Re: NBA Inside Drive 2004 - snubbed from b/c again

After browsing this thread I ordered ID 2004 for a dollar off of Amazon. I'm greatly anticipating its arrival! I hope the CPU is as good as you guys say it is!

I've read in several reviews that getting to the rim is just a matter of pressing the crossover button a time or two though. Does anyone have any sliders they could recommend?

        Thanks man!!

I ordered it from Tennessee and I live right on the Tennessee/Georgia border. It shipped today so it should be here within the next few days.

I will definitely post some impressions after I play a few games.

Re: NBA Inside Drive 2004 - snubbed from b/c again

I'm loving this thread. Lets me know I'm not the only one that's interested in playing older basketball games that I never had the chance to play.

Haha, youvalss, I loved Courtside for N64. I also remember In the Zone 98 (never owned, just rented). It wasn't that great by any means, but it was 3D basketball, and I was young and easily impressed.

Just a few days ago I was thinking about picking up ID2004 for a few bucks online. I'll be waiting for your impressions Matt23134 .

To me, the older games are fun because our expectations aren't super high, so it's easier to just play the game and have fun and live with its problems. With 2k10 and Live 10, I have sky high expectations so it's too easy to get disappointed and then the fun factor gets lost.

Yeah, I played some older games myself recently. Currently playing 2K5 and 2K7 on my Xbox. I played In The Zone 98/99/2000 (N64) and they were ok, not that great. NBA Courtside 1 and 2 are fun, I wish I could play Courtside 2002...
I also still have NBA Shooutout 2004 and 2003 for the PS2 (at my parents' house). Neither is great, but still had some fun with 2004.

I've never really played this game, but I have been playing College Hoops 2K7 on the Original Xbox. (the last college hoops 2K game on original xbox) That is one of the greatest basketball games ever made.

I played the original College Hoops (I think 2004 was the first?) for original Xbox. It was addicting!

Is 2k7 for original Xbox pretty similar to 2k8 for 360? I've had a blast with that one, and most gamers on this site give it very high praise.

                  Agreed.

Yeah there are lots of similarities. 2K7 on the Original Xbox was much smoother, and had a few animations that 2K8 on 360 didn't have. The controls are slightly different. And 2K7 on Original XBox has the ability to have your players wear short sleeved shirts under their jersey. (none of the 360 games had that feature)

2K8 on 360 had a few things like the ability to run on the baseline when inbounding after a made basket. (this you couldn't do on 2K7 on Original Xbox)

But besides those few things, 2K7 on Original Xbox is better than 2K8 on 360 imo because it's a more complete, more refined game with better CPU A.I. 2K8 on the 360 tried to do some new things, some of which were great but others weren't executed as well as it could have been.

2K7 also fixed a few problems with 2K6. It was similar in some ways to 2K6, much like DOR is similar to DOR2 on the gamecube, but 2K7 is more refined, fixes some bugs has some nice animations. And the sliders seem to work well.

I just picked up ID 2004 on eBay. I'll post impressions as soon as it arrives and I get a game or two under my belt .

Also, I never had a GameCube, but I've heard the Wii can play GC games, so I might keep my eyes open for a deal on Courtside 2002. I've seen a few clips of it on YouTube and it looks pretty fun.

Guys, post impressions as soon as possible, and if you can upload gameplay videos please.

Re: NBA Inside Drive 2004 - snubbed from b/c again

My copy got here yesterday. I've played about half of lot of games and completed one or two.

Overall, I'm pretty pleased. The offensive AI really is what you guys built it up to be. The ball movement by the CPU is great. They will run a play to one side on one possession and to the other side on the next possession.

I'm not having a problem blowing by defenders with the juke button; I'm rarely even using it just because I don't want to get in a habit of spamming it. However, I just played a game against the Mavs and Nash dribbled by Billups (I was the Pistons) at will. This was with CPU jukes turned down 2 notches on Veteran. I might turn it down another notch. Sometimes he would dribble down and dish it to Dirk or Finley on the wings. It was frustrating, but nice to see him dish it out after driving.

I have a few complaints though. I wish the controls were a bit more responsive and I wish there was more than one control scheme. I'm still getting used to the block/rebound button being X instead of Y. I feel that the steal button is totally worthless, as it takes so long for my guy to attempt the steal (and I'm tapping for a quick steal, holding the steal button takes even longer). I also wish there was a CPU offensive tendency slider like in the 2K games. I wish the CPU would shoot a little more from 3 and the mid range instead of driving to the hoop or feeding it down low as much as they do. Also, it took me a while to get the hang of the jump shot button. I had been playing Live 2005 and you have to hold the button (for what seems like a lot longer) to make a shot on this game.

Also, on veteran with the CPU shooting sliders down 2 notches, they are consistently shooting around 55%. I'm shooting around 38-40% with my shooting sliders at default. I guess I just suck at defense right now.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with the game. I can't decide if I want to start a franchise with this or Live 2005 PC yet though. I LOVE that the CPU will work the ball around and have possessions where they make more than 1 or 2 passes before taking a shot (unlike Live 2005).

One thing I wish this game had that is in Live 2005 is the animation where the dribbler bumps into the defender and his progress to the basket is either hindered or totally halted. I felt like there was absolutely no way to stop Nash if he wanted to drive by me tonight. There is no bump animation or anything like that in ID 2004 .

I don't have the equipment or the know-how to record any video but I would be glad to answer any questions you have.

Cool, thanks for the info. By the way, check out the sliders thread, and someone said he had assigned double team in the paint, so when the CPU players penetrate, they can't go all the way to the hoop. You might want to try it out. Keep updating us
