Re: Official NBA Live 10 Impressions Thread

Just picked it up and had a very quick play. Only 20 minutes, so I'm probably gushing a bit. Apologies for being overly enthusiastic in advance.

    Very smooth.

The atmosphere is awesome. The best I have experienced in a game by far.

The crowd... Wow, loved the way it builds in a close game.

Loved the home crowd booing the illegal screen called on one of the home town boys.

The game feels exciting and vibrant to play. Compared to 09 which had some solid gameplay but was a little on the bland side. I can see myself playing this for a long time.

Control in general feels sooo nice.

I know it's all about sim here... (as it should be) but just a quick note on the easier settings...

    Pro:
Played quick game on Pro (2min quarters) (Easing myself into it) Very nice. Tried to force the issue but couldn't get a dunk. Pro, whilst more forgiving, still seems to be geared towards rewarding intelligent play. Good mode for casual play, you can muck around a bit but still get the W.

    Rookie:
Rookie is definitely the mode for arcade goodness. Great fun for when your mates come over. Easy for them to pick up and play and not get owned by the sim baller who knows the game inside and out.

Thank you Mike, Marcus, Ryan and Co, thank you.

P.S. In the hangar I saw the coolest glitch ever. KG froze and glided slowly in a half circle around the rim. Kind of like he was moving but his animation was frozen. Looked awesome. I think I was going in and out of menus at the time.

Re: Official NBA Live 10 Impressions Thread

WOW!!! is all I have to say about this game definitely one of the best bball game I've played so far. Just had a great game w/ the nets vs the grizzlies (sans AI). For the 1st 3 quarters I just couldn't buy a bucket but something sparked in the 4th and I just started hitting.

If I remember correctly at the end of the 3rd I was probably down by 9 or 10. At the end of the game I won by 10 so it was one tough comeback. I felt so proud after that game because I won due to playing lockdown D and executing correctly. No videogame stuff there just pure basketball baby.

Live 10 does two things remarkably well, better then any other game I've played. One it forces you to play to your teams strengths. I hear a lot of guys say it forces you to play sim but I don't think its doing that.

It forces you to play to your personnel so you can't expect to win one way with the C's and then try and do the same thing with Cavs it just won't work. And that is a great thing to me because it makes the game feel so fresh every game.

And the second thing it does is show you how hard it is to play a consistently good day in and day out in the NBA. A lot of times when I'm watching a game on TV ill get frustrated when I see my team lose leads or drop games at the end.

Now I have a better understanding why that happens because in Live this year one slip up can cost you a lead. This game is so much like the NBA its not even funny.

And the what makes this game so great is that the consistency goes both ways because the CPU will suffer from it too. In most bball games once the CPU gets going they cant be stopped but fortunately thats not the case in Live 10 as seen in my Nets vs Grizzlies game.

Bad teams will let you back in it while good teams will keep the pressure on you for the full 48 mins. Overall I would have to say I'm impressed w/ this game and I can't believe that it still has room to improve. The Live series is going to be one hell of a force to reckon with in the coming years if this game is any indication of what it to come.

Rant over I'm going back to playing now.

Same here. The possibilties are endless as this game continues to (hopefully) improve over the years.

Great to see the vast majority of folks posting are just as awestruck as I saw. I just finished playing 4 games of OTP and my boys and I loved every second of it.

on superstar level does the cpu play fair and smart or is this level hard because they get attribute boosts?

just tried the demo for the 1st time tonite, and the last time i had this much fun playing a bball game was nba 2k3.

Re: Official NBA Live 10 Impressions Thread

These are some of my issues with Live demo on superstar could owners please read these impressions and tell me if you guys feel these same things are present in the retail:

While the rebounding animations look great, the logic seems below average.
I think it has more to do with the fact that only one or two people seem to react after a missed shot while everyone else tends to stand around and this looks really bad imo. If you don't switch to control someone players don't seem to react to the ball even though they are close by it.

This game is really good imo but it utilizes a lot of cheap cpu tactics imo in order to keep things in check. I understand what they did to keep the paint in check, but the fact that players turn into mugsy boges, patrick ewing, charles barkley in "Space Jam" after they got robbed of their skills by the aliens the second they set foot in the paint is waaaay overdone(what I hate most about this is the cpu doesn't seem as vulnerable to this on the other end). This also hurts offensive rebounding as the ball is knocked away often the second you pull down a tough board in a heated contest if you don't act with Jet Li like quickness to kick the ball out or go up with it. Speed cheats/recovery on defense, guys not reacting to getting ripped looking like their brain got ripped from their skull the second the ball is knocked away. cpu circus shots going in like uncontested dunks when they get down. User cpu teammates not playing well on defense leaving the paint and perimeter wide open. I unfortunately feel that the cpu has a different set of rules they play by. While this keeps games competetive it feels hella cheap.

Love the playcalling, shooting and the dribbling, but passing feels inconsistent when you use anything other than icon or freestyle.
EA and 2k have the unfortunate task of trying to balance on a tightrope of fun and sim while trying not to fall 10,000 feet to their death. Instead of a safety net waiting down below there will just be angry customers quick to move out of the way and talk of their failure.

                  It was so real!

Okay so I am using the Raptors and in one play Calderon is in the corner with like 5 seconds to go, Bargnani is at the 3 point line close to Calderon and Belinelli is on the other end at the 3 point line also.

Time is running out and I either got to pass it or shoot it, so I decide to pass it and while I am passing Bargnani moves all the way from the 3 point line to set a screen and Belinelli catches the ball wide open!

It was pretty cool to see the AI was smart enough to go set the screen by himself and free Belinelli before the time run out.

                    Re: It was so real!

This game is too much fun. The computer will hit you hard if you don't have your eyes open on D every possession. I went up against the Knicks and sure enough their first two times down the court Al Harrington tried three pointers. If it wasn't him trying to get a shot off early in the shot clock it was another Knick player. Needless to say I blew them the **** out with fastbreaks. Alot of people say it's hard to get fastbreaks and it is but when you do get them it's rewarding, I don't see that big of a problem with that aspect of the game. More fouls should definitely be called though. I really don't have any complaints gameplay wise. I'm about as happy with this game on the first day as I have ever been with a basketball game and I haven't even went in deep yet. Calling plays is a must for the most part and if you wanna have a shootout you better be running with a team that's built for that. Can't wait to get out of school tomorrow so I can play this even more, I'm half way tempted to skip haha. Live really held it down with this one I'm glad I made this choice. All of my friends bought 2k10 and they're giving me **** about Live but I made the right pick for me. Props EA!

my honeymoon is over...... 2nd impression

the steals are out of control, so i turned them down because when i see players diving at the ball while i am dribbling it in an attempt to make a steal thats a bit much...

as well as the interceptions only to find out that thats not the issue...

why is it in the live 10 universe that i can cross over vince carter get by him only to have him recover throw his body on me and i lose the ball, on this planet thats a hip check and a foul, now if artest of some other sneaky defender gets away with that kool but it seems everyone at every position gets this

so i raise " hands on the perimeter" now i can run the break with shaq with no worries i just cant find a happy medium IT should be a foul...

i think this game needs to be re-rated defensively, i'll go on record and say 90% of nba players dont play " aggressive " defense.

this game robs you defensively and thats a new take on difficulty expression, its new direction and one i can take but atleast reserve it for the scrappy players , vince carter could not and would not guard my grand mother he should not be picking anyone's pocket muchless D rose...

i dont over dribble, so thats not it, which brings me to another area i am trying to cope with and that the court being so small in the broadcast view. it just seems clustered since the player models were upgraded and the court seems untouched but i am now playing on press box so no worries there....

Seems like the EA Live group busted thier butts this last year making Live good again though last year you could tell they were getting there.

Makes me wonder why they couldnt do this to begin with when 360 and PS3 came out and this is how Live should of been years ago. imagine how good the game would be now.

Also Stephan thanks for not going on vacation for weeks after the release like some people "cough cough" Ian....

Good post. The game is definitely much weaker defensively...a lot of guys here are so 'infatuated' right now that they are overlooking that side of the game. In a few days, those posts will flood in. The offensive side of it is so good that people are ignoring D at the moment.

There's way, way, way too many steals and interceptions.

There's other things there...I set up to take a charge with Boozer on D...and Chris Bosh got called for the charge. I watched the replay and Bosh wasn't even close to me. He was a good foot away. There was no collision. 2K would get slaughtered for that, but LIVE seems to be getting away with it. At the moment

Great game...but the D side of things is pretty poor.

Hopefully sliders will fix this and not create too many probs as you have found.

I bought a ps3 for madden and NBA Live this year and Madden has been a joke and garbage. Cant even play a competitive game on any setting against the cpu. I bought Live 09 last year and decided to finally wait and not buy a EA game on release day and to wait for impressions. Im not gonna lie I was upset on what I heard and read about dynasty and simed stats and it turned me off but I feel alot better about it now.

One thing I can thank Ian and the Madden team for is I have learned to now wait and sit back on EA games before buying it. Right now Im leaning towards buy, but we'll wait and see what happens with more time and when people comeback to reality after this high of a new game. Also learned that b4 I could even start my francise in Madden I had to wait a month and a week after week 1 of the NFL season for a roster update to play so theres no point in buying a game b4 you can accually start a season.

These are all still present in the game...very noticeable.

I've only played NBA 2K10 for about 30 mins so far...I'm going to play it a lot tomorrow, but anyone like you thinking about switching 'over' to LIVE should be made aware that LIVE is a long, long way short of 2K in terms on many basketball nuasances / small things / animations. Rebounding and blocked shots are about 3 seasons behind 2K. It still has a long, long way to go in many regards.

That's as honest as I can be bro

But...LIVE does do many things very well and adds some things that other games have never had. There's no 'perfection' here, but there is a lot of things done well to go with the bad things.
