Re: 1.02 Patch update
Steph...I love you bro and your honesty...
But I had a guy work for us once who constantly told everyone "tommorow things will be fine", "that report...next time I'll get it right"..."I'll see where it's at"..."I think Dave has it, let me check"...
Everyone loved the man.
But after a while, we all stopped listening to him. He just kept on saying "tommorow".
I just don't understand why you guys couldn't have come on here two weeks ago and said "fast breaks aren't able to be addressed...we can't fix the online stuff" etc and let everyone know the truth. Not just the PR rhetoric.
You guys said "MS / SONY haven't aproved it...we can't tell you what's in it in case it's not in the final version"...
But you sure as hell could have told us what was not in it so that we all knew what to expect.
Just my two cents.
But I've always found being completely up front with people was the way to treat them. "Sorry, that can't be done" is a hell of a lot better in my world than "I can't tell you that" and leaving the customers hanging with false hopes.Comment

Re: 1.02 Patch update
I didnt purchase live, havent in awhile. But I wanted to read this thread.
I must say, Im actually really impressed with the EA workers here. You guys seem down to earth and not shooting fire in our butts.
It's much appreciated im sure by people that own the game. It's just not my cup of tee.
Keep up the good work guys!Paul Harris...thats all

Re: 1.02 Patch update
As you see my post plus question was completely ignored. Which leaves me to believe they purposely left it out. This is a marketing move so that you will buy next years game and you can say that its fixed. And next year will consist yet of another bug that they allow to leak by. Its about monoply, money.
If what they did with Madden doesnt help you to see anything nothing else will. I wont play the fool.Comment

But when we say "we can't tell you that," we really mean that.
I don't expect any of you to buy our "rhetoric." We understand the expectations on all of us as a team and game. All I hope for is that you take us seriously when we talk to you. I know that you all want the best game possible. But TRUST me my man, we want that very same thing.Follow me on twitter: www.twitter.com/stephensonmc

But, for the life of me, I don't understand why you can't say "this won't be fixed in the patch".
If a client came in and said to me "can you get 100 of these? by sunday?"...
And I knew I couldn't...I'd tell him.
I don't see any benefit for me or him in saying "I can't answer that..." or "I'm not able to tell you if I can do that for you".
This is not national security. It's a video game that people have paid for.
Not being able to tell people about a product they've bought...just seems weird to me.
I don't know any industry, apart from the software industry, that could do it and get away with it...
I'm looking forward to the updates and seeing the long term impact you and Mike have.
Strange way to deal with customers though...
Enough from me

Re: 1.02 Patch update
Really the sad part about this is how the they missed the accessories bug in the first place. I mean this has to be the only Live game that has team colors not working out of the box. I just don't understand how in the development process they were playing/testing the game and did not realize that every single player was wearing black accessories. You have to realize that they have many choices, and your choice may not seem like the best choice for them. You have people like you and me who all they care about is how the game is played. But, if you look at the Accessories thread, there are seemingly endless posts on people expressing their dire need to have accessories match what the players use EVERYDAY. Now, I'm not saying I agree with them, but they took that into consideration when deciding what to put in the patch.
If you think about it, what is going to be both easier AND satisfy some customers? My guess would be the accessories addition was. Not only was it most likely easier to implement, but it also shut some of us up in the process. Not to even mention the fact that it might not even have been possible given size of patches, time to work on them with pressure from us (let alone upstairs), and still fitting in time to work on next years release.
Because of that, they had to include the fix in the patch, thus taking up space that could have been used for other gameplay fixes.
And I agree with Court_vision, a lot of the disappointment could've been avoided if only we knew what was going to be included or not included in the patch.
For their part, the Madden team (Ian, Phil) did a great job of having continuous discussions with the community regarding the gameplay fixes and other content that were included in their 2 patches. I mean, it seemed like every step of the way the community was involved/informed. I was hoping that we could've had the same discussions here.
By the way, stephenson, just because you're the most visible EA person here, don't take it the wrong way, that I'm attacking you. I definitely am not. I love your honesty and the dedication that you've shown so far to the game and to this community, and I understand completely that not everything is entirely in your hands, or your responsibilty. I want to believe that you have a great team there, and I'm really looking forward to 2010 still.
But if this is it for 09 (aside from DNA and 365 updates), thanks for a great and enjoyable game. Despite the issues, I'm really satisfied with it.
I'll be playing now.

Re: 1.02 Patch update
Court why would you continue to buy a product year after year that you deemed "a work in progress"? If you feel Live has had problems for the past few years why keep buying it? Just rent it, no one is forcing you to buy the product. You do have other options when it comes to B-Ball games. Your argument about spending a lot of money on a franchise and therefore feel very upset about not getting your moneys worth is moot because: you had the option to not purchase the product, try the product out completely free of charge (demo) before it was released, rent the product to really see if you want to spend your money on said product, or read the various reviews/message boards with info about the product before you decided to purchase it.Steph...I love you bro and your honesty...

This is the first Live I've bought in years, (last one was Live 98) so it's not like I'm a Live super fan. Live has been bad for a while (not counting this year) and you and I knew this before ever having to purchase the actual full $60 game.Last edited by sportzhead; 11-21-2008, 03:10 AM.I'm just new boot goofin' - Lieutenant Dangle of Reno 911Comment

Re: 1.02 Patch update
That's what's really weird. The MADDEN team could update continuously and say what was in the patch...

But the LIVE team were sworn to some sort of dramatic secrecy....

Re: 1.02 Patch update
I was living in Asia the first three years and imported the game from the USA. I couldn't refund / return it. I bought it on trust.Court why would you continue to by a product year after year the you deemed "a work in progress"? If you feel Live has had problems for the past few years why keep buying it? .
This year I am in Aus and we don't have rentals for video games. Again, no option.
Demos = there's a million people saying "it's not the same as the final product".
I am happy with this years product...but dissapointed in the fact it could have been much better if some glaring issues were addressed.Comment

Re: 1.02 Patch update
Just to add...while I was living in Asia, I bought the US NBA Live from the States for three straight years...
Despite the fact pirate copies were everywhere for 1/20 th of the price.
I paid full RRP + $20 mail because I wanted the real produt and the "support" a legit product is supposed to have.
I guess that makes me an idiot

Re: 1.02 Patch update
Steph has more patience than I...
I hate patch time because everyone expects all their pet peeves to be fixed, and think the devs are idiots for not doing so. Seeing phrases like 'poor effort' is a tough read. The amount of time we have all put into 09 is incredible, and the post launch effort has been immense as well. As a gamer and a basketball nut, seeing bugs and other frustrating issues in my game kills me much more than it does you all, trust me. Making games is all about hard work, a little luck, and tough choices. Not everything in our game we want to improve can be completed with a couple simple lines of code for a patch. We have to be careful that an improvement we want to quickly make doesn't derail the whole game.

Re: 1.02 Patch update
Why not simply say that two weeks ago? Doesn't seem hard to say straight out "hey, we can't fix fast breaks". Simple.Steph has more patience than I...

I said "poor effort" and I'll stand by that. You say "pet peeves"...well, if LeBron James amd 99% of wing players in the NBA not being able to run a fast break is a "pet peeve", then you obviously watch different NBA basketball than I do.
If I complained here about a missing headband or a guys tattoo being wrong...I'd allow you "pet peeves" comment.
As it is, I think what you've just written is completely unjustified.Comment
