That's not the reason.
After EA purchased the NFL rights, 2K overpaid for the MLB license to compensate and remain in the sports console race.
I was invited to the Fight Night Community event years ago and spoke directly to an EA spokesman about the MLB situation.
He told me that EA refused to pay what MLB was asking for an exclusive license.
He said it would have been impossible to make a profit.
Take-Two overpaid simply because they felt they had to after losing the bidding war for NFL rights.
This is why is suspect that EA refuses to resurrect their MVP series; out of spite.
(And most likely because MLB overvalues their licensing fees).
SCEA wishes they had the sales MVP enjoyed (on the PS2 alone, let alone the extra sales they received on the Xbox).
The Show is one of the best sports games produced today. But make no mistake, an updated MVP game would outsell The Show on the PS4.
And they'd probably double those sales on the XB1.
Regarding 2K, 2K13 had a lot of flaws, but it did a lot of things very well too.
The problem with that series was it didn't look as pretty and the animations were wonky.
I firmly believe that if 2K looked and moved as well as The Show, sales are a lot better and the series may still exist today.
The gameplay under the hood was solid.
