Same thing happened to Madden....06, 07, 08. IMO 08 was the first solid one. 09 actually felt complete. It happens. Fifa had a rough start on current gen too. Took a few years to get it right. Be patient guys....at least we have something basketball related released from EA while they continue to get better. I don't know about ya'll but I'm feeling good about the direction they are going after this trailer.

I promise OS has some pretty epic vet posters... it was good times around here in the past. Checking old threads would tell you alot.

May I present the answer to your question from our own WTF from 3 years ago

A plan is only good if you follow through, Live has never had the patience so their three year plan turns into a 1 year their sales fall they start over with a new development team and find the next new buzz word, wash, rinse, and repeat.

        Wow,

Again lol. Who wants to pay full price for a 3 year plan game, yikes. I think they will be lucky to get 50,000 sales now. EA get with Microsoft and bundle this game with a launch system. I recognize every game has a 3 year plan or long term plan but EA has no proof of following through with their plan so why would anyone trust them. The only thing that matters is those quarterly sales numbers and stock prices man. There isn't enough nostalgia of old live enough for me to justify buying their game on there promise. I can't believe this it is like Groundhog Day the movie over, and over, and over again.

Last time I heard EA use the dreaded '3 year plan' it was with Madden 13...we all know how 13 and 25 turned out...

If they're talking about a 3 year plan then they're basically admitting Live 14 isn't worth the full $60 USD asking price. It really should be 1/3x$60=$20 for every year until Live 17, unless of course they're not where they'd like to be by 2016, again.

Yeah 2K looks amazing....and you better believe its gonna be the first game I pop in my PS4 at launch but I truly believe this will be not only a good Live but the best Live ever released and seeing as 10 was possibly the best NBA Live game ever then why are we complaining. It's progress. So, I feel you on this statement.
I think i can safely say that most of us "haters" complain because we expect more from EA. Our childhood hero has to be better than all comers. You know what I'm saying?

I read somewhere that the nba wants them to full price their games. I don't know how true this rumor is considering that nba jam wasn't full priced initially.

Hey man. A three year plan is FINE as long as you are committed to it. And they have shown that they can't commit to them. They've done this, what? Three times before?

You make no sense. If it changes every year, how is it like Live? You don't even play the game, do how would you know? Keep 2K out of this discussion because you get tooled everytime. It's a battle you constantly start and lose. Enough already, dude. Geez!

well, to be honest. Ea was never the leader in the sim community in terms of basketball. I think without the internet, and backed behind a huge billion dollar empire, they were able to get away with it for a long time. Not to mention, 2k was hidden from the masses cause the first 3 were exclusive to DC. Its not an AAA title in their eyes, its a sports title. Essentially a cash grab. I read somewhere that initially EA didn't take fifa seriously, and there was a time PES was better than fifa, then they began to focus on improving it and now its a solidified earner for them. Social media, the [de]value of the dollar. won't allow mediocrity anymore. When people buy full price games, they expect a full experience.

I can believe that. Lower price means lower royalties for the league.

You're forgetting the days before Dreamcast. It was Jam to get your arcade fix and EA to get your 5 v 5. Double Dribble had its time to shine, but it was Live otherwise. NBA 2k2 showed up to compete directly, but that version was rushed and a mess. Same for NFL 2K2. VC had it rough that year. But the writing was on the wall. EA was going to have to step it up. They did with FIFA (PES fell off more than EA stepped up). and NHL (Kush exploded leaving a short handed VC to try to salvage two titles). I don't know what happened with Madden and Live. Good for EA that they could get in bed with the NFL. No such luck with the NBA, thankfully.

By the way, soccer isn't my thing, but I hear that

Rushed? Me thinks not. Just not marketed as well.

2k has consistently outranked Live in every game they produced.

I don't count days before dreamcast. That's obviously arcade. Sim to me came in when 3d was possible in gaming and when you could mimic 5 on 5 play. I need to find that fifa article. it was an article hyping up fifa before a release, but they were how they turned around the ship, etc. I believe they have this attitude with Live. Decent is good enough..until now and they are scrambling to put something together. Showing panic everywhere. Champagn and Campaignin for 14 years can do that to you lol

edit: youre right. forgot about ps1 and so forth

I'd rather have a game that actually improves year to year, rather than "three year plans" that result in unmarketable messes and reboots every year.

Besides, don't you want games to be more like Live if its your gold standard? What are you hating on 2K for then?

Can't the guy who made Live 10 the greatest controlling Live in forever apply his ideas to other games he works on? Why do his contributions get written off and downplayed through a revisionist lens just because he doesn't work for EA anymore?

Do you realize that everything that you write twists reality to fit a bizarre narrative of EA=good, 2K=bad? What has 2K done to you except make games you can actually play? What has EA done to deserve your undying and blind loyalty except break promises and fail at shipping titles?

Anyway, I'm fine with 3 year plans. Just wake me up in 3 years when you actually follow through. Don't ask me to buy a product now because the next one will be better. Not good, not done, no buy.

I did. It's not that hard. Just play the better looking and playing game.

Just because you liked the epicness that was Live 95 20 years ago doesn't mean you owe any loyalty to a publisher or a brand name that doesn't give you the better product. And there's no reason to convince yourself it's better if its fraught with flaws just because "EA" is printed on the cover. Live is not your girlfriend, wife, mother, or child. There's not much to be gained by willful self deception in this case (or most cases).

It's precisely this kind of undeserved loyalty that enables EA to profit through mediocrity. You will never help the product get better by rewarding them just for printing "Live" on the box. In fact, do this and you guarantee that you stall the brand's progress. EA execs are counting on your mindset and misplaced loyalty, and are expecting you to reward them for poor execution.

                                It's time to disappoint them.
