Originally posted by PointguardI like the move by NY but I cant understand what the team is trying to do. First you draft Channing Frye with the #8 pick. then you sign Jerome James to a 5 year deal. Now you bring in Curry? Curry's not the problem, but its the moves before Curry.
Frye can be moved, but Jerome James is stuck with NY unless NY took on an equally bad contract.Comment

Re: Curry Traded to Knicks!
Heh, I was wondering how long the relationship would last between Tim Thomas and Larry Brown. Brown didn't like Thomas since the first season coaching Thomas when he entered the league in Philly. Now we know the answer.
At any rate, Brown tends to like having a roster deep with bigs. He likes to run an inside-outside offensive sets dominated with low post play. Looks like Curry will be the focal point... and maybe Jerome James as well if Brown can coach him up.
And I can see the Bulls having another deal in the works soon. No way they stick with the current roster they have now throughout the upcoming season with the surplus of forwards and lack of bigs outside Tyson Chandler and Othella Harrington.

Originally posted by NY4LifeSo Skiles will teach Sweetney the way, but couldn't teach Crawford or Curry? Seems you don't know much about the players your getting, yet you feel you got the better of the deal...hmm...
Hmm thats funny. Crawford's last year with the Bulls was the 2003-2004 season. The year that Scott Skiles started coaching the Bulls. The only reason he still played that year for us was because Skiles came in mid season. Which is the reason why we traded him the following year.
Curry can be taught defense. Thats why I said:
"So unless Larry Brown can somehow teach his entire team to play defense, and have Curry healthy for the entire year, they may have a good team."
The difference between the Bulls and the Knicks is team chemistry. We bonded as a team last year. Everyone fed off each other. The reason why Curry wasnt really needed as much on defense last year was due to the fact we had Tyson Chandler and Antonio Davis. Both great defenders. This was another reason why Curry rarely played 4th quarters. However, now that Curry is on the Knicks, where nobody plays defense, he'll just be used as an offensive threat, UNLESS LARRY BROWN CAN TEACH HIM AND THE REST OF THE KNICKS DEFENSE. Unfortunately I highly doubt he can teach neither Curry nor Crawford defense, simply because they are very stubborn. Skiles liked Curry for his size and quickness, but despised him because of his lack of ability to play defense. Hes more of a Tyson fan. But I'm a firm believer of Larry Browns system. Thats why I think that Crawford will most likely be dealt mid season or next offseason. Because I know he wont play defense.
And your comment on crunch time about Thomas?? Lol, I guess you forgot about Ben Gordon. We really dont need anyone other than Ben Gordon to light up crunch time.
I stick to my original statement, we got the better of the deal. You received basically 1 player. A player that may have a potential major heart problem. We received 4 players (included AD, after his release) and a lottery pick. hmm....Comment

I cracked up when I read that.
Tim Thomas played extremely well right after the trade deadline passed last season. Probably the only time in his career that he played somewhat close to his potential.
I didn't watch too much of the Bulls, but TT is a better player than Deng and Nochini (sp?). I can't see the Bulls having TT at his salary as a 3rd stringer. Your best case scenario is that Tim will give it his all being that he's in a contract year.
To whoever mentioned Channing Frye. He's nowhere near ready to be a starting Center nor PF. He's just not polished enough. He'll foul out in 10 minutes. This is a great opportunity for him to get some backup minutes at PF once James picks up 2 quick ones and Curry moves to C. Less pressure.
I love Sweetney. He worked on his low post moves the past 2 offseasons and he's a respectable PF in the East. Can hold his own. But I don't see more than 10-12 PPG Max out of him. Chicago needs a true center.
The Knicks I'm excited. No one knows what Nate Robinson is capable of. This kid can be special. And getting him a true big just might bring some magic.Comment

The draft pick is conditional...it may be lottery protected.Last edited by NY4Life; 10-04-2005, 11:33 PM.Comment

Re: Curry Traded to Knicks!
man curry has a huge load of potential, I MEAN HUGE. I'm talking a combination of Amare Stoudemire and Shaq all-in-one. We'll see how he does this season.
I'm not sure what the bulls are gonna do in the post positions. I am hoping songaila can contribute some offense, and chandler can improve his post game because his defense is already good.Comment

Re: Curry Traded to Knicks!
Originally posted by NY4LifeOh, a draft pick...big deal. The knicks picked up 3 potential quality first rounders this year. I'm not worried about the crapshoot called the NBA Draft. I know Ben Gordon is Clutch...I'm from Mount Vernon, home of Ben Gordon and I watched him torch the Knicks last year... You were the one that is hyping tim thomas up as a contributing factor. If, (and thats a big If) tim thomas contributes, its because he is playing for a contract. You said he would be big in crunch time. Tim Thomas hasn't showed up in crunch time since Villanova. The only upside your getting is Sweets who is a beast on the boards. He is, however, foul prone, not a defensive player, and undersized with weight management issues. The kid has potential to be an Elton Brand (Poor Man's) type or a Clarence Weatherspoon. Curry is 22 and their is still room to mature...I'll take my chances with him...
The draft pick is conditional...it may be lottery protected.
Once again you didnt read my post correctly. I stated that Tim Thomas will help our team get deeper especially during crunch time come May/April.
Please qoute me on where I apparently said Tim Thomas is clutch during crunch time.Comment

Re: Curry Traded to Knicks!
I am a bulls fan through and through... but at least for the short-term - THE BULLS DID NOT GET THE BETTER END OF THIS DEAL.
With the current make-up of our roster as it stands now.... no way can I say we'll make the playoffs with any confidence.. WE DON'T HAVE A CENTER and any with a solid post game. Off the top Othello Harrington probably is the only player that can play well with his back to the basket.
Who is going to command the double teams now without Curry?Comment

Re: Curry Traded to Knicks!
How in the heck are you guys even talking about the Bulls like Curry was the team? I mean, I watched darn near 78 of them games plus the whole playoff run. Ya'll going to be truthful?? I mean, Curry didn't play any 4th quarters that mattered cause of his laziness. How many games do you think the Bulls will win without him? I'm seeing them going to playoffs because we have Deng, Gordon who most likely got better on defense and offense, Duhon who most definitely got better on offense and was already a good defensive player, Tyson who was a post defensive presence, Kirk who could light you up and make good passes and did a pretty good freaking job on defense.
Yeah, Curry dunked it every once in a while and did the post but how many 20+ games did he have last season? Go check it out. How many minutes did he average? I don't even know but I'm pretty sure it was barely scraping 30. I'm a believer that you don't need a superstar to get far. Heck, the Pistons sure did it didn't they and we beat them all last season. The Knicks will be better cause Larry Brown will demand a lot out of them. Now, I don't know how well Larry will get to Curry but I'm curious to find out. Shugknight, your post summed it up well. New York got the worst part of the trade cause we got decent players for a lazy cow who can't play a full half without needing some wind. For crying out loud, ya'll wouldn't know unless ya'll watched Chicago games. Ya'll going learn though....Comment

Originally posted by shugknightFinally a basketball fan that actually knows about basketball. Especially about the Bulls and Curry. If you New Yorkers dont know the truth about Curry, you're about to find out. And I'm telling you, unless Larry Brown has a strict, no bitching policy, there will be a few blockbuster trades that awaits you guys. Because the only actual defender you have on the Knicks will be the Junk Yard Dog.Comment

Re: Curry Traded to Knicks!
You guys are hilarious.. I watched every bulls game last year with the exception of two games last year that was blacked out on NBA League pass. Had the NBA league pass for the last 3 years... so I am not going off of something I have not see or made up in my mind or using hear-say. I've seen Curry do good things last year.. the only thing he had to do was string them together and become consistent.
First off.. Skiles a lot of times sat Curry to make points to players along with others in the starting lineup. You guys might want to down play what Curry brought to the team.. but my eyes tells me Curry if healthy will help New York out more than the crap we got back in the deal as far as players.
Also for the Curry haters if you thought Curry was fat and lazy.. well we're getting a fat body in Sweetney. ....did he swallow a whole McDonalds?
Word is he isn't much a defender.. Tim Tomas... hmmmm ummmm....the best thing about him again is his contract will be off the books at the close of the season.
I will not mention the other guy in the trade... not worth me typing.
The funny thing is that our best player doesn't even start.. and using Chandler as a Center.. is going to really make me p'od because again.. he doesn't have one legitimate post move. We will get owned in the post if Pax doesn't fix this roster as it stands now!!
and If he doesn't......... go back and watch the Bulls vs. Wizards playoff games 3 - 6 you will see our guys get abused by Washington every single one of them (remember we didn't have an answer)!!Comment

Originally posted by NY4LifeAnd if you were up to date and had an extensive knowledge on the NBA, you'd know that the Knicks used their Amnesty to Waive JYD and he retired. Also, Malik Rose and Ariza play defense, so even if JYD was here, "only" would not be the proper term to use. Maybe one of few would be better to say...Last edited by ChicagoNVA; 10-05-2005, 11:42 AM.Comment
