Bad News: '10 to only have 1 shot button for layups, dunks, jumpshots

I didn't read anything about this here on OS, but this is some bad news to me. Rather than having a dedicated dunk/layup button and a dedicated shoot button, the controls are all going to be in one button. Mike Wang posted in that thread, and it seems like he's just trying to make the game like 2K (which is a bad thing).
I own 2K9, and you can't dunk from a standstill. You'll shoot a missed layup every time. You have to be running, with turbo, free of defenders, and hit the button at the right time. Otherwise, you'll shoot a layup/pull up jumper.

I thought the two button shot system was great for NBA Live, and I'm really disappointed to hear about this.
If Marcus reads this, please hear my cry for the old system. Or if you're going to go ahead with this one, please at least include the option to use the current control scheme. That includes letting us use that option online in ranked games. Don't sacrifice functionality for the sake of "innovation", and please don't try to add a "shot stick", like 2K has. The stick doesn't even affect the shot in their series, it just acts like the square/x button.

Either Marcus or Beluba said on here that we would have 100% control as far as whether we want to shoot a layup/dunk or a jumper even though it's all one button.

I don't know where to find the exact quote, but it's on here somewhere

Beluda told me this a long time ago and he also said it on the forum, personlly I think its a good idea, It caused a lot of herky jerky animations,clipping, suction dunks and I swear it was the only button people new online. i do agree it put you in control but imo was holding the gameplay back.

Well, you gotta understand his beef-- it's frustrating in a game like 2K where you wanna shoot a jumper and end up laying it up or vice versa.

i get the beef but we haven't even seen the controls yet... mike and marcus both have said we have complete control..we are in good hands people

i love the way 2k uses the shot stick , a 2 button system isnt bad but it leads to messed up animations and everyone attempting dunks/layups the entire game. shotstick FTW you can do anyting you want with it . choose dunk type, layup hand, post moves, leaners, fadeaways, etc. All you need is knowledge of the controls and you can work it easy. The nba live 09 2 button system is just easlily abused.

Ray I think shot stick offers wayyy more shot control than lives old 2 button system.

just the title of the button let you know you press it and your suprised cause you don't know whether he will dunk or lay it up.

I'm very pleased to hear that they are going back to one button. Switching back and forth was killing my muscle memory with that two button foolishness.

I like that idea of one button...maybe in combination with another like 2k...to make a dunk or layup...I would like to have a shot stick in live...because it would also be better to fit with the new shot sigs and arcs...

DON'T PUT A SHOT STICK IN NBA LIVE!!! Me and all of my friends love to use the right stick for dribbling moves. It is one of the reasons that Live is better than 2k.

I like the idea of one button for shooting. The few times I have played Live, I would often press the layup button at the 3-point line. One button will avoid any confusion...I like the way this series is headed thanks to Beluba on board...

I'm fine with that. Sometimes less is more. If the shots are in context and make sense, I have zero issue with this.
