No he wasn't. Magic was one of he most athletic players in the league when he came into the NBA. Durant is of average athleticism for NBA small forwards. If we're talking, head to head than your point would stand, but that's never a good argument for these comparisons. Relatively speaking, Magic was much more athletic than Durant.

Very debatable considering what measurements you wanna use to define athletic. I personally think a guy 6'9 who played the point and center is pretty damn athletic. I'm strictly talking about Young Magic.

Man, Julius Erving and Dominique Wilkins, James Worthy....Magic played with tons of guys that were much, much, much more athletic than him. I don't know where people get this idea that men couldn't jump in 1980, LOL.

I think that argument was that the league as a whole is more athletic now than it was back then. The average height, weight, bench press, 40 time, vertical leap, etc. are higher now than they were then... but that doesn't mean that the 80's didn't have some of the most athletic individuals of all time.

Right, but the point is, Magic was never in that group. The group of phenomenal athletes was always there to compare him to, and he was never considered CLOSE to any of them. If you can watch Connie Hawkins and Bernard King run and jump, you have enough athletes to say "Magic Johnson isn't athletic". He was never considered athletic. He even jokes about it sometimes. He was never one of the fastest guys at his position, nor was he one of the higher jumpers at his size(or any size). He was always a mediocre athlete, but a world class basketball player because of his skills, size and bball IQ.

I guess you & DC are right. He was never an elite NBA athlete. I get too caught up with comparing these guys to regular folks so when people think so & so aren't great athletes I get a little defensive.

                      Re: Kevin Durant

Kevin Durant is in 9th place on the list for most dunks this year. He has 7 less than Lebron James with 90 compared to James' 97. He's third among Small forwards behind Bron and Iggy and has only two less dunks than Iggy.

We already knew he was the best SF on the perimeter. Now we know that he dunks as much as anyone, with just 7 less than the freakazoid himself.

                      Unathletic? Pshaw.

                      Kevin is a MONSTER.

He was the most athletic 6'8 point guard ever to come out of Michigan State.

There's some CBS "dunk-o-meter" thing that was linked elsewhere, but I like 82games best: http://www.82games.com/0809/FGSORT16.HTM
