How good a sim is Live now?(other threads didn't cover it good enough)

I know there's a huge list of sliders and by tweaking them you can apparently get statistical realism. Or so I hope.

But, that doesn't equate realism. First the simmed stats. I know you can set the simmed games' quarter length but so could you in ID 2003 and some stats were way off. How is it in Live 2004? Then what about the AI? Just what does the AI do on the court? Does it adjust tactics during games, use its stars, does playing different teams feel like playing different teams? Do guards and small forwards get rebounds realistically? How does the CPU play on offense, is it aware of time and current score, is it able to recognise weaknesses in your defense and take advantage? In a similar fashion, how smart is the CPU on defense? Just generally, if you have found yourself a decent set of sliders, how sim (aka fun) is the game?

Oh yeah, if someone has gotten to the off-season already, is the free agent AI as bad as IGN says it is. According to IGN the CPU doesn't sign star free agents even if they were able to and thus you can sign them for minimun salaries and form a super team. Or if you don't sign them, NBA stars are sitting in the free agency pool. Please tell me this isn't the case, that it's just IGN again impersonating sports reviewers.

Damn, that's a lot of questions. Anyway, I have ID 2003 and I was looking forward to ID 2004. But now that Live is apparently a sim and it has stuff like separate shoot buttons and the pro hop among other things I'm interested. ID doesn't seem to have made some of those advances that I was hoping they had. Now I'm just gonna buy whichever is the better simulation.

I'll just say one thing ...u know a game is a great simulation of real basketball when any possible scenario that can happen in real life ball can actually happen in the game. Thats Live this year.

Teams in live play like their real life counterparts.

Dallas goes run and gun. SA goes Duncan inside and then out, etc.........

The CPU AI plays like that as well as your teams CPU controlled players. Many times youll see your teammates, if you're Dallas for example, try to run and run and run and fast break non stop. YOu may be Steve Nash and may not want that. your CPU players attempt to play like their real life selfs with or without your support. I hope you get what im saying

Thanks, I get you both. I'm just a little cautious to the hype now cause last year this place was crazy on ID and it wasn't as good as people said. Could you go a little more into detail?

<hr /></blockquote><font class="post">Actually, I don't see the hype. I see only a hand full of us actually loving the game. I think people are still turned off by the poor effort of Live 2003. Now, they pop Live 2004 in and play on default and the game is still pretty fast and decide it's just like last year. They're not even considering the fact that EA gave us a buttload of sliders to adjust the game to your liking. So far, I just think Live has been given a bad rap. I'm just interested to read about ESPN's review by these gaming sites next week. I already forked over $50 for it too, so I'll get to try that one as well.

Ack, I guess my post didn't go through.

CPU defense is amazing. In the last few minutes, the computer will try everything and anything to win the game.

Right now, without a doubt if you had to choose between Live and ID get Live. ID just doesn't look drastically improved at all. Just lemme know if you neeed to know anything else about the game.
