Re: This game owns my soul.

another thing that Im starting to notice that is done really well is the Ai awareness in the game.

on one particular play, after a missed shot, I was going for a loose ball which was going out of bounds.. the cpu Ai controlled team's player along the baseline shields me from getting to the ball and the baseline. the ball goes out of bounds and they get possession. (its basically a box out along the far corner of the baseline-just beautiful)

another thing that is done beautifully is off ball, when players curl around a pick, catches the ball and shoots a jumper.

fighting through picks is still lovely.

the presentation is also done well. the little sideline reporting on what adjustments were made during the half or after times-outs is also fresh sounding. its great cause the reporting is happening during game play.

I still cant get enough of this game. Im always finding something refreshing in this game.

I tend to enjoy 2k8 after I take a break from the NBA 2k titles. I wish 2k would make a new ch2k title.

I never played 2k3, but 2k4 was fantastic and the integration of the ESPN presentation was amazing. I think it had the best atmosphere and presentation of any sports game I've ever played.

I decided to pop in 2k8 after a long absence and booted up my legacy that I'm in 2037 with. I started this Legacy by switching my upgraded Austin Peay team with Depaul. I had 3 solid years there and I bounced from team to team for awhile before settling in back at Austin Peay to end the Legacy where I began. Im in the Final Four in this current season and the Final Four teams are Cincinnati, Austin Peay, Pepperdine, and Oregon State.

What i actually like is that when I’m trying player lock, I have more control over my guys from a movement perspective. Feels like in nba2K they have too much momentum or something.

My xbox broke like 7 or 8 months ago and I finally splurged on getting a new one the other day. I've been thinking a lot about my legacy that I had been really invested in and needed to get back into it. It was like I didn't miss a beat and flowed right back into playing it! I have the new NBA 2K but I can't get away from this game haha!

I love this thread...I remember reading through it many many times over the years. I still have my PS3 and a copy of this game and usually give it a good play through this time of year.

Was that the version where they had the cartoonish pictures and ESPN music? Man, I LOVED that version and totally agree with you. My brother had it and got me to switch to 2k from March Madness because of that game!

My biggest issue with CHoops2k8 is the offensive spacing, its just a cluttered flow of a game. Outside of that it is really special. #legendsneverdie

This is the only reason I don't play this game year-round still. The offensive plays, spacing and movement has aged poorly. You pretty much need to call pick-and-rolls all game long or post up.

someone updated the playbooks for all the teams a few years ago. most teams run some form of motion offense.
the game with these playbooks installed have made a big difference.
there's spacing, there's alot of movement. alot of kick outs etc,

id say do a search on here or on google and download the playbooks. youll see a major improvement.

Do you mean actual download or do you mean creating a playbook based on suggested plays? I was just searching after reading this post, Braska made a couple of playbooks for only Duke and Kentucky.

spit_bubble (koshi) made a few playbooks, no downloads, I may use this because its only my first time every seeing it.

                            1. Weeds out the bad plays.
                            2. Gets the ball into the scorer's hands more.

This results in more realistic play from the CPU on the offensive end.

I created a balanced playbook of 20 plays, for teams with inside and outside game, and tested it out against as '81 Indiana vs. '90 LSU (C Shaq, PF Stanley Roberts, SG The Legend Chris Jackson). They started out feeding Shaq down low often and he had two monster dunks, getting fouled each time. He ended up getting in foul trouble himself, and Chris Jackson started to take over... Along with Roberts getting a few buckets from posting up.

I ended up losing by 16, with Jackson ending up with 20 some odd points, Roberts 12, and Shaq 11 in limited time.

Here's the balanced book I created, for those who don't want to go through the playbooks themselves:

                            CPU Balanced
                            BOX- PF Pop Clear
                            BOX- Pick then Post
                            BOX- PF Double Screen
                            MOTION- SF Weak Side
                            MOTION- SG Stagger
                            MOTION- PG Combo
                            MOTION- Switchback
                            MOTION- 24 Motion
FLEX- PG- PF Pick and Roll
                            FLEX- PG Choice
                            FLEX- PF Low Post
FLEX- PG-C High Screen and Roll
UCLA HIGH POST- SF Low Post
                            UCLA HIGH POST- SG Iso
                            PRINCETON- C Low Post Feed
                            STACK- Double Cross
                            STACK- Screen Step Out
                            STACK- PG Clear Out
                            STACK- 41
                            STACK- Michigan

You very well might be able to just use this playbook, or another like it, for the CPU playbook all the time. When in Legacy you have to exit Legacy to reload another playbook. So if your upcoming opponent has a star PF and you have a perimeter playbook loaded, you have to exit, load, reload, etc... Not that big of a deal, but like I say, one balanced playbook would probably suffice and save yourself the trouble.
