Now while thats certainly not the norm, i definately throws the "i cant palm" excuse out the window. I could barely palm those little Pizza Hut NCAA balls we used to get back in the day.

Not dunking at 6'4" is pretty unheard of for a non-fat, non too young/too old, brother like yourself...

I think this dudes messin with you guys. Just sayin
lol . na man, I wouldnt do that. Its kinda embarrasing when people ask you to dunk, and you tell them no because you dont wnna roll your ankle smh .

you should run a lot not just sprinting but long runs because it builds up your muscle endurance.strengthen your legs which can be done a lot of different ways like skipping or calf raisers.you also need a strong core as well which also adds to your leaping ability.i hav have tried and continue to do all these things and im glad to say im 6 foot 2 and dunking easily.plus these things take effect quickly if you are seriously committed and work hard at it.

sorry for posting twice but i forgot that you should stretch as much as possible and before and after doing any type of activity because as someone mentioned it will make you more flexible and versatile as an overall player.and of course make sure you get MORE than enough sleep.

This is one of the most shocking thread I've seen. I'm not knocking anybody, but I'm 5' 8" and can dunk. Hell, I got a buddy 6' 1" and can touch the top of the box. It weird how things work. And I have seen guys 6' 4" and 6' 5" that couldn't dunk.

Once more for the road (because I think I already said this in response to another post), if you're 5'8'' and can dunk, and your 6'1'' friend can touch the top of the box, those are exceptional feats and are by no means common and routine.

In regards to 6'3'' fellows, I've seen just about every form in my time within the game. I've known 6'3'' guys with 37'' verticals, 6'3'' guys with favorable hops, and 6'3'' guys who seemed rooted to the ground. And all of them had skills. Some players just develop differently and excel in different areas.

It's sort of like comparing Paul Pierce and Vince Carter. Both great players, both separated by an inch, but one just happened to be able to jump to the moon. That does not mean Pierce was a horrible athlete (he was/is in fact a great athlete) and it does not mean any 6'6'' player who can't mimic Vince is thus a dissapointment. Rather, what Vince did/does is simply exceptional.

You guys are not going to believe this. My best friend is 6'8 and he can't dunk. I'm 6 feet tall and can touch the rim. I should be able to dunk, but I don't play baseketball that much.

                        Re: 6'4 and cant dunk

I went to HS with a guy that was almost 7'0 and couldnt dunk. He was at least 6'9 or 6'10, but I think I remember hearing him say he was 7'0 one time. He was on the basketball team and he was terrible.
He just had no muscle... He was a like a big flabby bag of mush. That is kind of sad though. If he didnt have any bone or muscle issues(that some tall people have) it seems like it would have only taken a minimal effort for him to be decent. You dont even have to be that good when you are that tall to make it. Look at Dwight Howard.

That is pretty bad. My "little brother" is 6'5", weighs like 205 and is in pretty decent shape. He played basketball and worked out quite a bit all through highschool but never could consistently dunk it. He was right on the edge for a while and may get one down wide open while warming up but could never do it with any consistancy. I on the other hand am about 6'1" and weigh 235 lbs so I am quite a bit shorter and heavier but I was able to dunk it pretty easily my last couple years of high school and a couple years after that. Anymore knee problems have lessened that ability but I can still kinda throw it down and can easily jump up and grab the rim with 2 hands without taking a running start or even a step into it. I do have a 6'7" arm span though which helps me quite a bit.

im 6'2 and a half but i was dunking since i was 5'8 i didn't do any of them things the other people talk about genetics play a role in athletic ability and for those that say that most 40 in verts are one step is load of crock i hand a 42 inch vert standing cold and i didn't do any special exercise to acheive it. palming is only important when dunking after contact the more u can control the ball the more likely u make posters and i made my few over people that was way taller than me

im a 5'9 white fullback and i can get up higher than that.

but my friend has the same issue.

he can jump , he's 6'4 and he can pretty much palm the ball. im trying to help him but never dunking myself i can only help so much.
