Re: Live 10 vs. NBA 2K10

Hey everybody. New to the forum! I started playing bball games again for a year already. I never really kept up until I got Live 09, but regret not getting 2k9. There were things I hated about live, but some things that I did like. I played the 2k9 demo and never really got into it because of the shot stick. I really liked live where you tap the right stick and you can do a cross over etc etc...When I bought 2k10 Draft Combine I started learning to use the shot stick. I really enjoy playing the game and am looking forward to 2k10.

I downloaded the demo for Live 10 and well I didn't like the rebounding/blocking. It looked as though they jump too high. I keep up with the cpu on superstar mode, but sometimes there are wild shots. Rashard Lewis shot a fadeaway 3 pointer as the shot clock expired. He did it twice in a game. It seems as though a lot of wild shots will go in.

I really didn't know where to post this and well I saw this was a 2k10 vs live 10 and posted it here. I believe I will be getting both the games this year.

This is might be the first year I won't be able to afford both games. So I have yet to decide which game I'm going to get. To me, the Live demo was impressive but I'd still like to see what 2K is offering. Hope they release a demo before the actual game ships.

after playing the Live demo this is a no brainer, 2k10 hands down. Live 10 is an improvement from Live 09 but Live 09 sucked so that should be expected. It still is no where near as good as 2k's basketball games.

Re: Live 10 vs. NBA 2K10

I getting both but right now I'd say Live 10 is most likely going to get less burn from me because I wasn't very high on the CPU playing style.

It plays great head to head based on the demo though....

Now 2K 10 from what I've seen looks like a BEAST. I know it's just videos but from what I saw the CPU players do shiiit like real NBA Players based on the videos.

Now that could be just tricks......but as of right now that game has animations that are flat out sick. The game just looks like NBA players are on the floor moving around.

i'll be getting live, and renting 2k10....

my reason is that live ( and this is based on last year ) responds better to edits producing better gameplay but after the demo its not so clear it will this year has the tool to re-edit gameplay....

2k really does not peak my interest, the last 2 years especially when 2k7 i loved and college hoops 2k8 is considered my best experience in b ball.....

also i dont like the player models in 2k but if it plays a better game of b ball i'll stomach it

but i doubt it, these games suffer from the same issues

still on the fence.. seen tons of 2k10 vids and it just seems so similiar to 2k9..

I had a blast with 2k8 and played multiple seasons... 2k9 put tons of hours in as well but not as many (it got stale way faster than 2k8)

judging 2k10 by the vids it doesnt look it's a ton of fun, which gets overlooked these days (fun factor)

Re: Live 10 vs. NBA 2K10

Im leaning more towards live. I will rent 2k10 but live 10 seems to have more of a sim aproach to their game.

Im not noticing money plays on live 10 with the higher difficulties. The ability of having control of what you want to do on offense is the key selling point for this game.

I also like how when someone drives to the paint there is contact, you actually feel like you have a chance to stop the offense in this game. I dont get that feeling with 2k's game.

Also i like how ea will be patching in the manual post up button. Not sure what the developers are going to do with the auto post up with 2k's game.

2k10 seems like it will be a frustating game to play with the money plays, like pick n roll, alley oops, lead passes.

Once you look past the great graphics, and animations 2k's gameplay feels outdated with the predetermined money plays in the paint.

I am seriously trying to give Live a chance this year, however I am having a hard time getting over the player models...they just don't do it for me. The gameplay I find equal, just different. SO i will go with feel and presentation, and by feel I don't mean control, I mean overall immersion of the game. 2k for atleast one more year.

                          Live

                          - player movement
                          - controls
                          - plays
                          - sound and atmosphere
                          - dna
                          - passing

besides can't stomach 2k's gameplay and some of its animations any more

Still can't decide which game to get, and keep flip-flopping back and forth. I had 2k9, and played the Live 2010 demo. Here are my pros and cons for each -

                            2k10

                            Pros
                            - Dependable and Solid engine
                            - Presentation looks amazing (graphics and sound)
                            - My Player mode

                            Cons
                            - My biggest problem last year was the overuse of the inside game, and I am hearing this is the same this year.
                            - Stale Engine

                            Live 2010

                            Pros
                            - Fresh and new (huge pro for me)
                            - Love the controls on offense

                            Cons
                            - Too fast paced
                            - Some really sloppy plays (with numerous people diving for loose balls) which make the game very chaotic at times
                            - Unrealistic Dunks in Traffic
                            - AI seems to make many heavily contested three pointers

I suppose from the above it seems like I have more issues with Live (although many may be fixed via sliders). However, the freshness of the game is seriously appealing to me. I got quite bored with 2k9 last year and never even completed a single season. I am a huge Celtics fan and could get a slam dunk with KG 70 percent of the time. Then, when the AI would double team him, I could kick out to Paul Pierce and Ray Allen for constant 3s. This was with suggested sliders from this board.

Anyways, think I will make my decision off of reading impressions over the next few days. Actually have both games preordered, and if it comes down to it, I will just try both and sell one used. I managed to get them both for 80 bucks through amazon (using ECA discounts) minus the 10 i got for selling back 2k9.

I love NBA2k10 but Live's starting to get a strong look from me. Haven't played it since 07 so IDK at this point, I'm undecided

So after I make my choice, then I got to decide on what system I'm getting the game for: PS3 or 360?
