Re: This game owns my soul.
I've been playing through my first season of legacy mode with Wofford and Florida. I gotta say, I don't think I've ever played a sports game with this much immersion in its legacy/dynasty mode. I've been a long time NCAA FB/Madden/MarchMadness junkie, but none of those come close to what CH 2K8 offers. Like the other day, I just discovered that I can schedule neutral site games at a number of great college basketball venues like Ford Field, Staples Center, New Orleans Arena, etc.
What other game lets you recruit underclassmen? What other game has as deep of a scouting mode as the ABL offers? Unlike CH2k8, March Madness 2011 (the final game in the series) didn't even have all the teams featured! (e.g. FGCU) I loved NCAABB10's presentation, but the gameplay was very rudimentary and simple. It was very easy to lob passes from mid court to your center down low in the paint. I gave up on the game after it constantly froze upon the start of year 2 in my dynasty (this was a common glitch for many 360 users and EA NEVER released a patch to fix this problem. They basically ditched their customers after the game had been released). End rant.
As the OP mentioned, CH2K8 never feels like one of those games where after a couple of games, you master the game and go on to post multiple 32-0 national champion seasons (see NCAABB10). Right now, I am using the 2011-12 rosters. Therefore, I've modeled the Gators schedule as their real life 2011-12 counterparts. For the most part, I've been able to blow out smaller schools at home and stay toe toe with bigger schools. Yet, I never feel like I've mastered the game. I finished my nonconference schedule #1 atop the polls, only to blow a 10 point lead to #25 Alabama on the road, blow out a .500 Auburn squad at home by 28, but then almost lose to unranked 9-5 Ole Miss on a last second missed buzzer beater at their place. Take away the current gen graphics and you really feel like you're experiencing an actual college basketball game. I enjoy watching the other games play in my legacy as CPUvs.CPU and seeing the highlights on Sunday night. (side note: I don't ever remember being able to play other games outside your dynasty in the March Madness/NCAA BB series).
I don't have an Xbox One or a PS4 because I enjoy continuing to play immersive college games like CH2K8 and NCAA 14. Until those titles come back for next gen, maybe then I'll consider getting one of thoseNational Champions: 96', 06', 08'Comment

Re: This game owns my soul.
Fired up 2K8 last night for the first time in probably a year. The game is still amazingly fun. I think a small part of what separates it from the newer 2K games is that although it's very arcade-like, the passing is so much more appealing. Granted it's not realistic and you can whip passes all over the court with little repercussion, it adds one hell of a flow to the game. The agonizing passing system/animations of recent NBA2K games is not there.
Played one game in my long-running UConn dynasty, early season game against overmatched Central CT State. I was down 10-2 early on and then put the clamps on and ran them out of the gym. I was up 48-23 at halftime. The pace of the game was so awesome, an up-tempo thrill ride that had both teams constantly pushing the ball. It's more reminiscent of 90s college ball but whatever, it's so much fun."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Yep it's that time of the year again for me as well. I've had this game since 2009 and still love it. I'm in year 21 of my closed legacy and still going strong playing every game.Comment

I need some help fellas. After 6 long years my og copy finally bit the dust today. Amazon has the 360 copy for over $100...lol. and the closest Gamestop with it is 90 miles away from me. So any word on a cheap hookup would be appreciated for the GOAT sports game to continue on in my life.Comment

Talk to the ppl at your Gamestop...
Many times they can request it be sent from that other store to yours.--If you need it, you don't have it. If you have it you don't need it. But if you need and you don't have it, you want it. If you don't have any of it, then you really don't know how to get more of it to get started then anyways now do you? --Comment

I actually just bought a lot of 3 used PS3 copy's and paid $47 for all 3. Figure this way I am covered on both systems should I choose to upgrade my 360 to a XBox One someday.Comment

If you are looking for a brand new factory seal, then I would say good luck. If you are willing to buy a used copy, you can pick them up on Ebay typically for around 30-35.

Re: This game owns my soul.
Last night I was playing a tough conference road game with my Missouri Valley team of choice, the Illinois State Redbirds against Northern Iowa. It was close throughout, but I had a one point lead with under 30 seconds to play. Northern Iowa spread my defense out and one of their guards found an open lane to the basket. I managed to slide my PF over just in time to draw the charge. Turnover, intentional foul, my PG makes 2 FT's, Northern Iowa misses a desperation heave at the buzzer. A nice, hard-earned win, but nothing extraordinary or so I thought.
Then the post game wrap-up comes on and lo and behold the play of the game is my PF taking the charge while Greg Gumbel excitedly intones something like: "Illinois State gets their jerseys dirty and gets gritty with a huge defensive play!" I nearly fell out of my chair. I've been playing 2k8 since the year it came out and I've never heard that one before. Not only did 2k8 recognize that the critical play of the game was a defensive play, but it was a defensive play without a specific stat attached to it like a block or a steal. I never would have thought that buried somewhere on that magical old disk was one more line of code that could still surprise me.
That got me thinking - how many games of 2k8 have I played without uncovering that neat little moment? Somewhere in the high hundreds maybe? I did some calculations (somehow I still have all my save files). I estimated that I had coached around 63 seasons (conservatively) using 18 different teams while playing around 16 games per season. I did the math and there it was . . . 1008.
I've played over 1000 games of 2k8 and not only am I not done with it, the game can still surprise me.Comment

Re: This game owns my soul.
Picked up a copy and after 2 days, my soul belongs to this game for sure.
It's so satisfying when the players you go after accept your scholarship offer. I'm hoping to bring home the championship this season after falling to Gonzaga in the Final Four my first season.. Gonzaga played the fouling game and Pangos was able to hit 3 after 3 to force overtime and eventually beat me. Surprisingly, Iowa won the whole thing, though.Comment

Re: This game owns my soul.
So the other day I was sitting and playing NCAA 14. I looked over my PS3 collection and saw CH2K8 staring at me. It was calling me.
I gave in and popped it in.
I decided I would start a fresh brand new Legacy and take on Long Island University.
All I have thought about the past two days is my ABL recruit list and getting in tons of ABL games to scout my potential 1-3 star recruits. I even put a high school freshman PG on my list to scout and keep tabs on. I also already found a gem of a ** athletic SF who may be a Jamal Mashburn type for me if I can grab him.
This game will again OWN MY SOUL. Best dynasty mode (along with NCAA 14) ever. Now Playing on PS5:
CFB 26 Hurricanes/Fresno State Year 2
MLB The Show 25 - 2025 Yankees Year 1
MLB The Show 25 1985 Yankees Year 1

Re: This game owns my soul.
Just picked up the game this week for the 1st time ever. This game is so fun.
I've been playing 2K on pc for years and the college mods on pc just don't compare to this game. I picked up an xbox 360 and the game for a total of $80 bucks and it is worth it since I had the cash to spare.
I've always heard about this game but now I see why it is legendary. I recreated my College rosters from the 2K15 PC college mod. It has many youtubers like K- Spade, Chris Smoove, Neal Bridges, and many more. This game has been very exciting.Comment
