i agree with the playoffs are too long, i enjoyed it when the 1st round was a best of 5. Now with each series being 7 games the season goes well into june and almost july. But usually around this time of year everyones (or most peoples thoughts) are either on baseball or the upcoming football season. the NBA really needs to take a long look at their product and come up with ways to make it enjoyable again.

Re: NBA Ratings continue to slide
i'm an nba fan who also happens to be a fan of a small market team.
i dont' watch as much as i used to during the reg season because to me espn/abc coverage panders to the big market teams like the lakers and the knicks. it just gets old after a while talking about these lottery teams from large markets. who cares?
i've watched almost all of the playoffs though, and will continue to do so even if my team gets knocked out. the nba is by far my favorite sport.Comment

A) Shorten the regular season
or
B) Start the season a month or two earlier, as nobody cares about the games during football season anyway.
Either way, I think the best thing for the NBA would be to piggyback off of March Madness and start the playoffs then.Comment

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

Re: NBA Ratings continue to slide
1. Probably the two smallest Western Conference markets
2. The bad taste of the last series
3. Two of, if not the two most boring teams in the NBA
will not help ratingsComment

Re: NBA Ratings continue to slide
Continued success often makes a team's fanbase apathetic and not to mention they're playing the Jazz who most people think will be swept. It's the same thing that eventually happened to the Braves. The first half of their excellent run they had sold out crowds but by the second half of it it became so old hat that the crowds would dwindle until the Braves were in the World Series.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: NBA Ratings continue to slide
no one really cares about utah except utah
the nba continues to kill the conference finals with this division crap
people are tired of abc
the nba shoved certain individuals down your throats all year and now they can't market these two teams at the last second
looking at the last 4 teams its that vomit in the stomach that you know is coming up real soonComment

Re: NBA Ratings continue to slide
I think the folks at NBA HQ are praying that Lebron somehow gets into the Finals. I think that'd be the only way to salvage what has been a crappy playoffs and deflect a bit from the HORRIBLE decision making by Stern and co. regarding the SA/PHX series.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: NBA Ratings continue to slide
There's no data that indicates LBJ draws better than the other big stars in the NBA. All of the 4 teams remaining won't draw good ratings. Interest in the NBA in North America has been fading for years.
Lasy year the NBA had 2 big markets in Dallas and Miami (and tons of stars like Dirk, Wade, and Shaq) and the ratings were still bad.
The declining interest in the NBA is why Cuban doesn't understand why Stern is focusing so much of his time on promoting the game internationally. Cuban said they should focus on cities in America that don't have an NBA team. He said games should be played in cities like Pittsburgh, Kansas City, etc...
Edit: I believe the Cavs played a pre-season game in Pittsburgh this season.Last edited by VanCitySportsGuy; 05-21-2007, 02:32 PM.Comment
