Re: Ask The Devs a Question Thread II
I totally agree with you. You are right on the money there
I'm just hoping that the EA won't let us down again (if they haven't been doing so.)
Last year, I used to post up questions regarding some issues about Live 09 and like you said, only very few questions got answered and most of the other questions got completely ignored.
It seemed that the EA developers would only respond to questions that they actually wanted to answer NOT the questions that most ppl here would like to know answers to.
Just curious why certain questions get answered, and others don't? I'd think a question about the potential for another patch is a legit question...And it's not only being asked here, it seems to be a common request in a few other threads. It'd be a gracious gesture to at least address that issue, given the last patch has brought an obvious mixed bag of feelings. It's the least a developer or producer could do at this point.
Edit: I'm not trying to be sarcastic and I understand not all questions are worth the time to answer, but the thread is "ask a developer a question" and it's 17 pages long, filled with questions, and I count maybe 6 answers provided by Live reps...You guys had a solid open line of communication, up until 10/6.Comment

Re: Ask The Devs a Question Thread II
Did the Nuggets' PA Announcer get changed in the patch? I just played a DS game against the Jazz and the unique "MELO ... FOR 2" call that the PA guy makes in Denver is gone, and is replaced by some generic-sounding guy.Currently Playing:

Re: Ask The Devs a Question Thread II
Could you guys please patch in quick subs for team play? It is annoying almost every random user that I mention it too. It really slows down the game, and people quit the game pause after pause. You guys should also remove the auto sub feature in team play. Every 4-5 whistles, they will just bring the starters back in. It completely defeats the purpose of the substitution at that point.
On a side not, could you please explain how the "Hair Updates" will work this season? thanks!Comment

Re: Ask The Devs a Question Thread II
I think it has been addressed by EA in another thread earlier that it will be out Monday night do to some issues that popped up. Don't hold me to it though. Enjoy it when it comes because I feel it is a pretty good update. Peace!!!!The poster formerly know as "FLIGHTWHITE"Comment

Re: Ask The Devs a Question Thread II
What JSky is talking about is not the patch, its the updated rosters that should eliminate the glitch/bug with random players that has them turning invisible or becoming a bunch of body parts. That was supposed to be released Friday and now its looking like Monday Night.Comment

The PS3 patch comes out when Sony puts it out. If the devs give you a date its passing what they've been told.

Re: Ask The Devs a Question Thread II
My only real problem with Live is the passing. Live's passing feels pretty slow and sluggish. Live's passers don't have great "awareness" of passing angles and the importance of using an "overhead lob pass" to get the ball over a defender or crowd of defenders.
Rather than throw a lob pass over the defenders as he should, the passer will usually throw a "line drive pass" or a bounce pass that goes directly into the hands of the defense and it gets stolen. So basically pass animation AI needs to be improved so the game better recognizes when it is appropriate to use a overhead "high lob pass" that goes over the defenders' heads so it won't get stolen.
Also - Icon passing is too slow. The passes feel "floaty" and don't seem quick enough. there is also a delay after you release the icon button before the player makes the pass. This just makes the passing sluggish and unresponsive.
Also, in regards to "offball receiver control" there is a long delay after you hold down the icon button before you actually take control of the player. Please increase the responsiveness of the button press, so that as soon as I hold down the button, the offball receiver control INSTANTLY kicks in.
I think passing with off ball receiver control should work more like 2k's lead passing...by this I mean that when you use lead passing, the receiver will make a quick, strong cut (not a slow one) and he will keep moving as he catches the ball (even taking a few extra steps in that direction for good measure and to ensure the continuation of the intended cut).
Overall, when controlling offball receivers, they also just move too slowly - so slowly that you can't really get them open anyways. When controlling an offball receiver, he should move with more urgency, like he is really trying to lose his defender.
Another problem is pass receiving. The problem is that cutting players will stop to catch passes rather than catching the pass on the move and continuing their cut trajectory.
This really kills the gameplay. For example, you will have a teammate who is cutting to the hoop for a layup and you will pass to him, but as soon as you pass, the receiver will stop dead in his tracks as he catches the ball, and the scoring opportunity is killed. This happens with normal icon passing as well as when you pass to a guy who you are controlling with offball receiver control. It is especially annoying when you use offball receiver control to make a guy cut, only to see him stop cutting when you pass him the ball. This pretty much defeats the purpose of offball receiver control because you can't really get the receiver open if he stops moving to catch a pass.
As a default, the players should be programmed to continue running in that direction after they catch a pass while cutting. There is never a situation where you would want a player to stop cutting after catching the pass, so just make it automatic for him to continue running for at least 2 or 3 steps.
Above I mentioned that Live's passers don't use proper pass animations, but the receivers also don't move to create better pass angles. Receivers should have better AI awareness of passing angles, so they will move to the best spot for you to get a clean pass to them.
A few final nit picks. Live's post game is pretty limited. I think Live should just copy 2k's post game, because 2k's post game is pretty deep and allows you to pull off almost any post move you can think of.
Another area that needs improvement - shot blocking and rebounding. These animations just need to be tuned for next year.
Steal animations also need to be improved so that when you hit the steal button, your player will "lunge" toward the ball rather than just standing in place and swatting his armLast edited by blues rocker; 11-01-2009, 08:15 PM.Comment
