For once I actually agree with jmood, the Lebron in Live looks nothing like him. Last year, OS had a NBA Live vs. 2K3 vs. ID player comparison and 2K3 destroyed Live and ID hands down. It looks to be the same this year. But it still wont stop me from enjoying the game. I'm just happy video games actually capture a players likeness. I can go back to the NES days when everyone on the court looked the same and nobody had names.

Very true. The point of this post wasn't to bash LIVEs grpahics...bbut to ask why they are as they are.

I am not saying they are horrible...but why do the faces looked like a dropped pie for example? Ie, if you drop a pie...it sort of squashes inwards, looks disrupted, but you still know it's a pie.

In LIVE...the faces look like that. The noses looked crushed, the eyes look wrong. Iverson in that LIVE grab looks like Iverson...about 3 days after he's had a broken nose or something.

As stated originally, LIVE's artists aren't amateurs...so why is that kind of face the end result of their work?

If I went up to a scetch artist and paid him $20 to do me a sketch of Iverson / Kenyon etc...and he gave me the faces in LIVE, i'd laugh and hand it back.

And yet EA, with all their money / artists etc...that's the best they come up with?

It just seems strange...and I'm presuming theres a reason that someone with better knowledge of art / graphics etc than myself can explain?

My brother is 13 and can draw a really good looking picture of iverson. I don't see why ea continues to use these outdated graphics in all of their games. They all look like cartoons. At least in nba street it's not trying to be realistic so the faces don't matter but the people in live look horrible.

Re: Time for LIVE to step up the graphics

I don't think those photos really do justice.

When I mentioned how dead on LeBron looks in Live, I was talking about the moving heads in the roster screens.

I have not really taken the time to look at LeBron's face in game. I don't know if they are different, but from what I've seen (again only the moving heads) LeBron looks exactly like him.

(ESPN also does a magnificent job on LeBron's face.)
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

"You'll not find more penny-wise/pound-foolish behavior than in Major League Baseball." - Rob Neyer
