REAL TIME PHSYICS (the Ugly Duckling)

posted straight from the ea site. i reposted this because i've seen to many replies, posts, threads. talking about Animations not looking good, graphics taking a hit, etc. i tried to remind you guys you cant be mad at EA now. they TOLD us this. the DEVS told us this would happen.

in addition for the guys that keep saying "i cant see any real time physics in these videos" the answer is You're not really going to. real time physics vs canned animations its not something you see. its something you Feel while you actually play the game. videos will not do RTp any justice. so please stop asking it to. you have to "PLAY" the game first to make your decision if you like this idea or not. this is why this is the first time ever you heard EA telling you "wait until the demo comes out" they've never marketed on the DEMO. it was always great vids and more cute little modes or add ons. thats it.

so here goes Ea's own words again. READ it before you guys make another post about these videos that were recently released.

    The Ugly Duckling
One thing I want to be very clear about is that we did not integrate Real Physics into NBA ELITE 11 as a gimmick or as eye candy. We were very deliberate about where we chose to apply physics and to what degree. Every step of the way our goal was to improve the gameplay experience and the feel of the game. At times our animation visual quality may have taken a slight hit in favor of a better feel or more dynamic response. This tradeoff is deliberate.
In a video, a two man mocap animation is always going to look better than a dynamic, physically driven animation because it can be presented in the exact same context in which it was captured. When things change and the situation is different every time, that’s where our system shines. Until you actually play the game and feel the controls and the way the game responds to physics you will not be able to appreciate the tradeoffs we’ve made.
exhibit A^^^^. DO NOT PASS JUDGEMENT UNTIL YOU PLAY THE DEMO. IF IT STILL SUCKS TO YOU. BY ALL MEANS PICK UP ANOTHER GAME. THE BEAUTY OF HOOP GAMES WE STILL HAVE MORE THEN ONE CHOICE FOR A PRO SPORT GAME. believe me, if it sucks. i will be playing that other game instead. but if it doesnt. EA Just may have regained my support. and i will still be playing that other game lol. i will have both just like last year. but this time i will be playing both regularly unless one of them forces me to stop playing the other. thats when you will know if that RTP has changed the game in its first year with hoop.

I said a while back that people were going to expect a LOT out of "real time physics". People were expecting much more than was coming. Color me not surprised. And Joe Public that doesn't spend all day on OS will be expecting to SEE something. "Feeling" it is not going to fly. But, hey, what do I know...

Funny how you didn't highlight the word "slight". So what would you tell the diehard EA fans that believe the game took a MAJOR hit visually. But graphics are pretty subjective. One person "Awesomeness" is another person's "Ehh".

of course i didnt highlight slight. why would i, when all the responses would amt to "it took a major hit". no reason to get that going. the only reason i made the thread was to remind people what RTP was, and to remind people what EA told us about the sacrafice in the visual dept.

if people pay attention they would stop making thread after thread complaining about the visuals. even the 2k fans that come in here just to find something negative to say. EA didn't spring this on us. they told us up front. the devs kept saying it. now people are acting like they didnt know. you wont know if the RTP thing worked until you actually play it. not some video. play the demo. then make your decision.

you speak as if people owe EA something. if they don't like it, they don't like it.

if somebody sees a car that looks like bad, nobody expects them to testdrive it. if somebody sees a couch that looks funny, nobody expects them to take it home and sit on it first before they can make a decision. but for whatever reason, this type of stuff gets thrown out the window with Elite. some people place a lot of value on visuals. if that's their thing, then that's their thing

this past week in one of my business classes, our lesson was about companies who spend so much time hyping up features that differentiate their product from competitors that they ignore the wants of customers. i feel like this is whats goin on for a lot of people in regard to Elite. certain people just don't care like that. myself being one of them. i want a nice blend of both sides and Elite isnt really stacking up on that demand. you can't simulate basketball (at least not well) if it doesnt look like basketball. visuals should never be put on the back burner when looking to replicate a spectator sport.

Maybe if I EA wants us to judge the game by the demo they should at least let us know when we will have said demo, because the longer they wait to release it the more they are hurting their own cause

Its called fixing something that's broken, at least in the eyes of the developers. Many believe live 10 wasn't broken, clearly the developers did.

Good post. I have said that i doubt i will buy this game for at least this year but I do plan on playing the demo before I totally give up on it and I don't normally download demo's. But for this game I am planning on it to see what it play like as well as looks.

it doesn't matter if i know how to make games or not. that's not my role in all of this. i'm just letting it be known what it'll take for me to take this franchise seriously. if EA intends to put the stuff i value on the back burner, then w/e. i'll just keep my $60 and keep it moving

personally, i don't give a **** whether you "care" or not. i never solicited an opinion about what anybody thinks about where i put my money, so im not even sure what ur talking about

maybe you should ask the threadstarter why he "cares" so much about other people's relationship to this game
