For $20 less than the competition, with a preorder, I can completely understand why people are buying this game.

Im still on the fence about purchasing the game. I'm going to see how much I get out of the EA Access trial version first. I do feel like EA is in a good place with this game. You are right that it is "barebones" in the sense that it is missing key components of others sports games (especially the other NBA game); however there were some fundamental aspects EA needed to focus on before they could worry about adding some of the smaller features and components. To me gameplay is the most important aspect of any game and with Live 18 EA is finally delivering an NBA game with good and fun gameplay. It's not perfect but they are now at a point where, going forward, they can work on adding more features and depth to other areas of the game instead of having to focus on getting the fundamentals right.

Next year I'm expecting a more fully featured product with more polished gameplay and graphics.
I disagree with calling it barebones being subjective. To me that is an unfortunate truth about where live 18 is, and why it's so far behind it's competitor. What is this, the 3rd..4th live game on next gen consoles, and yet it's still missing basic features? And this isn't a knock on anyone here personally, but I've seen posts like yours all the time, year after year, yet what happens when next year's game comes out? You have deservedly so annoyed consumers on one hand wondering why the hell basic features are gone with zero explanation why, and the other you have guys trying to either be optimistic, or justify buying an incomplete live game yet again. It's a cycle that I'm tired of seeing really, 'This year is a rebuilding year, but next year's game...watch out!'

This is ea, not some small indie developer with 4 or 5 guys, with an extremely small budget and limited experience. 'Concentrating on the gameplay' to me is an excuse for games being mediocre and incomplete. Some have tried to dismiss these issues as 'not being important', but they are a big deal to a lot of people. They also try to blame people for not supporting live, but in order to support something, ea has to do a better job of making people want to support it. This small forum is a perfect example of this. Most of us here are the exception, but it's almost like ea didn't want to sell the game at all. Instead, we're left here wondering what's in the game, what, if anything has improved, and why is info on it so hard to find? They could have done a much better job letting us know what was, and what still isn't in the game.

And why does ea have to just 'focus on the gameplay'? Could they do that and give us basic roster editing features? And by that I mean it's not like I"m asking for a free roam gta-like stuff like 2k18 has, I"m talking a decent cap, and the ability to move players and edit equipment. Personally, I think ea can, but won't...and it has nothing to do with concentrating on gameplay...but I'll just leave it at that.

I would give it a shot at $19.99. Not any higher for what we are getting.

              Double-Edged Sword

I've read most stances in this thread. I can legitimately understand both sides.

If I do NOT buy the game, I could be part of the reason why Live 18 is the last Live game ever. I'm part of the statistic that says I could live without NBA Live, I'm not buying until Live gets it right, I'm not buying because the NBA Live team simply doesn't listen to its consumers (i.e. no roster editing). This is also NOT the same as not buying Madden. Madden will be here to stay even if sales continue to dip. But we don't know the fate of NBA Live.

If I do buy the game, I could be part of the reason why there might be a Live 19, 20, etc. I'm part of the statistic that says I could live with NBA Live in its current form, I'll buy Live even with missing features, or I could be saying I see promise in NBA Live and they have earned my money so hopefully whatever 3 year plan they have will come to fruition. Whether or not Live is legitimate competition to 2k is debatable. There are some stuff that Live does better than the other game and that could push the other game to implement that stuff.

What does the magic 8 ball say?

What the heck does that mean? That doesn't help me make my decision.

The following (below quoted paragraphs) is my take on no roster editing, possibly no cpu trades and just missing stuff in general (i.e. play now WNBA, etc.). But I am conflicted as to whether or not I should take the plunge on NBA Live 18.

                Lol

all the feedback out there is the same pretty much. EA is looking like it's on to
something. There will be a live 19 even if no one buy so this one.

Think most folks are hoping Live 19 includes the frostbite engine with polished gameplay.

I caught in the same dilemma, to support or not. When? Preorder or wait a few months for a deep discount. I enjoy the demo but to many things are missing.

I want to support because in my mind the big wigs of the company gave the team an impossible task. Then the real side of me says this is F...ing EA. Could have poured millions into the game if they really wanted to compete. Maybe they released it because people play the mobile version. They did have 2 dev cycles.

Sad thing for me is the base of the game from a sim point of view, its damn good. Some like me(who care less what folks think) think it might be better base vs the comp(w/ Kinks worked out).

I want to buy but I think I discovered something new. I truly think mid range is broken. Easier shooting 3s with Rose and Shumpert vs mid range with any good shooter. To support or not is the question.

EA devs, was all good before we found out we missing the meat and potatoes of the game. Silence will not win folks over. 1% of hope(for me) depends on your goals/plan and communication.

Don't kill me for this. just my opinion, i know the "other game" has more features and bells and whistles, but god dang the courts in NBA Live and the arena sounds are so much more immersive.

I was watching a Lakers video and the court is just vivid and the arena feels so much more alive than the other game. from the "defense" chants to the organ music, so well done this year by the Live team. You feel like your actually in the arena. i know its minor in all this but it doesn't hurt that's for sure. i feel like the other game although really really good, the colors are bland and washed out for some reason. Once again just my opinion.

And kudos to Live for having TD Garden in the game! "Boston Celtics Arena" really?

That's one of the problems with companies getting exclusive licensing to various properties such as the naming rights, TD Garden. The other company didn't have much of a choice.

i think if youve been supporting a series for a decent amount of time, say anything past 2 or 3 years you have a pretty good understanding of the companys track record.

like you said im really enjoying The One, but im a "player locked" mode guy for the most part. i really FEEL for the customer who has supported Live for "x" amount of years and feels they are being ignored yet again.

i was really hoping that Live would cover all of my basketball gaming needs this year however it doesnt look like this will be the case.

as a frustrated gamer with the other series, as much as i dont wanna admit it - i gotta get both games ([emoji23] OMG! the roasting im gonna get from OS friends and my psn friends with as much crying as i have done thus far [emoji23] [emoji21][emoji26])

i think the difference for me is i have options to work around MOST of my displeasure with 2k, where as the frustrated Live crowd doesnt have that. Its simply play the other game or deal with Live in its current state and thats no fun.

feel for you guys - seriously
