The ratings were far too high for way too many players. The Knicks should not play defense like the Cavs
That's why the entire physics system is BS. The game doesn't respect players strength, height, body build and so forth.

The interesting thing today was while playing with Dwight I got called for two offensive foul calls in a row while posting up. Felt like I was in the Charlotte series. lol

I totally agree it is utter garbage.. not just player attributes either, it affects alot of the game

I've seen defensive fouls in the post up but only after the massive editing. Otherwise you always get the offensive foul and never know why. The defensive player is like glued to you like a puppet

Re: Avoiding All Star Body Contact

The game out of the box can be very frustrating dre. Sometimes I feel like plays are predetermined in some way. On a pump fake where I get the defender in the air, I try to go by but he is magically glued to me from mid air form. Or he blocks it somehow if I try to shoot while he is coming down. They wanted to make this game a lot harder to get into the paint and they did that but at the same time they made it frustrating to the user. The lack of user control when driving is very frustrating. It makes usually a player like Rondo useless because on a play where you want to collapse the defense he gets glued to a animation and can't kick out. This leads to a strip, a bad shot where you didn't want one or a reset on the play. I really hope this is a priority for them because the game at times feels really good. Problem is these things are a huge part of the game and they always happen.

The other part of the problem is point guards attack way too much. Andre Miller should not be going at Dwight just because I sag off on him as my user controlled PG and he's able to get by me since for the user there really is no animation to man up. I never really feel like I have ability to man up on my guy and the AI just at times sees me as a cardboard obstacle and goes by me. Many times I feel like I have to play another position on defense except PG for this reason. There needs to be a better system that respects these attributes and it needs to be balanced.

Its the recovery rating, which is way too high, plus the on ball defense and that kills it.

But it was already hard to get in there in Live 09. They removed alot of animations like the charge animation, the ones where they stand there and you have to shoot and adjusted shot over there kinda like in 2k. Go look at the video I made for Live 09, you'll see what im talking about

They screwed this up, the chest bumping, the foot planting gone.... all of that is what makes this game one frustrating mess. I dont see how anyone can play this game unedited.

          Agreed man, cheap physics..

If you up the ball handlers hands on the perimeter and hands in the paint ratings, then they wont get stripped so easily.

True enough and the bad part is if you step up to contest, they suck you into that WACk chest bump animation, most of the times if you're eating the CPU up they'll use that on you as a foul.

You can to a degree. You just have to prevent the guy from driving by bumping him.. they did however change the way you play on ball D from Live 09 so its like the guy can slip right by you and you cant do anything about it.

It feels really cheap. Your best chance is to use edited rosters... strong on ball defenders will do their jobs, and guys who cant dribble will get stripped or whatever.

Check out the changes I made although they help, the game is as you said frustrating

Yeah, I noticed! I ultimately failed at getting rid of the patches' effect on the game, but I did find that the game isn't as broke as we may have thought, it's just poorly tuned!!! I remember seeing a comment similar to that from Mike Wang when he first got there. He said like:..it was a pretty good game under the hood but it just needed... I approached it as they would have very little time to write actual new code so they had to have "tuned" the game or basically adjusted the ratings and their effects under the hood. I found this theory was supported because different things I tried made new animations show up.

Try it once, just take 2 teams you've just played a game with all the crazy contact stuff and global edit all players "OBD" rating by +15 and replay that same game. It'll go a long way towards fixing that problem, it's just that the game has so many problems and the amount of things you have at your disposal to adjust is limited. Also if you try what I mentioned about the fg sliders you'll see that the star players will become the focus but without lowering the shot block, and shock alter sliders the fg% will be a little low. If you lower user's and cpu's slider that part will be fixed. Upping the offensive awareness rating by +10 made the CPU really make smart passes that made it really difficult to defend, they always found the open man.

There were a number of things that made particular aspects better but I couldn't ever get it to pre-patch feel and flow. I am holding on to the thought that the dev's tend to listen to the wrong people when responding to customer input in the game. Just looking at the things that they adjusted with the patches makes me think the voices they heard the loudest were from people who couldn't play. At any rate I think most guys here were saying the games is really good out of the box now ad a post up button and a few minor tweaks but they changed the entire feel of the game. Pre-patch I could get a different game and tell the differences between every team I played (something else I remember Mike W. mentioning as a goal during development), now every game is the same.

I'm no Mike Wang disciple who now thinks the game is doomed but I do think that if you allow guys that know more about videogames than they do actual basketball to make gameplay decisions that you will always fail with this crowd because most folks here want sim! Those decision makers could be dev's or fans/users they're attempting to be loyal too. I see they are looking for more user input but they should put more emphasis on qualified input! Sorry about the rant!

It isnt insane to say that NBA Live 09 is the better game. Someone can make that arguement and not sound like a loon.

The onball D IMO was better in 09, and the DNA hotzones, I absolutely loved.

But a lot of things about Live 09 were flat better. The auto sub logic, the way players adjusted to being doubled, the pick and roll control layout, were better IMO.

That's my biggest problem with this year's EA hoops games. Granted I spent more time w/ NCAA than NBA Live but the transition from one animation to another is GARBAGE. I could get by my man, go into the animation where they take 2 steps and jump, meet contact, plant both feet on the ground and go up into another animation.

I was thinking about picking 09 up for cheap. Does anyone have up to date rosters for 09?

dna still updates in 09 but the dribbling in 10 and a few other things are much bettter...

There are just alot of things gameplay wise in 09 makes you scratch your head alot wondering why even remove this

I've been saying this for quite a while now. I think I started preaching this around November.

And if some have their way, it won't change any time soon. Sad.

All I know is it's not what I think they should be doing, and hopefully they address it this year. It's artificial and needs to go.

All I know is it's not what I think they should be doing, and hopefully they address it this year. It's artificial and needs to go.
That I agree 100% with! Some other things that are similar are:

                            1. When you jump for rebound or block but don't succeed you're force to stand there during a brief intermission (LOL) while the CPU continues to play.

                            2. When you first switch onto a user controlled defender there's a delay before you can move. Like when you're defending a man at the 3 point line, he beats you off the bounce so you switch to your center to protect the paint but before you can move the offensive player is already in an "and-1" animation

                            3. Having the inertia of a Mack Truck and at the same time accelerating like a
Ferrari 430. I know those supposed to be contradictory but in Live 10 I see it all the time. I am standing near the side line. I call for a pick I attempt to ease around it but either I accelerate to full speed so fast that I can't slow down or a I weigh a few thousand tons and just can't stop before stepping out of bounds all in about 3-4 feet of space.

                            4. Getting stuck to picks even though I'm moving in the opposite direction of the one in which the pick is set.

Sorry to get off topic just frustrated!!!

                              Yup, you're right loadleft

but to address that #2, thats a problem with the umm LOKO motion

It makes no sense to have to make a hard cut (which is basically a delay in you moving) and once you do, forget it, its that wack chest bump.

There is another one where the cpu walks into the post where you cant stop it since hes walking, they wont let you rip him... he just jumps and you do that crash in the air animation like you jumped to foul the crap out of him as he tries to bend sideways with the ball in both hands. Think about it and you'll know what im talking about. Its a cheap foul and one you cant avoid because its canned.

I gave up on All-Star and higher very early on. This issue is a disaster in this game and probably my biggest complaint. No idea why this was changed in 09.

I also think the rotations on All-Star and up got worse with the patch.
