Re: Official NBA Live 10 Impressions Thread

Got my *** kicked again by Dallas on All-Star so I decided to do some testing:

Backing off a bit more seemed to have little to no effect on the CPU fg%, so shot contested or not, it didn't seem to go in alot more or alot less over a longer stretch of gameplay.
No matter what the CPU seems to go into berzerk mode and start an incredible run where contested shots and body contact shots go in alot.
All that makes me ask how much of an impact defense ultimately makes against the CPU on All-Star? CPU seems to have strong runs no matter what and rarely does it have moments where nothing seems to work.
I then played a game on Pro, which from the start seemed all to easy. The CPU missed a lot more than on All-Star: long shots, contact shots etc. However, the CPU offense gameplay didn't really seem too different from All-Star. The fg % just was a lot lower.
But then near the middle of the 3rd quarter CPU Dallas went into berzerk mode and all shots seemed to go in.
I wasn't missing more nor did I change my defense or rotation. CPU started to hit contested shots and fade aways like on All-Star.

So my question is the following: are these CPU runs ultimately inevitable no matter what your playing style and level of mastership of this game is? Is it possible to really shut down a CPU run over a longer stretch of the game by playing tight D?

CPU is going to go on runs, that just going to happen.

If oyu are consistantly having trouble holding fg % and are not having success getting stretches of bad play out of them, then you are not defending the players properly.

You cannot defend everyone the same. Some players you want to force to shoot of the dribble, some players you want to force to take a set jumper..some players finish with more aggressivness going right vs left and vice versa. Its all in the DNA.

My problem right now is inflated rebounding numbers. Trying to raise the field goal percentage some so that everything evens out.

New to this community and an old Liver who went with 2K9 and is gladly returning this year.

I've been playing Live 10 for the last week and I'm really enjoying it...despite the fact that I can't get a W on All-Star.

Is there any way to "practice" with your team besides just playing games over and over? Is it helpful to practice at lower difficulty levels before moving up? I'm worried I'll just waste my time doing whatever is effective in Pro, but it won't carry over to All-Star and above.

While it is harder to win the way you've been playing, it's not impossible. I have yet to call a set play and have won the majority of my games and I'm not some super guru or have mad stick skillz, lol. I like the game and all but people are making this out to be some kind of super sim when it's not.

Oh yeah, the commentary on this game sucks. It's so damn repetitive it isn't funny. I thought the NCAA crew was bad enough, Albert and Kerr are in second place behing them.

Wow. Nba live 10 is great
I never realized how much fun i could have losing lol
I picked the Kings against the knicks.
The Knicks was killing me! i could NOT i repeat not stop Al harrington lol
they were killing me on fastbreaks my shots wouldnt drop
In the 4th quarter i was down by like 16.
Kevin Martin started getting hot hitting jumpers off screens and picks.
The knicks finnally started missing and i keep running the break with martin and pulling up hitting clutch 3 point shots in the final 3 minutes of the game......it was crazy!
BUT it was 2 late i ended up losing by 4 lol

Re: Official NBA Live 10 Impressions Thread

I took the Cavs into Boston last night on superstar level. Cruised the whole first half and led by at least 12 points and up to 20. Had me thinking I was playing really well on superstar.

LeBron was playing well scoring and dishing the rock. Had a mismatch with Glen Davis (subbed in at SF??) and tore him apart. That was it though after the 1st half.

Celtics came out red hot. Hitting shots and playing intense defense. I'd have a lane with LeBron but three defenders would close and I'd force a shot up instead of dishing to an open man. Got sucked into their game.

It's such a thing of beauty watching the CPU Paul Pierce get the ball on the elbow and shoot. Can't believe how awesome it looked.

In the end, got done by 15 but it was all my fault. I got sucked into the old style of gameplay and as I was falling behind, I was rushing and pushing the ball which resulted in bad play and the Celtics played an amazing 2nd half. At times I felt like they could hit anything and I was missing everything like I've read here but when I slowed the ball down and concentrated on that play, I could score. It's all about concentration. You can't lapse or you pay for it.

Superstar is an immense challenge but I really like it

i agree. I've been trying to get the achievement for Kings/Lakers but in the process i've gone from feeling cheated to having good battles. Although I find myself having to say "thats LA" when they aren't doing anything and Kobe forces his way to the middle and makes and 1 mid air shots, or Artest decides to catch fire from 3.

Had to quote this just to voice my hate for Kerr. The Gametrailers review hit it on the nose for me. The fact that he shouldn't be doing commentary is just like an extra slap. Hope EA shows him the door and gets the (not Da) Czar

Just lost my closest game on all-star Mavs vs. Jazz. I lost by three points and couldn't hit anything from downtown the entire game. The main reason I lost though is because my Mavs has an amazing 1 offensive board the entire game.

One of the first adjustments I made to the game was putting offensive rebounding at 100 and defensive rebounding at 0 for both human and CPU. One of my major gripes from last year was that there was virtually no offensive rebounding and it looks like it wasn't addressed at all this year.

It was even more frustrating in NCAA '09, taking a powerhouse team like UConn and not being able to get more than 2-3 offensive rebounds against low-majors.

Tried Pro level after being destroyed on All-Star. Seems like the CPU doesn't run a lot of plays if any on Pro.
So I lowered the CPU shot sliders to 45 on All-Star and even though CPU Atlanta had a crazy run in Q4, the overall fg% was at 47. Saw a lot less contested shots going in, which is great. On default sliders there are simply too many crazy shots going in.

I'm a diehard basketball fan who hasn't bought a new basketball game in a couple years. Although I know other sports less, I prefer playing their video games because the experience to me has felt more rewarding -- mostly because they seem to involve more fun and strategy. Basketball games to me have always been about running the ball down the court, getting a quick 2, repeat for an hour, and then hope your score is higher than the opponents when the buzzer sounds. Really not too engaging.

I haven't bought an EA basketball game since 1995. I think this time, the edge goes to Live. There are things going on in Live that make it feel and look like real basketball such as manually controlled off-ball player control. Instead of being miffed that your AI opponents are doing this or that, you just take control of that person, go where you think he should go, do what you think he should do, and then if you're doing smart basketball things, this system actually rewards you. Get open and you'll most likely make the shot. I watch a lot of Phoenix Suns basketball, and this is what I see in the NBA that actually works in the video game. Leave Steve Nash uncovered and he will absolutely burn you for a 3-pointer. It's not like flipping a coin anymore.

The sound in this game is incredible. No longer does a basketball game feel stale and staged. Amare for a dunk on his home court and the PA system plays the same sound clip as they do in real life when this happens. Steve Nash for 3 and they play the sound effect for that too. The only thing it doesn't have is The Ramones or Dr. Dre when Nash brings up the ball. Those aren't in the game for obvious reasons. I'm a gameplay over modes person. To me, this is the most important "presentation" there is. That is, the presentation in the actual game! I'm telling you the presentation in this regard is better than MLB 09 The Show. Phoenix looks and sounds like Phoenix. I imagine fans from other cities would agree on their hometown courts too.

Graphics. Again, I've read the reviews and the edge is being given to the other game on this category too. The last time I bought a basketball game was the other brand. Although that company is praised for making a fair representation of the sport, I can't say it looked like a real NBA game. Can't put my finger on it. Camera angle, player size, who knows? Every year I try to get hyped on the newest sports release and I'm here watching gameplay videos but haven't pulled the trigger due to what I've seen from both companies. Live 10 is where it's at in this regard. Not only do players look true to life but the camera angle, court to player sizing, and player movements to me, make this game the most realistic looking basketball game I've ever played. Sure I know it's a video game. But when I'm glancing at my play call options with the game going on in the foreground, my mind instantly recalls the hundreds of Suns games I've watched in the recent years and I can't help but be impressed at how much it looks exactly like the real thing.

Fun. That's what the games are about right? I'm actually having fun. Something I didn't think was possible in virtual basketball land. I could win, I could lose in my experience with the other game a few years back, and I never really felt like I had that much of an impact on the outcome. Wins didn't feel rewarding. Loses undeserved because I couldn't stop a Tracy McGrady dunk contest. Steve Nash could've missed 5 wide open 3's and maybe that was the reason. This game will reward you for getting open. This game acknowledges that Amare Stoudemire will absolutely hit an open 16-foot jump shot. It's things like this, that say "make it look like what you know to be true, and we'll give you the bucket." I have fun trying to replicate what I see on TV. I didn't have fun on all games of the past - trying to dunk or layup on every possession because I know those will go in, while I was never sure a jump shot would go in. There's no strategy there other than a race.

I never thought I'd say this, but EA for the win.
Amen to this brotha..... I think it's close, and thats all we could ask for as gamers. There is an alternative no matter which appeals to you. But I tend to disagree that 2k has the edge. GAMEPLAY TRUMPS PRESENTATION!

this... 2k just sounds and feels dry. In a way thats very realistic, cuz tons of real nba games have those lulls, but for my gaming, boring.
