Keep that 1% of hope left alive

By now we also know theres no roster editing in the game.
And no CPU trades in Franchise mode.
No draft prospect scouting in Franchise mode.
And also a random 90 ovrl rookie messing up the game.

I'm seeing a lot of people cancelling their pre-orders, people that were saying that they were going to buy the game for EA's amazing feat at producing a fun and really enjoyable gameplay experience. I dont necessarily blame them. I think we have been very active in this forum and in other media outlets voicing what we as consumers want from the game, for years. And we spend our hard earned money to buy it.

... But my point is, look what EA has accomplished already.

I was one of the few that bought NBA Live 14 when the new consoles came out. That was the worst purchase of my entire life. That was complete unplayable garbage.

But time passed and with each game NBA Live improved every year, I believe its fair to say that.

And then all of a sudden, after a big hiatus (again!), NBA Live 18 videos and the demo came out, out of nowhere. Look at the gameplay of this game. This is absolutely beautiful. It's really possible to give real arguments about how it plays better than the other game right now.
Keep in mind that, while Live was trying to rebuild itself for a 3rd time, 2k was on full auto mode, creating more depth on Franchise mode, Career mode, pro-am, MyTeam, MyGM, etc etc etc.

NBA Live managed to produce this level of gameplay from probably around 15-20% the budget size of 2k. Managed to build a career mode in The One that, in my opinion, is already a more fun and more interesting approach to a career mode than the other game as well.

Now, look at the demo. The dudes updated the demo like 3 times (I'm gonna repeat, the dudes UPDATED A DEMO) to improve the gameplay and user experience through OUR feedback. They improved it and made it more appealing to us, listening to our thoughts.

I know that roster editing and franchise mode may not eventually be improved THIS year. I believe it wont, I believe it will be the focus of next years game...

But the bottom line is, I believe this game and these dev's deserve our support. Have faith in them, have faith in this game, SUPPORT IT.
Pre-order it, buy it later for 10 bucks, whatever you do, support.

Because at the end of the day, if live dies again for good, there will be no competition, there will be no alternative, no real incentive for the other game to top itself, and thats only a lost for us, consumers and sports gaming lovers.

I dont know if this is worth a thread of its own, but I really wanted to give my 2 cents on this current situation

You said exactly what i have been saying about live 18. but if you're truly a franchise only guy. there is no reason for you to purchase live at all. for me..I already got the preorder because I understood exactly what you said above and I'm a my career/The one type of gamer now. I havent played franchise mode in years. That use to be my favorite mode.

I kind of understand the sentiment, but EA is no charity.

All that matters when it comes to my dollars is the final product that I can play today (well Friday).

This year's iteration will only get my EA Access support.

I agree that the quality is trending up, at least in the areas where Live tries to compete.

Yea but 2k will always take care of their fanbase. They don't make squat extra off their MyGM and MyLeague modes for franchise and every year they go leaps and bounds above what they potentially could do, and take care of their offline gamers.

They did this even when Live wasn't releasing their game.

They honestly don't need competition. They'll keep improving.

I preordered both Live 18 and 2k this year so I'll be playing and enjoying both for different modes.

Thought it was confirmed that the demo was at least 2 months old. Wouldnt be hard to patch but I do like what they did.

Flip side to that, release a bare bones demo, and patch to show the people the work we have done. Tin foil hat theory.

Its a good start. Plays a decent brand of sim basketball.

I will support but the ea silent treatment is not helping.

At what point will you guys stop putting up with a barebones game? Not trying to ruin anyone's fun, but a game made by a major company like ea shouldn't be releasing games lacking features like this, and I see the same comments that I saw for the other next gen live games from people trying to justify buying a barebones game year after year.

I don't even understand what's going on around here lol. Why does anyone have the right to tell me how I feel about purchasing a video game regardless of what side I'm on.

Shoving money out for moral support is not an option. This company screws its customers over and over and you are asking people to give them a reprieve? EA need to switch their developers because it's not working for Madden or Live!!!

If I was to make a list of my top 50 video games of all time EA published or made probably half of them. Not really on board with feeling screwed over by a company that has given me that much enjoyment but to each their own.

Well, the game will never get better when guys like you are in a state of denial. Yes, I have EA games from the past that I found enjoyment out of, but most of those games were from the 90's.
I still have purchased some of their games, however it's always something wrong with their games!

Man all I'm saying is why give them excuses for not putting out grade A products from the beginning of the release. With today's technology there shouldn't be short comings like no roster editing, etc...
EA is a Billion dollar company with more resources than 2k, etc.. but every game they've released on the PS4 or Xbox1 there have been major issues. ( I fully understand every game has glitches, etc...)
The major problem is not enough competition!!

The whole EA evil empire notion is nonsense. EA has been losing money on the live franchise for a while now. They could easily cut their loses and quit it. 2k had the grossest example of disrespect in recent memory with their last ditch money grab on MLB 2k13 that was exactly the same game as 2k12 with updated rosters.

You on one hand want competition but than on the other judge people because they see and respect the improvements and vision. Do you honestly and truthfully think EA don't care? I get that you'd like them to be better but you seem to think their net worth should equal quality of what they put out. In a perfect world ya ok I guess but I promise you they aren't trying to make inadequate games you dislike.

I know first hand how they operate because a close friend of mine worked as a producer for EA and then for 2k. I just want quality games!! That's it, it's simply!!!

I just want to be able to turn on a basketball game, play through a season (or franchise if no season), and have a good time. I don't care if rosters aren't perfect. I just prefer playing the game that feels better to ME. I've played the other game literally every year since it came out so this isn't some rose-tinted glasses comment. There were several week-long stretches last year where I couldn't even play the other game due to server issues. The "always online" nonsense even when playing an offline season is beyond absurd and that would be reason enough to move along but I happen to genuinely prefer Live this year.
