Re: Has EA finally given this series an identity?

See thats the issue. Why is it that all im hearing about is one extreme to the next? Why cant we have both?

There is no reason for it to be programmed into the game that Ron is taking off like Kemp, Boozer like Dr J, Shaq shooting like Drexler

It should never be there in the first place! Its 2011, not 2003, there is no excuse for that stuff anymore. A standard has been set and anything less makes no sense, especially bragging about tech like procedural awareness dynamic season, and dna that doesnt work.

At the end of the day if the Clippers challenge you the same as the C's, an 82 game season matters nothing.

The issue I have now is, since the videos...why all of a sudden want to show something now? Why record something now?

Its almost demo time and you're telling me there was nothing recorded at all? NOTHING ? No advertisement was in the works?

Was it the plan not to show me anything anyway?

Im telling you, that you cant tell people's eyes that you have to feel it on commercials

For what it is worth, they had said before that they weren't going to put anything together until the game was close to being finished.

Blackflash said they were putting together a trailer last week, and that 5v5 gameplay was probably coming this week, both before you had gone out there Saturday.

Completely disagree. This should be rating based. If I go and turn all Artest dunking attributes to 99 than he should be able to pull off all kinds of crazy dunks.

So signature animations is suppose to be the only thing that separate lets say Kobe from T-Mac? You people is turning real stupid in this thread.

Well it depends what you define as crazy dunks. If you are saying jumping over two players from the dotted line for a dunk (like Boozer) is fine then something's wrong lol.

But if you are saying a crazy dunk would be him doing tomahawks and 360's then yes they are because those are things he's definitely not going to do nowadays.

I dont think anybody should have all 99's in the dunking category, but if a player did he should pull off some amazing dunks being maxed out. Within reason of physics ofcourse. But if the devs said Boozer was maxed out in his dunking attributes when he did that I wouldnt trip as hard.

If this is really a RTP game as advertised. I like to see dunks based on a player height, weight and ratings not just some canned package dunks.

So what will? I'm not saying that animations are enough but if Elite will give us the 100% control then tmac will be the same with Kobe since you have 100% control (RTP and 100% control wont separate them). I guess tendencies will separate them but when people are using them, that's a different story. I guess what devs can do is limit the "tools" or moves they can use. And both games has not done that yet.

Physics will not separate players to since physics is applied to all players as far as I know. So unless anyone has a bright idea on how to separate players then I guess animations will be the only way to go for this year at least.

So yeah its already 2011, generic looking/moving/thinking players cannot be excused because of a new tech because we cannot pay for something this year that has less of what we have last year (overall). Live 2010 was a good foundation for them and I'm not really sure why they scrapped the direction of live 2010.

I like what EA is trying to accomplish but don't think the game will be all that good for a true basketball experience this year for guys like me that want as real life as possible. I think that is why Mike Wang said that the direction they were headed he did not fell was in his best interest to stay at EA. I believe Mr. Wang is a true sim basketball fan and that Elite is not going to be that. I think it will be a fun game to play for those online guys and exhibition players but not for Association guys like myself. EA wont come close to 2k until they get a more in depth dynasty mode like what is in 2k. I do hope that EA does start to push 2k because we need 2 basketball games to be battling it out for the best so we dont end up with just one company making the game like football.
Football is totally different, Nfl 2k and Madden were both pushing each other and it was a great rivarly, but it was all in the hands of what the NFL wanted, and that was more money, and they saw that having an NFL exclusive auction out for whoever could put up the most money would win. So its pretty much unpredictable about who will get the exclusive license to the NBA down the road, which i hope never happens, because it really doesnt matter if you are making the best gaming experience.

I dont want to see Kobe having the same jump shot as T-mac If they did that would make the game generic. I just hate how people downplay animations, like they are a bad thing are something. In years past I always felt like they were trying to be option B. It was like Live was the game for guys that didn't want to play 2K or just wanted a change of pace for a while. They would offer some new controls or features but honestly it would be like playing the same game.

When I say playing the same game i mean the controls or features would just be something the other team hadn't really implemented yet. Nothing was truly revolutionary or game changing because it didn't add something the other game couldn't possibly have.

This year though they took on the total control mantra and it added in somethings that may not be possible in the other game. Things like RTP and 1:1 dribbling are in some ways in 2K11 too but not on the same level though.

Same things goes for two player animations they are completely done away in the game. And to me these things give Elite its own identity.

Now its not just "oh well I like Elite because it just gives me betterr control." Now it gives you total control and its not just effecting the user in small ways but it impacts every part of the game.

From the way we dribble up the court to how we shoot the ball. Pretty much everything has been effected in this years game.

And its kind of refreshing to see because it allows players to kind of change the way they think about bball games in general. You can't really approach this game in the same way you do 2K11 because they on two totally different playing fields now.
EA has had it's own identity. It was king in basketball before 2K6 came along.

Ratings and tendencies will seperate them as long as they really matter, animations only make them look different.

If Kobe and T-Mac had the same speed, vertical, on ball awareness, and strength just to name a few, they are basically the same with different animations. It take more than animations to separate players from each other in video games.
