    Suction, Control, and Animations

I know some of you guys ignored this, but in light of our discussions this week... seems like Live 08 was further down the road than previously thought in concept?

Jumpers were generic among other issues but was it really best to get away from this?

No suction, sig moves, more noticeable graphics and control, thumb stick up to shoot ft's... it was all there

Now did you buy this game or dismiss it as something that couldnt have been worked with?

Then they have no suction either... skip to about 4:20..thats where the game starts

Never played or owned Live 08 but based on that last video it had better rim physics than 09, 10 or Elite.

Okay, so what you're asking is if we didn't think Live 08 was any good then why are we hyped and defending Elite?

If that's the point your trying to get across then, I'd say you have a good point. Because besides the demo and maybe a rental I never touched Live 08.

Maybe if they stuck with it and kept improving Live 08 we wouldn't be having this conversation right now. And we would have a Live game much closer to the competition in terms of visuals and authenticity.

I got to say though, I'm still interested to see where they take Elite and 'RTP'. And boy do I wish they still had those Signature moves. Especially the Shaq hook, so we wouldn't have to worry about him shooting fade away's from the post.

          LOL!

I remember when me NBA Live King from NLSC edited the hell out of that game.

There were still some issues no doubt but it was a fun game after like 2000 hours of editing........

If i'm not mistaken that was the game with best footplanting installed in it. In one of those videos that move by Manu was pretty sick. Looked outstanding which makes it hard to believe they (EA) still haven't progressed in terms of animations from 08 to Elite 11.

The fade away jumpers in that game looked really good... i didn't like the down/up motion to shoot free-throws, it should've just been up.

Wow, that looks wayy better than elite..mix that game with live 10, and you've got a great game imo..alot of signature stuff in that game.

That spin by Manu was perfect. It does make you wonder. After Live 06 and 07 I gave up on the series. Didn't play 08 or 09 at all. I'm surprised they could manage something so beautiful after those former debacles but then I look at the many other clumsy animations and I realize it was still a work in progress.

It was a WIP... but thats just it... by now there would've or should've been major progress

For instance you can tell who is who on the floor, but this year you cannot.

                    Nice vid jaosming btw

They understood things in concept though, it was just never followed through on and eventually leads us to today.

See the bumping and collisions in this video? If I told you it was rtp would you believe me?

Sure, why not lol. It reminds me of the run up to Live 2007. All the talk about footplanting but few actually noted that compared to Live 2005 the next gen version of Live 2006 already had a ton of footplanting but 2005 was still a better game. So I wasn't sold on Live 07 because they were selling me something that didn't make a difference when they gave it to me last year. With physics its kinda the same way. RTP needs to be the icing not the cake. Now it we are talking about something like Euphoria that has complex realtime animations that bend, move, and adjust to a physics engine then it can be the cake but thats a tough commitment. Thing is EA could sell it so much better than Naturalmotion. EA would sell "infinite animations"!!

Although this game may look better than 11 from an animation standpoint, it played terribly. Shooting was not dependent on the users input, and zone defense was way overpowered, as two examples. If Elite doesn't play better than this game then rtp and the new control system won't even matter lol.

I played a lot of that game and only wish they would have just added more realistic animations and knocked out a few bugs. But the constant changes year after year jjust kept making them start over and over again.

                            I loved Dirk's fadeaway in Live 08
