    Joe Johnson a Hawk

The Suns did a sign and trade with Joe Johnson. The Suns get Diaw and some 1st round picks and Hawks get Joe Johnson. I dont get why they got Diaw while they still Barbosa as the backup point gaurd

I thought Diaw was a sg/sf. At least they got something for JJ. How many 1st round picks were included.

This reminds me of the K-Mart deal. Suns fans will love this trade a year or so from now.

Not bad for ATL, though I would have just hold on to my first rounder than trading it away. Either way, they still have a better chance of getting JJ with or without trading something. Even if PHX did sign JJ, they have nothing to loss, since they still have Curry to go after. Plus the rebuilding process can still wait for a couple of year until another FA will be available. Maybe Shawn Marion or something.

edit: Nevermind, I see Stein's article.

BTW, I just read on a Hawks board that they also signed Zaza Pachulia to an offersheet. Anyone heard that?

I don't think the deal is quite done yet, but rather just speculation and is on the table at this point.

            Dos.

Agreed. Could you imagine either next year or two years from now the Suns drafting Marcus Williams, Rando, or Daniel Gibson to be Nash's replacement? Wow.

I dont get why they got Diaw while they still Barbosa as the backup point gaurd
You think the Hawks are going to give up one of their PGs when they really don't have any? No way.

A word of advice to the thread starter. Dont go around talking as if the trade is fact. It really throws people off.

As for the SPECULATED S&T....it's better than nothing. I still say we resign him because it's not fair to break up 2/5ths of a team that won 62 games and was within three fourth quarters of decent basketball away from the Finals (but thats another discussion).

Any deal with the Hawks HAS to include one of the Josh's OR Al Harrington....not some second-rate backup PG from France.

                Whatever.

                    Re: Joe Johnson a Hawk

I did say its better than nothing. But I'd expect us to push for Childress or Smith or Harrington. Oh well, guess we're not in the driver's seat when it comes to a S&T.

Oh, yeah. The picks BETTER not be protected outside of top 3. That'd be absolute BS if it is. I've heard one of the picks will come from the Lakers/Celtics as far as the Walker trade via the Payton trade or something like that. Supposedly the pick would be the lower one of the two. As for the second one, there better not be any protection on it whatsoever.

I like the trade exception that we get also.

                    We'll have.....

                    PG: Steve Nash
SG: Michael Finley (we'll sign him guaranteed if Dallas releases)
                    SF: Shawn Marion
                    PF: Amare Stoudemire
                    C: Kurt Thomas

                    The bench would consist of....

                    Jim Jackson
                    Raja Bell
                    Leandro Barbosa
                    Scott Padgett
                    (HOPEFULLY) Steven Hunter
                    Boris Diaw
                    Dijon Thompson
                    Lucas Tischer

Actually since the Suns can match any offer and piss in JJ's KoolAid they should try to get as much as possible.

I think this could work out for both teams and the Suns will honor JJ's request while not coming out empty handed.

I hate it though, it really leaves the Suns as a weaker team going into next season atleast in my opinion.

                          Re: Joe Johnson a Hawk

The proposed deal, according to sources, would bring guard Boris Diaw and two lottery-protected future first-round picks to Phoenix -- along with a trade exception in the $5 million range -- after Johnson signs a contract under terms established by Atlanta: $70 million over five years with an estimated balloon payment of $20 million up front.
I am furious right now. I mean, get at least ONE that belongs to Atlanta without any protection or top 3 protection. I mean, Joe Johnson was a lottery pick himself. We deserve at LEAST that in return.

Im not sure how this affects the teams immediate future other than to say they traded Q-Rish too soon

That team is still 2nd or 3rd in the West. Dont think they have much of a chance come playoff time but they will still be good. I dont think you'll get Hunter though unless you offer more than what is on the table now.

i think the two firsts will be one from ATL and one from BOS in the trade with Gary Payton at the trade deadline last season.

Really seems like quite a hose to me, but its better than nothing,

In the K-Mart deal, there was two firsts and then the third first was the LA Clippers UNPROTECTED pick which was key I think.

JJ is a better player than K-Mart, younger and will get similar contracts, along with having much more potential.

I dont get why they got Diaw while they still Barbosa as the backup point gaurd
It actually makes a lot of sense. Diaw is a 6'7" PG and Barbosa is a 6'1" SG. They will be able to play together in the back-court if PHX cant get a better option as the backup PG. I dont expect either to get much PT but they can compliment each other well.
