Re: Where Live absolutely blows 2k out of the water:
Hmm AI. I dunno. Maybe. I might give you that one.
But gameplay, graphics, and animation all fall into the same category. The gameplay of 2k is actually worse and 'more scripted' than Live it just looks so much more fluid that you fall into thinking it's better.
Like I said, we know that if you get inside you can score every time on either game ,but at least Live gives you the chance to really stop someone one on one. If you gave yourself some real time to play with quickstrike offense/defense you would see what I mean.
NBA Live used to have a 1 on 1 mode, and I wish they still did. If they did, people would really be able to appreciate it more. A lot of people just cross back and forth and try to get inside, but it's much more involved than that. IMO Quickstrike is way more advanced than isomotion. Isomotion is meant to look good not to be effective.
Like I said, 2k just LOOKS sim it doesn't play sim. IF you wanna 'play sim' or adjust sliders... Live can be really sim, too.

Re: Where Live absolutely blows 2k out of the water:
2k8, you don't believe me? The reason 2k8 looks sim at times is because it is so animation based. However, a lot of these animations are overpowered. Like what about the spin move in 2k7. 2k's drop step has always been too powerful, too. Or what about the move where you push the guy forward in 2k8 and shoot over him?
The end result in Live is just as sim or more sim than 2k it's just 2k has a prettier way of doing it. Live has hiccups in its animations. So, when you see LeBron going to the basket for the dunk... and his animation is weird... like he takes off on the wrong foot or something... it catches your eye. That's why you say NBA Live isn't sim or the gameplay isn't as good. However, somehow when some scrub is lighting you up for 50 points online or Yao is dominating with his 'smooth animations' it is much easier to stomach. Do you see what I am getting at?
If you break down basketball to its very core (At least in the video game world) you'll have a few things:
Rebounding/ball gathering, one-on-one play, inside play, driving play, passing, and the way the AI players react.
Rebounding is pretty busted on Live. 2k owns that hands down. And the players on 2k seem to react much better when you have the ball and during play situations (but I imagine wang will shore that up in next year's game.)
However, the passing, the shooting, and every other offense/defense balance aspect is BETTER on Live than it is on 2k.
You might end up shooting a fade away that LOOKS funky, but the whole squaring someone up on the perimeter and the interaction... or getting into the lane and powering over someone... is much, much better in Live.
But yes I agree the AI is pretty stupid. However, I think online it works because you can make up for that. I forgot how awesome Live is to play online after dealing with 2k frustration for two years.

Re: Where Live absolutely blows 2k out of the water:
You may not have 2k anymore ill, but if you want to see some footplanting similar to Live, you should try DaCzar's advice and lower your player speed and quickness under the attributes thread. This makes going from regular speed to turbo look much more realistic imo. Mine is at speed 35 quickness 40. Just a suggestion.EA and 2k have the unfortunate task of trying to balance on a tightrope of fun and sim while trying not to fall 10,000 feet to their death. Instead of a safety net waiting down below there will just be angry customers quick to move out of the way and talk of their failure.Comment

Re: Where Live absolutely blows 2k out of the water:
I want to play online, though, man, offline everything can be fixed with sliders, of course. Live is sim offline, too, with good sliders.
A lot bothers me with 2k. Do they still have those super bullet passes in 2k around the perimeter when you turn down the speed? That is so unrealistic! I was watching some games last night and people throw waaaay lazier passes than they do in 2k. In 2k it's like they are running a passing drill in practice.
