"The first time you hit the court in NBA 2K10, something might look a bit different. Yes, you'll notice things like the improved player likenesses, including animated faces, better skin textures, and greater lighting effects. But you might also notice a sense of space on the hardwood that simply wasn't present in previous iterations. As developers put it to me, that's because the proportions between player size and the floor had gotten a bit out of whack in older games, resulting in players that were slightly larger than in real life. The team took a look at all of the player models in NBA 2K10 and made size adjustments across the board, with the result of having a slightly more open feel to the play on the court.

Mike Wang already explains how 2k hide flaws with animations and I saw Way to many clipping in 2k9 to be hyped by the fact they ADD MORE animations.

On topic, Beluba will we be able to swap dumb dunks attempts and pin on the backboard silly lay up in a crowdy paint? I heard drive take collision in account, does it mean if lebron goes for a dunk and I come to help with dwight with a lot of momentum we are going to collapse, Do I have the ability to send a player on the floor if I miss my block attempt and hit him hard( this would calm the furious dunkers a bit!!)??? I know this was in live 09 but it was just some scripted animations which happened randomly...... Will it be more natural this year?

I know animations is a big things to you guys (don't blame you), but are you looking at the "thousands of animations" as all of them in the game, or what was captured? (there's a big difference) Just wondering....

I just hope the animations this year look athletic. Live 09 had animations that most NBA players looked like they wouldn't do, lmao. I hope that is fixed this year.

I'm going to turn this thread around with a question to you guys!

What did you guys think of 2K's info today?

Be honest, I can take it
The so-called "improved commentary" stood out to me, but I heard that the commentary was supposed to be improved from 2K8 to 2K9, and it really wasn't. Live 09's commentary was great on the other hand, so I think you guys still got this battle won, especially if you say you've improved in that area for 10.

Nothing else (creating draft classes, "My Player" mode, alleged better floor spacing, etc.) really matters to me, but I know I'm in the minority.

The things that really irked me about 2K9 (that Live 09 did better) were that they had a horrible animation for when a player wasn't able to back his defender down in the low post (on top of the fact that you could never back someone down consistently), lack of authentic team sets and plays and shooting layups when I wanted to shoot jumpers (and vice versa). The latter is why I'm worried about dunks/layups and jumpers being one button in Live 10, but you guys said it'll be fine...

                    1. Court Spacing ~ this was a big thing that stood out to me, all the "cheeser" moves that lot of us complain about work, because guys can double-team constantly and not be punished with kick-out/swing passes properly because of the small court size. Also this could help us punish the guy who wants to run around all day with his PG and swipe at the ball.

                    2. 82games.com ~ as mentioned earlier this is their response to Synergy, the 2K Insider rating system was subjective and I don't think anybody can argue with ratings coming from real-time stats. No more worrying because your team is in a small market and their ratings aren't reflected correctly.

                    3. My NBA (whatever the loadup screen is) ~ I really liked that, I'm a basketball junkie and it immerses you in the experience, however I like the practice court load-up as well. Perhaps the best of both worlds would be loading up to a practice court, with NBA info on a screen in the gym somehow.

                    4. Animations ~ still not certain about this, this has almost become a curse. Most people don't complain about the number of animations themselves, it's the fact that they trigger so much and you feel like you're in a RTS game at times. BBall is very reactive and I need to be able to execute specific moves consistently given the situation, and an overly canned-animation game won't allow you to have that freedom.

                    5. Overall ~ I think they knew they were going to have to bring it this year, with the departure of Mike Wang and it seems like they are making strides, however just like with Live, I will reserve judgement until I see some vids that demonstrate the improvements/features mentioned.

To answer this I know that 9000 animations wont be in 2k....I'm more interested in the ones that made the cut out of that, and which ones they kept from last year. Most importantly will we have control over these animations? Will these animations lead to clipping? Will they give us turtorial to pull off some of these moves or do I have to play the game for months and come to gaming forums to figure some of these things out?

All in all, I think we just want realistic animations overall. When Im doing a lay-up or hookshot in Live, i dont want to see the ball come off the side of my hand, it should leave my fingertips. I think we really just want to see a variation of different aniamtions. Kinda goes into the collision detection also. If im in the paint or if Im guarding the player on the perimeter with "good" or "poor" defense i want to "see" this in the game. I dont want to play great defense and see the player Im guarding go up for a shot that looks like I wasnt even in the play (like he's in the gym shooting or dunking by hiself) acknowledge my presence as a defender. Either call me for a blocking foul or show me making contact. I dont care if the shot goes in sometimes just have the animations that show i was there. On offense lets say Im driving to the hole on a fastbreak and there's one guy back on D and he has pretty good postion to make a Defensive play on the ball. I should have the option to have to hang in the air a spilt sec longer to get my shot off and if i shoot it too quickly It'll result in a slightly blocked shot animation. To sum up all of this we just want every game to be different and feel different, with lots of aniamtions that dont take away our control of the player on offense and defense.
Yeah so in summation I don't know who you racing I'm already at the finish line with the flag waving, c'mon!

hey Marcus is the allstar game venue gonna change from year to year in dynasty mode?

Is there gonna be an improved championship celebration at least 2 mins long?

Do you think yall have added enough animations for every situation so that the game does not get stale after a month?

I like the fact that they try to nail the players with animations, from the way they move, run, shoot, post up, fadeaway, dribble, floater, leaner. Things like this really make it feel like you are playing with a certain player and is something Live should really look into.

..But with 2k sometimes their animations take away a lot of control, and although it looks good, sometimes your just watching and your amazed at the game instead of what you actually did, at the beginning its cool;but when you've seen nearly every animation it gets repetitive. I play the hell out of sports games, and in 2k i can trigger just about every animation, no game really feels different.

I do like the D-League and Summer League tho. The thanksgiving game presentation. Also the fact that their storylines tie in with the commentary, and at pre game the announcers talk about it if their not messing wit each other. (Ex: arguing about the Pau Gasol trade to Lakers)

2k really has some things that have Live beat, but their not things that Live can't compete with and or catch up to. Basically animations are were they thrive, and making the game look like real basketball, even if you don't have total control. Maybe thats where Live could 1 up them..

Make the game look like real life, but don't lose control

for animations, I just dont want to see the same dribble move twice within 10 seconds of each other, or the same dunk 3 times in a row. especially not by different players.

anyway, I asked this in the waning moments of the previous 2 threads, so I'll ask again.

Has the Create a Player Limit been raised past 50 players?

Re: Ask The Developers a Question

As primarily a 2K fan who is more excited about Live this year, the news from 2K was good and piqued my interest in the game. Mainly, I'm excited about the My Player mode (which I've been waiting for in a b-ball game forever), especially since there is the D-League/Summer League and some added depth beyond essentially just paying your games on player lock and getting graded afterwards.

They didn't say all that much about gameplay improvements aside from the turbo issue and the double-team fixes (both of which were desperately needed), so I'll leave my judgment on that for later. I'm very skeptical about their commentary once again... they haven't shown they have a clue in that area for some time now.

Probably the biggest thing for me is the court spacing fixes, because it was getting kind of ridiculous. That, and the 82games.com addition are probably the most exciting gameplay-related things they talked about. I think that Synergy has more and better data (video especially) than 82games.com, and I think that having an extra year to implement Dynamic DNA will help you guys win on that end once again. And truly, if they still have the 2K Insider doing ratings, the tendencies can only do so much for the default/online rosters -- I MUCH prefer DNA and the fact that it affects ratings directly, at least on paper. Agian, the implementation is everything -- even with the added data, 2K10 could still be a mess with all the PIP and stuff like that... I guess I just have more faith in Live/Synergy when it comes to this stuff.

9,000 animations... couldn't care less. And I don't think all of those will be in there unless they're counting each dribble as an animation. And even if they are all in the game, if they trigger randomly and take control out of your hands, they're useless. I love all the signature differentiation 2K has, but the animations were out of control in 2K9... and they probably had nearly that amount of animations in that game, they were just so overwhelming that you couldn't even walk around without triggering some BS. Live's movement is so much more solid (footplanting/lack of sliding especially), and I think the animations you guys added will look better for that reason.
