I've said several times in this thread that the Mavericks will be competitve in the playoffs. They won't just be a walk in the park like everyone else seems to think. I never once said that they will win a title this year, or even be in the Western Conference Finals for that matter. I just said that nobody would want to play them, or Sac, LA or the Spurs either.

And if you want realistic, here it is...This team has only been together for one year. That's it. It takes time to grow and time to gel as a team. We are getting closer as each game passes, but we're obviously still not there yet.

Please read my comments a little more carefully before labeling me as a "homer". Thanks!

You just don't get it do you? The Kings can run and shoot with the Mavs, but the Kings do one thing that the Mavs don't. The Kings will play defense. And since you're mister stat boy here are a few for you. In head to head against these four teams, San Antonio is 6-2, Sacramento is 4-3 and both Dallas and LA are 2-4. And here is the biggest stat of them all, in Dallas' four losses they gave up an average of 112.5 points, far from a good defensive team if you ask me. So there's your argument, but I'm going to guess that it won't be good enough for you. And so I don't sound bias, they did give up 72 and 87 in the wins, but the 72 came against a Laker team that didn't have Shaq. So I will continue to keep on talking about layup drills and I'll even throw in a dunk contest or two. You are also right about the regular season meaning nothing, I agree with you on that point and that point alone. But when the Kings have run your boys in 6 out of the last 7 in pretty much easy form, I'd think twice about some of the things you say. Look at it this way. I'm a Kings fan that respects the Lakers and what they can do, and frankly they are the only team that scares me, because right now they have the Kings' number.

you are right, i cant argue with you there, but yes the regular season means nothing in this new year. And you should learn to ATLEAST respect the mavericks, you DO NOT get the best record in the league for nothing. I for one, respect the kings, and fear them moreso than the lakers, although, if shaq comes back at full strength it will be a good one. And its seems that you are overlooking the mavericks, but thats a good thing ..maybe you dont get it, I KNOW the kings can beat the mavs, but I am just trying to point out to you that the mavs are not a walk in the park, and you will see this thursday. If the kings stomp the mavs again, then I will come back and give the kings props, which i have been doing...

Hmmm, the only thing I see is the Mavs not getting any respect. The reason is that it is only the regular season still. They haven't proved that much. And respect is earned, not given to anyone. The Kings got mad respect for what they did last year in the playoffs, then lost a little by complaining so much. The Mavs got repect last year when they won a bunch of games in the regular season, then lost most of it when Sac wiped the floor with them in the playoffs. Fun series, but all those dunks and layups. Even Mark Cuban acknowledged that. And during this season, even Nellie admitted they weren't the best team in the NBA. I don't hate them, but they just gotta prove it. . . . to earn respect.

i get what you are saying, but the kings and the mavs didnt win a thing... THe lakers won and thats all there is to it. THe kings should have one but blew it. I think the mavs deserve some respect having the best record in the league, and getting in the second rnd of the playoffs in the past two years. Previous to these years the mavs were a joke in the league...

I know that. I respect them. I honestly do. They have the makings of a great team. They have a great organization, management, owner, coach, players, everything. They are just missing that one true low-post defensive-minded player to get them over the hump. Then no one would be able to stop them.

I'm just saying that the Kings and Lakers all went thru their bad spots and learning curve that the Mavs are going thru now, and only winning will bring more respect. They are in the same place the Kings were like 2-3 years ago. They are on the right track, they just need a little more, or get better on D, and go inside more.
