    Re: If ID 2004 added a \"Freestyle control\" .......

I think Freestyle control is an excellent idea, and will be implemented in probally all future bball games. It frees up an extra control pad button that can possibly be used for another cool function. The freestyle control is great in Live 2003 and is implemented quite well. The problem with live however lies in the defense. Playing defense on Live is an absolute joke.

The moves that are in NBA Live are used in the NBA, the rate at which they are used is left totally up to the user. You can do a billion crossovers a game with any game you play but it is b/c you choose to do it. If you like to play a more realistic game then this isnt a problem.

Another thing that ID 2003's missing is offensive and defensive awareness ratings. Without this, players just always move without the ball, they're constantly cutting and stuff, and the game never tends to play like a one-on-one game with very little ball movement. There are a lot of NBA games like this, and ID 2003 needs to get this done as well. Especially for teams that are on the second game of a back-to-back schedule. There should be more isolation plays run and stuff. Right now, the game plays a lot like the Kings style of offense.

      Very good post.

I have thought for a while ID is like the Mavs and Kings whereas 2K3 really plays like the Rockets.

I am a Houston fan, have been for a long time, but I wish Rudy would change the teams O as it is terrible. Hardly 20 TEAM assists in the last two games. Even the win over LA was Stevie going one on one all night. Sorry...off topic

Back to topic, I have seen plenty of ISO plays though...so I don't think it's mich of a problem.

Yes...I know what you mean about 'back to back' games etc but I think that's just taking the sim aspect a bit too far. I'd say it's a million to one to ever be implemented.

      Nice idea though.

Interesting, in another post I read it said ID had the largest playbook by far of any Bball game this year, and that it had a ton of ISO plays. So you are trying to say that all teams play the same style? Also what are the player attributes? maybe awareness has to do with the other attributes.

That was me. It has a lot of ISO plays. They don't 100% replicate the slow, everyone clear out and watch Stevie bounce it for 20 seconds and shoot type of some NBA games, but there in the game definitely.

I think Neo's point (fairly) is perhaps the ID AI can play a bit too much off the ball + cutters etc.

Definitely the Kings, Mavs etc are the best in ID at this.

Possibly, a team like the Rockets do it too well in the game. However, on a good night, the Rocks play like this. First game of a home stretch and they are like that.

Youu watch LA v NJ today and guys ARE moving pretty much non stop off the ball.

It's kind of stretching gaming AI to factor in "second of back to back games: run more ISO's" IMO. I wish someone could...but it's not likely to happen.

Real team styles are replicated. The C's hoot a lot from downtown, the mavs run and gun, the Jazz pick and roll all game.

For a better reference than mine, read the review from the guy who runs this site. http://operationsports.com/ReviewVau...sp?game=id2003

Quote from review : Players move very well without the ball and the AI will run plays to maximize the strengths of their players. Because of ID 2003's complicated "tendencies" system, players and teams play to their true-to-life selves, which makes every game feel unique. So you will see teams that like to push it up court like Dallas and Sacramento do just that. You will see the Lakers setting up the Triangle, and the Celtics raining 3-point bombs.

                  Re: If ID 2004 added a \"Freestyle control\" ...........

Bad idea. Freestyle ruins NBA Live 2003, as it's way too easy for a top player like Kidd or Iverson to get to the hoop and score at will, even against double teams.

Freestyle is a lot like going out with a really hot, really dumb chick. You enjoy it/her on the surface for a bit, but then it gets stale when you realize there's not much beneath the surface.

ID 2003 is the best sim of the "big three" NBA games, and adding Freestyle would dilute its quality sim nature.

ID 2003 kind of already has its own freestyle control if you switch the lob button to a deke button which you can do. I don't know if it needs a freestyle mode like Live, but it would be cool to add a few more moves such as the killer crossover for Iverson, and add some post up moves.

Again I must state that freestyle control doesnt ruin NBA Live. With or without freestyle control it is impossible to play defense on that game period.
