But, I can see where you're coming from on this for sure - that's why I bought 2K as well. I get get my graphics/animations fix there!

I think the issue that people have has more to do that the CPU ball handler collision, results in the CPU at least going to the foul line, at a much greater clip then you do, when the user does the same exact move.

In most cases they do not happen unless you're forcing a lay up when you don't have a lane. Sometimes you do get sucked into an animation that leads to a collision and that is annoying.

If you stay focused on the paint and watch how many defenders the CPU has in there you will find that it's pretty realistic in terms of when you can get a clean lay up off and when you can't. Sometimes you think you're by a defender and you're really not (looking at the replay from different angles will show this). This isn't 2K where you can be "kinda" past a guy, press the shoot button and some animation magically warps you past/through your defender.

The last game I played (USA vs Japan, started a FIBA tourney) I really focused on the opponent defenders in the paint. If I had an iso with Kobe but there was a help defender sagging far into the paint my strategy would be get shake the first defender and then do a little float/leaner/fadeaway instead of trying to posterize a CPU defender every single time I get past my intial defender. I smoked Japan by 30 and rarely saw a collision animation.

At the same time I'd pay attention (mostly happened when I ran a play) and the lane would really open up. I think I had three dunks (Melo, Wade, LBJ) in a half court set where I was able to get down the lane, pretty realistic IMO. I don't want a dunkfest or even a layup fest. Plenty of times with those guys though I'd shoot little leaners at 10-15' feet and I was slaying the defense.

I guess what I'm finding is that you need to avoid over-penetration, really pay attention to help defense, get used to pulling at 10-15' regularly and you'll be a-okay.

Ding! Ding! Ding!, we have a winner folks!

I think the same applies when the CPU is going on runs.

Ive been able to stave them off, when the game flow starts to change, by paying attention to who they are shooting with, and when.

The CPU absolutely will change the way they are going to try to score, if you show that you can time your contest/close out right.

I may be in the minority, but I love the contact animations at the basket. Teams defend the paint with reckless abandon, and even if I thought it was overdone, it prevents the user from finding a way to exploit certain moves and from getting too many points in the paint. I also see the cpu have variety in their attack, but again, I could be in the minority.
As far as fouls go, I did see a difference when I maxed out the sliders. I could be imagining things, but I think certain players get foul calls more than others. I played with Memphis (great video game team that will miss the playoffs due to the fact that they play out West) and it seemed like Iverson got more foul calls than anyone else on the team.
Overall, I'm enjoying the game and while it's not perfect, it's the most realistic game I've played to date IMO.

I actually got a superstar to foul out.

LeBron had 5 in the 3rd and they didn't bring him back until under a minute left in the 4th. He had to commit the intentional foul.

Only thing there is in reality he would be brought in with 5-6 minutes left...

I DEFINITELY agree with you on alot points Football4Natic.....

Getting into the lane is a huge part of basketball, it just is.....No matter how much some would like to think, The NBA isnt all mid range jumpers man and set plays (which this game NAILS btw). My problem was the logic behind driving to the basket....Theres no flat out blow by speed...a cross or size up is needed. Live has such a great Help D mechanic that they could easily put this in the game w\o a problem...but its painfully absent this year.

I have faith that EA can bring some new animations to the table, being that they did such a great job with Madden as far as that. This game needs it...Theres what? 1 mid air collision animation? I dont feel the difference between Wade and Rip Hamilton b\c I know what its going to look like get once I get there....one player just has a better chance of making it than the other. Da Czar gave me some GREAT advice, but it still just feels so awkward at times driving man...I just had that wash, rinse, repeat feeling after putting some time in.

I also feel you on the CPU foul calls lol I was JUST saying this to someone...It seems like the CPU can just kind of "summon" a foul off their contact animation...(the SAME one I just did at will) which gives me that feel of "scripted" too...All this being said....the foundation is THERE man...I just cant look past alot of these things...The fast pace part of basketball isnt any less "sim" then the half court sets..

I agree with you for the most part. I can get into the lane without a cross if I get my momentum right, but how often do you see players get to the lane without using a dribble move or a pick? It doesn't happen often. As far as the contact animations, I think you're right but it doesn't bug me. I'd rather have a challenging lane experience with a repetitive animation than to find a consistent living in the paint. I think the Live team just needs to polish things a bit for next year.

I got a chance to play for a bit at bestbuy and the game is ok for me. I'm concerned about some things though before I consider opening the shrink wrap off my copy.

Does anyone else think as if the game feels scripted? What I mean by this is, while scoring and shooting it feels as if there's a certain or are certain tricks to get the ball in the hoop. There is a certain time where I will pump fake and the guy won't catch up to me while I drive past him. Also this scripted feeling reminds me of live 2005, because I thought the same back then.

Also I do notice some cpu fouls that seem be forced onto me.

Am I just not perceiving the game correctly or does this game have a "scripted" feel?

Well, you can get into the lane by running plays. You guys are getting that contact animation because you are forcing it into the paint. If it not there regroup, period.

Looking at the NBA, it is not easy to just drive in the paint. Even the superstars pull up or throw up floaters MOST of the time.

Also when the superstars start doing their thing, change your gameplan. You still might not stop them, but you will at least slow them down.
What world do you live in?

Just got the game and have to say that it is really fun to play. Courts look great, and players for the most part look and animate well. Some of the animations are kind of strange and I don't seem to have control. For example if I'm running down the court and want to stop and pop a 3 pointer, the player takes like 3 extra steps that put him inside the arc. Maybe I'm doing something wrong but I've tried to make him stop & shoot to no eval.

Also the colors in this game are just off. The Cavs blue uniforms just look wrong (to bright) and Philly's home court is painfull to the eye's as well. It's not my t.v. btw.

The game is fun but flawed like every other sports title out there. It surprises me that so many people are saying that Live 10 is "straight up sim" out of the box when it's not. It's just a damn good game of b-ball and I that's all I wanted.

All the time in the NBA man, in fact its my go to IRL lol.
Your first step and burst are some of your deadliest weapons...you might see a stutter step or hesitation dribble....but not always a square up and killer cross to get to the 2nd level of the D.... Dont get me wrong, I dont mean simply dribbling and waltzing past defenders, but these guys are QUICK.

But thats whats its all about man...it what makes YOU comfortable as a gamer.....These games LITERALLY complement each other it seems like. What one is missing, the other on seems to have...Its merely preference...but both are missing some important fundamentals..Its really what you decide to live with...

                          either way, happy gaming!

Live 10 is far from perfect out of the box, its good but far from perfect. With that said, Live has definately stepped it up this year, But after playing for 2 Quarters, 2K is still the most polished B-Ball game today. But I'm almost convinced that if 2K doesn't do enough to improve next year, Live will be the top game in the market.

I enjoy Lives arena presence and whole atmosphere, over 2K's.But that alone wasn't enough to convince me to purchase over 2K.

I'm sorry guys, but this was the best way I could sum up my impression of NBA Live 10. If the mods feel offended in anyway, then, please feel free to delete this post, as I didn't mean to come of as a nuisance and rude.
