Re: Ask the devs : Controls (Offense and Defense)
In one of the demonstration videos, they did say there is a post-up button this year IIRC. And didn't they patch in a post-up button last year?Comment

Re: Ask the devs : Controls (Offense and Defense)
Three questions about blocking:
Can the user influence the direction which the ball will go after a successful block?
Can the user decide how much power the player will use when going for a block? (IE Howard swatting shots to the 15 row)
Can you pin the ball to the glass on certain situations when blocking?Comment

Re: Ask the devs : Controls (Offense and Defense)
Thanks for the support reanimator, i can't tell you how appreciative we are:
1 - Being that pretty much everything sounds as if it is tied to the sticks, what will the face buttons be used for?
2 - One of the best feelings last year was controlling your intended receiver with the right stick to keep the flow of the offense and court spacing going. Will this still be possible just pressing a different button? Or which button?
3 - How do alley-oops work now? Are those played out animations or are we able to control the dunker and adjust the dunk to a windmill or reverse? (Think this video:
<object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/uMMSarmPnFc&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/uMMSarmPnFc&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>
or...the one where he does a reverse on the other side of the rim (couldn't find a vid of it)Comment

Re: Ask the devs : Controls (Offense and Defense)
It was on the right bumper in the build I played.
It's gone.
Yes and the post up button was the left bumper. It doubles as a protect ball toggle so once you initiate contact with the defender, you can attempt to back him down.Comment

Re: Ask the devs : Controls (Offense and Defense)
On Pick and Roll plays, does the screener actually set a solid screen? I found it hard to use a screen in '10 because the screener was always moving and wasn't in a solid position.
Is the defensive strategy for a pick and roll (hedge, protect basket, switch) recognized by the CPU? I would constantly changed the defensive strategy to pick and rolls in a game in '10 to find out the CPU never utilized my strategy and continued to lay back and leave the ball handler open.Comment

Re: Ask the devs : Controls (Offense and Defense)
One of the big changes is how physics plays a role. When you are in a post battle on either side of the ball you can press the left stick towards your opponent and start to push him. This becomes a bit of a tug of war kind of game, where strength plays a big role.
All the moves have been put onto a combination of the left/right sticks to match with the rest of the game. Spin moves, drop step, hook shot, etc.
We've also got new defensive controls which I'd prefer to hold off on discussing until they are actually in the game. Don't want to mislead you guys if they don't pan out.Comment

Re: Ask the devs : Controls (Offense and Defense)
Someone else answered the first part, but for the second part, to call for a screen you tap "A" (360) or "X" (ps3) to get your teammate to set the screen. He will continue to do so until the screen has been successfully or you tap "A" again.it is my understanding that the left trigger is used for controlling euros and such. so how will we handle freestyle passing.
also how will we call for picks this year. due the change in control live 10 left the player with the task of holding the b button to handle the duration of the screen. this made it so we could not crossover toward the screen.
in addition the new shooting mechanic calls for the right stick. therefore the pick and role control has to be changed.
suggestion only.
So it's a toggle mechanism this year, freeing up your right hand to dribble using the stick.Comment

Re: Ask the devs : Controls (Offense and Defense)
1. Into the stands, no. But you will have hustle plays and diving for the ball, but the player will not interact with the fans or score table. Next year.I have a couple more questions and thanks by the way for answering my other questions...you guys are definitely on the right track I believe, but I was curious since we are talking about controls in this thread.....
1 Will we be able to dive for a loose balls in the stands? - if the ball goes out of bounds into the stands/players bench will we have the invisible force field stopping us?
2 when we attemp layups from behind the basket will the animations be improved and not look like a robot stuck in one direction? will the moves under the basket look more realistic, to the point the computer makes the appropriate adjustment?
3 Will there be handchekcing in this years version?
4 When we foul this year is there going to be regular and hard fouls at our disposal?
2. Should look better, yes. We have new logic and some new anims.
3. Called for fouls? No. Light hand checking when the guy is backing you down? Yes.
4. No hard fouls that I am aware of.Comment

Re: Ask the devs : Controls (Offense and Defense)
The alternate button scheme has not been finalized so I can't answer you. Sorry.Basic question. With the alternate button scheme. Will shoot be (on the 360) X like in 2k/Live 10, or B like every other EA BBall game in existence.
That is seemingly minor but I actually couldnt play Live 10 at all because of the button switch. Can we get an option to customize our control layouts like the PS2 games?Comment

Re: Ask the devs : Controls (Offense and Defense)
As I mentioned in an other reply, setting a screen will be a toggle control using the A/X button.
It leaves your hand free to do dribble moves.Comment
