Re: Bowen is the dirtiest player in the NBA

if the offensive player is allowed to dictate where the defensive player stands while they shoot a jumper, the NBA will resemble 2ball more than basketball.

it's the freaking NBA, the guy is playing defense, grow up.

as for the guy that said the highlights don't lie, if you played ball, and were any good, i'm sure i could put together a highlight tape of you doing things that made you look like a dirty player. especially if i had like 500 games on tape.

Bowen is an Isah Thomas type player without Isah's bball skills. Thomas was a drity scrappy player BUT he had other great skills to make people look past that about him. When I see Bowen I see the dude (not Johnny) from the Cobra Kia dojo in the Karate Kid when the sensei sends him in to "sweep the leg"

The offensive player should dictate where the defensive player stands. There's a reason why a foul is called when the defensive player impedes the progress of an offensive player.

            B. Personal Foul

            Section I--Types
            a. A player shall not hold, push, charge into, impede the progress of an oppo-nent by extending a hand, forearm, leg or knee or by bending the body into a posi-tion that is not normal. Contact that results in the re-routing of an opponent is a foul which must be called immediately.

By jumping toward the offensive player, the defender is forcing the shooter to readjust his landing immediately after taking a jump shot - that is if the offensive shooter even has time to think about readjusting since their concentration is on their shooting form.

This is the truth. Bowen is a hard defender. He plays tight defense. I would love him on my team. Bowen should be called for a foul when jumping toward the offensive player AND placing his foot under the shooter's body.
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: Bowen is the dirtiest player in the NBA

I have to say I dont think fans appreciate defense as much as offense. The NBA is really watered down in terms of physical play these days.

Go back and watch the Bad Boys - Rodman, Mahorn, Laimbeer,

Then go back and watch the Mavericks' Derek Harper. He would literally shove an offensive player in any direction he wanted them to go.

Watch the knicks with Ewing and crew. They physically beat the crap out of people.

Now watch Bowen play defense under the namby-pamby defensive rules the NBA has now and he is amazing how well he plays it. He is not physically trying to hurt a guy, but is doing all he can to prevent the guy from scoring. Each time he steps on the court, you know he is going to give his all to try to stop the other team's superstar. Is that going to lead to some injuries? yes unfortunately, but not intended. BBall is a physical game.

If only other players would work as hard as he does on defense, and not coast thru literally half the game.

How good is a 20-25pt/game superstar if he gives up 18ppg to the opponent? who is probably the other team's weakest scorer, in order to "protect" the offensive superstar.

oh yeah, my vote for dirty player is Reggie "ball grabbin" Evans. THAT is dirty play.

Just heard from my local sport radio station that the NBA just warned Bruce Bowen to not put his foot underneath a player when they are shooting, otherwise he would be punished.
