Re: Official NBA Live 10 Impressions Thread

After much research on these forums, I decided to go with Live. Haven't opened it yet, but wanted to relate my experience buying it.

Went to Gamestop and just like others reported, I got the "why do you want Live, you sure you didn't mean 2K?" I told them No and got a lot of muttering from the 2 guys behind the counter. One was like, "wow, this is the first copy I have sold". The other asked, "do you think they still have that DNA thing in it, that sounded cool last year". Unbelievable . . . I seriously wonder if Gamestop has a deal to push 2K based on this year based on my experience and others I have read here. Plus, how can you be that stupid about the features . . . just turn the box over for crying out loud.

funny, i hear these Gamestop stories all around, where they try to talk people out of buying Live.

It seemed to be the other way around back in ps2 days.

I happened to me when i was living in LA a few years ago.

They did it to me when buying 2k5 and the next year buying 2k6.

They pushed Live like they had stock in EA

Re: Official NBA Live 10 Impressions Thread

This game is amazing..I've been a 2k head since 1999 and I can officially say Live is back to its glory days of the 90's. Mike Wang or whoever has totally turned this thing around.

I just re-played the Boston Chicago series from last year and it felt like a real NBA playoff series.

I was the Bulls and I played awful in Game 1 but made a late rally to only lose by 5. In Game 2 I pulled out the win behind a GREAT 2nd half by Rose. You could actually feel the momentum switching to my side. The crowd got quieter and I sucked the life out of Boston...it was awesome lol.

Then when I got to game 3 the Chicago crowed was JUMPIN..and I blew the Celts out. I got kinda lazy with my defense in game 4 and let it go to OT. Garnett took over in the extra session and the Celts went up by five with 10 seconds left. Salmons hits a three to cut it to 2 then I forced a turnover on the sideline and got it back with two seconds....I ran Salmons around a screen and he got a good look at a 3 for the win but he missed....I could feel the momentum go back to Boston's favor and I got BLOWN OUT in game 5 at Boston and lost game 6 back home by double digits as well.

Anyway, the point is..it played out just like a real series. The underdog got an early road win and started feeling good...even took a series lead...then the more veteran team came back to take the series....I lost but it was sooo much fun lol.

I have been praising the virtues of the DNA %'s for a few posts now, but I have to be fair, and acknoweldge a dark side.

The %'s do not necessarily factor in degree of difficulty.

Ive been playing games with the Utah Jazz, getting every player on the roster down, since I have them in a league.

Kyle Korver's "No Dribble Unguarded %" is 49%.

basically, he is a stone cold snipper in a uncontested, set shot, catch and shoot situation.

The "problem" is that ocassionally, if Im using Kyle Korver manually, through dual player control to run him off a screen, ill ocassionally be a little late pulling off of the left stick and end up shooting a drifting or fall away 22 footer, once I have him freed from the defender.

As far as the DNA is concerned, this is still a "No Dribble Unguarded" shot. If you know your shooters release, you will still drain this shot, at his DNA %

The game doesnt recognize that this is a signinficantly harder shot, then a squared up, uncontested jumper.

It translates the % the same.

I was finally able to pick this up on Friday and I'm loving the game. I'm playing on all-star and got my butt handed to me in my first two games. I was frustrated, because I couldn't get anything going in either game.

Before my third game, I took some time to study the Magic playbook and played Magic @ Lakers. I played MUCH better this time, running sets and having more of a plan on offense. It was a great back and forth game. The arena atmosphere was crazy! You could feel the tension. Unfortunately, LA pulled away at the end, but I thoroughly enjoyed myself. You definitely have to use your playbook to have success on all-star. I'm looking forward to practicing more and getting ready for Dynamic Season. Great job, Live team!

There are guys who you want to let shoot off of the dribble...guys that you want close out on in a hurry..guys who you want to force left or right..etc.. play the %'s and things will generally work out in your favor.

Sometimes you have to acknowledge that a guy is going to make a play and beat you from time to time, and you'll lose.

              That's sports.

              exactly.

the days of going 73-9 in nba live are over.

if u want that, go get live 06.

if i am the Knicks i dont mind going 35-47

I am loving the arena snapshots before the game.

              classy.
i mentioned in the wish list to keep that for 11 but add different photos, so its not rhe same one every time.

i dont know, something bout Marv just makes it sound like NBA.

Oh yea, thats because hes an NBA announcing god.

I wouldnt mind seeing him replaced tho, if Ea decides to revamp presentation.

              kerr. needs to go.
hes good but long gone as an announcer.

this has been mentioned though i am sure.

also, the lack of normal situational timeouts called by the cpu is starting to get under my skin.

I love that feeling of doing good things like back to back fast breaks for dunks and having the cpu call a TO in 2k.
              Phil was Po'd!

but in live, i dont see it

only after 12-0 runs and last second scenarios

Re: Official NBA Live 10 Impressions Thread

I posted earlier that there were too few fouls in the game. I've got all foul sliders maxed to 100 and was not seeing the kind of foul shots I like to see. Anyway, I feel I have to say I've just had a game using the latest DNA Washington vs Toronto - FT attempts - 24 CPU to 17 ME.

Brilliant stuff. I bought 2k10 on Friday, really didn't like this years version and went and bought live. I'm pretty sure I've done the right thing.

                Couple of other stats.

                Assists 20 a piece
Field Goal Percentage 40% (I have the sliders way down)
                Turnovers 17 to 10

Fast break points are still a problem but other than that I'm loving this game.

Is there a defensive assist or somthing in this game because sometimes it seems like the player moves by himself in an opposite direction instead of what I want him to do.

Of course I could just be giving the game too much credit, i mean i've had it all of 3 days and played maybe 6 whole games.
Yes, that makes the game very strategic which I like...

What I meant as far as %'s, is that sometimes IMO the game goes strictly off of them to keep things even % wise it would seem, rather then taking into the account what is actually happening on the court...like a hand in the face doesnt matter, so that % can be fulfilled. Thats just my take on it..

If you check the dna scouting report there are unguarded shooting percentages and guarded shooting perecentages.

IIRC its like unguarded off the dribble, unguarded no dribble, guarded off the dribble, guarded no dribble.
