagree with you on the "different teams are all same" part. i have geat games against the tough teams (Boston, Phoenix, etc) but easily blow away the lower echelon teams.Comment

Re: Ask the devs a question
Also, will the mysterious physics be improved? I still see some "magnetics" going on by the defense, while some offensive animations look weird going from one to the other, especially when dunking. But the defense can be annoying....you can beat the defender, but he gets pulled back to you with a gravitational pull and plops right back in front of you, especially on fast breaks.Comment

Re: Ask the devs a question
And I'm stubborn about the "teams are the same" part, lol. I've been testing it a lot the last couple days. I feel like I'm playing the exact same opponent each time, regardless of the team. It's not any harder to stop an Adam Morrioson than it is to stop a Chris Bosh. If the CPU is set to Superstar/All-Star, it will get theirs no matter what, just to reach its difficulty bar set by the sliders.Last edited by pbz06; 01-04-2009, 08:06 PM.Comment

Re: Ask the devs a question
Hey Iminurbase,
Are you folks aware that there is a still a freezing issue coming out of the quater breaks? Sometimes the camera just freezes on a close up of the bench with no way out other than quiting the game.
This happened a ton in 08 but still happens some in 2009. Not complaining, just wanted to make sure you knew it was still out there so you good folks could keep working on it.

It happens quite often when playing online. Maybe every 5 or so games.Comment

Re: Ask the devs a question
Hey Guys, just want to come on here and say thanks to the devs and producers who come on here and answer questions and actually get things done for all of us who love NBA Live. It's really cool that the thoughts of the players are listened to and more importantly acted on.
Thanks!Comment

DaWolf,
We realize that animations are a key part of the success of NBA LIVE and we're putting alot of effort towards this. Beluba might be able to talk in detail though.Follow me on twitter: www.twitter.com/stephensonmc

Re: Ask the devs a question
Rasheed Wallace also only played 11 minutes compared to Kwame Brown's 22 in a game last night. Surprised that the auto-subs aren't better with all the Live 365 data that feeds into the game. You'd think that the autosubs could be based off the real-life rotations... that would be epic.
This issue is exacerbated by the horrible substitution menus. You can't access them during free throws or other breaks (only timeouts and during the game), so half the time you're getting the ball stolen or dribbling out the clock trying to scroll through 5 guys to find your backup SG. Also, the layout is just pretty rough, having to scroll through players, the menu going away if anything happens (stoppage, foul, etc.) and resetting your changes... it makes auto-subs necessary, basically... but they're all messed up too.Last edited by Stumbleweed; 01-07-2009, 12:11 PM.Send your Midnight Release weirdo pics/videos to my new website: http://www.peopleofmidnightreleases.com!Comment
