Take a look at the majority of centers in this league.

Most of them attempt to play like Shaq. Look at Dampier, his play style is almost parallel to Shaq's, but he's not as good or as strong.

Right now in the league, if you are an offensive center, you probably play like Shaq, he has become the norm for scoring centers in the league these days.

To take advantage of some passing plays. Im not saying stick him there and leave him there, but the offense this team runs now is stale with no cutters and its predictable.

Pass to Yao and you know what he's going to do and if he tries to put it on the floor then you can dive for the ball and steal it from him. Why?

As simple as you know there won't be one person cutting towards the basket and you know only tmac can create his own shot.

The others are mediocre jumpshooters. Rafer Alston is sub-par but JVG allowed him ot play 44 minutes a game and refused to trade Juwan Howard to get Mike James because of what he called chemistry.

That guy is an idiot I dont care what anybody says. He's a coach who gets outcoached and asks his players to adjust to him rather than create something that plays to their strengths. YAO is not a banger.

        nobody loves goliath..
Yao is definitely alot better than he gets credit for..

Plainly put..sometimes he just gets LOST in NBA games..
he has ALOT of things, but what he still lacks is the mentality..
        he's gotta find it somehow.someway

Give the guy a break he did average 25 pts 9.5 rebs and 2 blks per game.
Those are some pretty good #'s, I dont think some people realize how hard it would be to come to a totally foreign land and be a dominant player.
I think his biggest problem is sometimes his team mates do not look for him enough. He is a center not a guard he has to have someone get him the ball in scoring position.

... and after watching the "offense" that JVG put together, how many good op's do you thing he gets to really take advantage down low.

Most of the time its the High PnR, or its a 1-4 Iso for T-Mac.

            But I could be wrong...

You're hindering your team when you have a big man like Yao and a swingman like Tmac. You can't keep a consistent pace during games when your two stars play completely different styles.

Yeah before college though so he played college ball at Houston with Clyde, Yao came over and was in the NBA right from the start, I think thats the point he is trying to make.

How about that big white guy Sabonis of Portland? He was pretty good too, except he came on the wrong era with Olajuwon, Ewing, Robinson and Shaq. He can certainly bang with the best Centers in the league back then, but he is too slow against the elite Centers. He also have a good FT and good 3 perimeter shooting. I think he can do better than Yao in this era, but with the NBA not so big on big guys, that could be a problem. Nobody would know Yao if he played on Sabonis era too. Also that guy Vlade Divac who also played during the golden years era. Those two guys could have been considered elite Centers on this era. But on those years, they are only considered a little bit above average.

Also Peja Stojakovic and Tony Kukoc. I think Tony Parker and Ginobli. Wasn't Tony Parker also became an MVP candidate before?

T-Mac and Yao also don't run the triangle offense, or have the supporting cast Shaq and Kobe did either.

                        Your argument is invalid.

Yao Ming is not a bad player. I think he averaged 20pts 10rebs a game. Last time I checked, that ain't that bad. During the season I didn't hear anybody complaining. He is what he is. He not going to be a leader or a dominant player, but he was by far the best center this season.

All of these guys spoke English when they came to the NBA, and no Tony Parker has never been close to being the league MVP.

I find it funny when folks bring up Sabonis. Like he was a GREAT nba player. He was a solid player, who was past his prime when he came over. He had great skill sets, and he had a big body. But his European accomplishments mean didly poo to me. And he won NOTHING over here. There are many NBA centers I would take over him. Hell id probably take Bill Walton over him, and I always felt Walton was overrated.
