Re: ID isn\'t yet a sim

I think in ID, what's good is so good it overshadows the bad. The lack of free throws is frustrating, and I've tried pivoting, pumpfaking, etc. and I still draw only a handful of shooting fouls per game.

As for the rebounds, I can live with it. I've been playing with the Bulls, and with Donyell Marshall at the 4 and Chandler at the 5, they've averaged 9 and 8 rebounds per game, which is realistic enough for me. There are some monster rebound games but usually the leading rebounder for me or the CPU is in the 12-15 range.

But the strategy of each team attacking you differently is what makes this a much better game and closer to a sim than Live or NBA 2k3.

Yeah, we've talked of the good things 35634625 times and we all know them alredy. But apparently Microsoft is aware of OS and its ID fans. Posting straight to them is useless so I summed up here what I felt that ID needs the most. Also I was curious if you thought the same.

Come to think of it, all it needs is more animations to fix the problems. Driving and trying to stop the drive is on the top of the list (includes fouling). You need huge amounts of animations to make it look near perfect. Post play needs more diversity. Possession fights etc. Behind these comes shooting and dribbling animations. As I said more flow to them. Rebounding physics might be considered animations but anyway, this needs serious work.

Other than that, getting a player really wide open could happen some times. Sometimes just the defense is out of position or the offense passes the ball around so good that eventually a guy gets to shoot or drive all alone. Now the defenders tend to be right on you.

Now some guy will probably tell me that these don't bother him or that I just have to be better and while that's true, the faults remain.

some of these flawas are annoying, but as someone else said not as significant as 2k3's and live's problems.

and as someone else said, no one's talking about 2k3 or live. jeez.

someone please make a seperate post like this about 2k3 and one about live and we can cover all of our bases and hopefully actually focus for a change.

Re: ID isn\'t yet a sim

After a few more ID games while being really aware of the problems and frustrated because of them, I have to say it isn't even close to being a sim. I'm a purist and I though I said otherwise in the first post, I don't enjoy ID anymore.

It's just not sim enough. Period.

Maybe it's not a sim for you, but it's the closest thing to a sim for me. You're right, rebounding is a problem. The thing is, I don't think the AI is that aggressive on the boards. That's why I get os many offensive rebounds. As for drawing fouls and free throw attempts, I'm still working that out. Sometimes I get to the line a lot, sometimes not enough. But I do think there is a strategy involved in getting to the line. I'm still trying to figure out what it is. The AI however definitely needs to work on getting to the line more. They need to pumpfake, they need to use the pivot (they really don't even use it!), they need to be able to be more effective in attacking the defense.

Most of all, there needs to be more pressure on the defensive end. I may have seen a full court press one or twice in my entire time playing the game, and that's what really has me frustrated. Even when I have a sizeable lead going into the fourth quarter, the AI never resorts to a full court press, which is ridiculous.
