If you do a search pros and cons you will find some threads on that issue. There were a few when both games were released. -

Re: ID2003 vs NBA2k3!! Pros and Cons of each
Biggest con in ID 2003: Players are EXTREMELY reluctant to foul. It's the one thing that infuriates me the most about ID 2003. The biggest pro in ID 2003: The game is the most realistic in simulating how b-ball is played, IMHO. If ID 2004 could have players actually FOUL or try to draw fouls, then the game will be amazing, IMHO.

Re: ID2003 vs NBA2k3!! Pros and Cons of each
ID2003-
cons-
1. needs more variety in camera angles. the default camera is similar to NBA 2k3`s default angle (high) but the way this game plays it needs an angled camera view because in ID you`re always looking for an open man and with the default angle you can`t always find the open man... the classic nba live camera angle would be perfect for this game, but for now i do like the default angle and the 'high slash' angle.
2. too difficult to foul someone. in fact the intentional foul button is the 'back' button... this sucks for 2 reasons-
a. the back button is really not in a good place to foul someone. in other words- it`s too hard to reach this button if you want to foul someone! and i don`t think you can configure your controller to change this setting? atleast i have`t seen anyway to do it yet...
b. the animation they use for intentional fouls is screwed up! all they do is lunge forward, so even if you push this button it`s still hard to foul someone. they REALLY need to improve the 'IF' animation for ID 2004!!!
but i have found that if you hit 'B' (also the steal button) they will foul`em sometimes, like if a player is ahead of you or something and you need to foul just hit 'B'... so it`s not too bad but they do need to work on this!
3. graphics and presentation need some work. the grahics are just not quite there and no license like 2k3 has with ESPN.
4. the rap music in this game sucks big time! if you like rap you might like it but it`s still pretty bad.
5. no online play.
that`s really about it for ID`s cons...
pro`s-
1. probably the BEST playing BB game ever made! players come off of screens and hit the open 3`s... low post players will set screens for your center or power forward etc..etc.. players will go back door and leave you an ally-oop pass. fast breaks are much smoother than 2k3`s. ID litterally MAKES you want to learn all of the plays in this game! you`ll be amazed at how well ID2003 plays a game of BASKETBALL!
2. perhaps the DEEPEST player configuration settings ever in a sports game! the player attribute editor and player tendancy sliders are AWESOME! let`s say you think kobe is a little to fast in the game. just adjust his 'speed' attribute and he is now a little slower. or if you think Nash is hitting the 3`s a little too often, adjust his 3 point rating and his 3`s are not as effective etc..etc.. basicly thier`s a slider for everything that has to do with players. if you think Webber is not looking rebounds enough just move a slider and he looks for more rebounds. let`s say you think Duncan is not getting it done in the post up, just adjust his post up rating etc..etc.... you can make this game play exactly the way you want it to play.
3. teams play like their real selves... the lakers will run the triangle. the jazz will pick and roll. the celtics will jack up a lot of 3`s etc..etc.. so each game is a little different.
4. probably the best multiplayer and single player game ever made. it just feels like a basketball game and not some arcade game with flashy one on one moves.
NBA 2K3
cons-
1. sluggish gameplay... the game feels kind of robotic and doesn`t flow as good as ID. defensive players will sometimes stick to you like glue and this gives the game a very sluggish feel.
2. the passes move too slow... when you see an open man it really doesn`t matter because by the time the ball gets their the defense is on him and you no longer have an open man.
3. the bobbled passes happen too often. i rareley see this in a REAL nba game so why do we see it so much in 2k3. was it just to make the stats more realistic? you see an open man you pass the ball to him but he bobbles the pass... well he`s no longer an open man is he?
4. very little movement away from the ball. players just stand around and don`t try to get open.
5. too easy to steal. especially if you`re playing online. if you give the ball to the post up man it`s almost guaranteed that it will be a steal. also the slow passes make it too easy to steal the long passes down court. and this effects the fast breaks.
5. pick and roll is too effective! the AI just doesn`t switch when yo call a pick and it usually leaves you with an open lane to the basket.
6. the online settings are total crap and very unbalanced. the only teams that are worth playing with are- the mavz, kings, lakers, magic. these teams seem to play MUCH better than the other teams... this game just plays too slow online! i`m not sure what settings they`re using but this game is way to slow and it makes the other issues i mentioned even worse! and when you play online you can`t adjust the sliders.
pro`s-
1. well atleast it has online play... (for what it`s worth?)
2. presentation and graphics are all top notch! the ESPN FMV intro is GREAT!
3. deep franchise mode.
4. okay their are times when this game plays pretty realistic so the gameplay is not as bad as i make it sound! and the sliders can help the problems that i listed above.
it`s funny when you compare these two games. i think if gameplay is what interests you the most i would say buy ID 2003 but if graphics are more important and you can`t live without online gaming i would say buy 2k3.
that really sums it up about these 2 games.

I agree that the default camera is terrible. But I play on Broadcast. It feels like you are watchin a real game and you can see everything on the court.
I'm sure there are people who don't use it b/c they cant see all the detail of the players, but it doesn't bother me and for some reason I'm able to recognize every player on the court. Which is why I feel ID has the best graphics. All the players have body types, shapes, height/weight that are extremely similar to their real life counterparts.
I hope ID never gets rid of the broadcast view. I don't think I could play the game without it.

I kinda like where the intentional button is. If i'm gonna foul intentionally, I don't have to look for the back button b/c I already know i'm gonna do it. So my finger is over the button the second it comes to mind.
In addition, the placement allows you to avoid fouling by accident. I would hate it if intentional foul was the white/black button. THink about how many times you wanted to press Y (on the big controller) or B - I think B is on the bottom - (with the smaller controller) and hit the white/black button by accident. I would hate it to be one of those buttons.
But regardless, the game needs more fouls. I find myself reaching in and not being called for it enough.
I also find myself and the AI dunking the ball in traffic, clear contact - a defender falls down, but is in the circle - and there is no call. Just the two points and that's it.
However, I must say that I love the extra calls in the game. I didn't realize the game had a violation for shooting the ball through the bottom of the rim (the AI was called for doin this) My jaw just dropped. I had to replay it a couple of times. It's one of those things that i'll probably never see again."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace
