Re: 2K vs Elite talk: "MJ won't matter" - Peter Moore
This is something that bugs me though. God forbid you make a comment about another developer's success in a positive fashion. Things have become so political to the point that some are afraid to admit and celebrate another product's success because of fear it will shed negative light on their product. What if Moore simply said, "You know, the 2K team has put out a quality product this generation. Going back to my days with the Dreamcast, Visual Concepts has always been a quality developer. Putting Michael Jordan on their cover is a big claim. With our work on NBA Elite, and the positives changes we are making, it will be an exciting year for basketball gaming."
It's too bad that transparency is hard to find in this gaming culture.Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.Comment

At the end of the day I think he probably is just frustrated he didn't get MJ and is trying to downplay 2K's accomplishment.#WashedGamerComment

This thread is so something out of nothing. For one, the threadstarter puts "MJ won't matter" in quotes, while Moore never says anything to that effect. All he did was point out the potential questions raised with putting a retired player on the cover, even relating it to how they did just that with a recent game. He says "we never went after Jordan" because the question posed was "How disappointed were you that you couldn’t get Jordan and that they, 2K, got Jordan". Impressive twisting of his meaning going on here.
We interestingly just did a similar thing with Wayne Gretzky on Slapshot. One of the concerns that the marketing team had is, “How are you going to make sure this is seen as s fresh new game?” We take that feedback very seriously from our marketing team and how do we make sure that we’re indicating this is a new game, not an old game. We never went after Jordan. Good luck with NBA 2K11. They’ve got a great product and I’m sure their cover boy isn’t going to impact that.Last edited by Tha_Kid; 07-16-2010, 07:25 AM.Comment

I will take notes and report back.. Maybe it has all pass me by but I don't hear or see guys running around trying to get the lastest MJ shoe like back in the day. I have a teenage son who never ask me to get him some Jordans..Comment

My bad with the misquote. The title of the article says something to that effect and it stuck. I just re-read it and didn't find him saying that. Good catch.Comment

Re: 2K vs Elite talk: "MJ won't matter" - Peter Moore
You can make the argument a 12-15 year old might not remember or care about George Gervin, Wilt etc.......but you cant go 10 paces in a mall w\o seeing a jumpman logo....The mans brand\ legend transcends time...everyone knows MJ...hes after whatever is after a "housrhold name" lol
Hey, even check out a mall after a Jordan shoe is released....there are people of all ages waiting in line...Comment

But I think in this instance it's a case where the brand itself has outpaced the athlete who started it. I bet money that quite a few of those kids who are buying Jordans don't even really KNOW know about Mike. I bet a larger portion of those kids couldn't even tell you what team he played on.
They know his face
Euro's know his face
His face is on the game

Re: 2K vs Elite talk: "MJ won't matter" - Peter Moore
Im the only one who said it and as far as im concerned
"I’m not quite sure what [Jordan on the cover] signifies, quite frankly," he said
Then he says
"We haven’t announced our player yet, but we tend to be forward thinking about our franchiseComment

Re: 2K vs Elite talk: "MJ won't matter" - Peter Moore
Dont say people, if you want to address my post then quote it
Im the only one who said it and as far as im concerned
Im telling him it signifies game over this year. A product that has the attention of the mass market and even more hardcore fans on top of that along with having someone on the front whom you'd have a hard time trying to pull eyes off of to me = game over.
Then he says
Is this guy out of touch with whats going on, seriously, and you're wondering why im questioning him?Comment

Re: 2K vs Elite talk: "MJ won't matter" - Peter Moore
Im not sure how the stuff you quoted is " out if touch". Everybody knows jordan is one the most recognizable characters to play the game, goat, blah blah blah and he gives 2k a considerable advantage on the marketing side and im sure he understands that but thats about it. There are plenty of kids today who don't know wtf mj is and just where the shoes because older people tell them too. Although KD plays in a small market and such, it is the consensus that he is the future face of the league therefore ea saying there forward thinking is spot on .I agree that this is a whole bunch of something over nothing......
I said out of touch because unless this interview was done some time ago, EA already announced their coverboy.
TK made a comment long before I posted then put up a general comment about something I said afterwards as if his original post was about my comment when thats not even the case.
That was the entire intent of my last post there.Comment

I was wondering the same thing. Then I thought: "Maybe this interview is old", but why post a month+ old interview on July 15? That's weird...My Specs:
