Prince withdraws from Olympic Team Consideration

But Tayshaun, you're not even close to being good enough to be picked on that team.

I wouldn't have minded him on the team. He's a great defensive player, and is only going to improve.

    Too bad.

i thought they were trying to build an actual 'team' this time, as opposed to just a bunch of superstars. and if that's the case, prince seems like he would be the perfect kind of player to have on the team.

He was being considered by jerry so I guess that means he is good enough..

"good enough" has a different meaning than it used to when it comes to the Olympic team. Yes, in previous years, Prince wouldn't have been "good enough", but now that they're trying to build a team that can play together, he is "good enough".

The thing I find funny is that there's supposed to be an initial list of 20 players who are brought into camp, and then it's cut down to 12. So, they're actually going to cut people from the team. Gotta suck to agree to play and then get cut.

                Lets be real here.

                If the lineup consisted of

                Billups
                Kobe
                Lebron
                KG
                Shaq

                with Bench guys like

                Brand
                Bosh
                Redd
                T-Mac
                VC

They would wipe the floor out of any team. Last olympics you had freaking Marbury as your point man, and Larry Brown was too stupid to not play James and Wade or Carmelo enough minutes.

I kind of agree except shaq seems to have hit his peak already and is declining imo, so the post might not be that strong, but you still would have all-around players dominating the courts to make up for it.

They finally realized they need a team and role players to win nowadays, not just a buncha all-stars. It's different than back in the day with the Dream Teams.

Besides, Prince will need to take the summer off after the Pistons win another title.

He's an overrated defender who doesn't get many steals or blocks. He can't cover stronger slashers like Richard Jefferson. He's not a good enough shooter to make the team as a shooter. I pretty much just feel he is in the perfect situation for him.

Exactly...people use the 2004 team to show that a team of stars can't win...it was just a horribly selected team. I mean how many slashers did this team need (Anthony, Lebron, RJ, Marion, Odom, Wade)...not one pure shooter. The team didn't have a real point guard, instead going with shooting point guards. It also missed Shaq, Kobe, KG, T-Mac, four of the best players the U.S. has to offer. Add some more elite players, pure point guards like J Kidd and Chris Paul, and they win without average forwards like Tayshaun Prince.

Shaq is still 7'2 and 340 pounds. He would dominate the inside, age or not.

i don't agree with him being an overrated defender.. i've seen him take kobe out of games instantly. going back to the 04 finals and just a week ago. so what he doesn't get stats, stats are overrated. look at what kobe's doing.. his team is still 8th seed, only 3 games over 500.

ill agree that he is in the perfect situation.. just like those 4 other starters on the pistons.. if anything, prince is underrated.

he wouldve been ideal for the olympic team.. in fact like others have previously said.. why not just send the pistons to the games?

That's definately what they should do. Unfortunately it'll never happen.
