Not to mention that if you did poll those old dudes, I gurantee they'd penalize Nique as the poster-child for what has deteriorated the league...flashy scorers who don't do anything else particularly well, and/or haven't carried their team to that elite level consistently. Nique also had very suspect D, the old guys would bake him for that. Nique was a beast...maybe you bump a Dave Bing or sumpthin' but he is borderline. He had that great series against the original Birdman, but besides that he was just a rawdog scorer, IMO. Pip was the truth.Last edited by HMcCoy; 12-15-2005, 03:03 AM.Hank's Custom Collectibles 3D printer/painter extraordinaireComment

Re: Pippens thoughts
And I totally don't see it that way.
They know what Nique did. The Hawks were a perennial playoff team for awhile with a roster of nothing besides him. He still is the face of that sorry franchise. He played a sidekick to no one.
No way is Nique the reason for the deteriorated league of today. These knucklehead players aren't going to come close to touching the 25,000+ points that he put up. They don't have the desire nor consistency.
I don't buy into that Scottie Pippen was the best SF in the league for any stretch of his career. If he was so great, he would have been able to do it in any other situation which I don't think he as capable of.
This is the same guy who sulked on the bench because the last play of a game wasn't drawn up for him.
Those old dudes wouldn't criticize Nique because they played against him. They know what he brought to the table. He went to battle against most of those guys so he fell into the same category as them during the "changing of the guards" to the players of today.
Dominique is a flat out legend. He's cut from a different cloth than Pippen. I'm not sure why people can't see that.Comment

Re: Pippens thoughts
You don't have nearly 27,000 career points and career averages of 25/7/2.5 if you're just a legendary dunker. And this was in basketball's best era......"You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Jistic, you failed to mention him being NBA All Second Team (chopped liver, huh) in the same era as Bird, Drexler, King, etc.Comment

NBA first team 3 times, all defensive team 8 years straight.
Also,
Scottie is 40th all time in scoring, 4th all time steals, 23rd in assists.
He's got the stats, he's got the awards, and he's got the hardware. I just don't see where he doesn't fit the profile.
'Nique was a nice player, I acknowledge that. Believe me I was watching the NBA since the late '70's. I just think Pippen was a better overall player and deserves his due. Just my opinion.PSN: JISTIC_OS
