Okay we can make this a sticky since there are a few threads on the subject. I am not going to lock existing posts but any new ones will be locked.

Sure Kobe is having a great run right now, but I'm not sure it will last till the end of the season, so I think either Garnet or Duncan will win the MVP. Their teams largely depend on them, and they're the only reason why their teams are successful.
" I look at him and it's getting to the point where it's just scaring me. He looks younger but he doesn't carry himself in a younger manner. He's impressive, and I'm glad we drafted him. "

everyone mentions kobe, and duncan and garnet, it really should be jason kidd. im surprised he didnt win it last year and hes having an even better year this year, what would jersey be without kidd? he took the team all the way to finals last year and might be able to do again this year. mvp is a guy who makes thier whole team better, kobe bryant definatley does not do that. yes hes a great player and puts up great stats but the guy doesnt make the team better, and i think shaq is the mvp of that team, they cant win it all without him. on the other hand j kidd took jersey from a loosing team year in and year out to a top team in the east and made everyone on that team play better. My vote would go to him, if not tim duncan cause hes carrying that spurs team and just does it all.

I don't get it with these stupid debates. I was watching ESPN and they are just totally clueless when it comes to watching basketball. The award is for the most valuable player. Meaning without that particular player, the team cannot win. So, let's break in down into these categories, shall we?

Does the team solely depend on that particular player to make everyone else better, meaning they DO NOT have a second top 5 or top 10 player on their team?
So we have the following, Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett, Allen Iverson, Jason Kidd, and T-Mac are the only ones to fit this category. Kobe is already eliminated.

What's the team win/loss record with this particular player?
This eliminates both Phili and Orlando because they both are at or below .500. Kobe is also eliminated with a 5-10 record. Do you honestly think (to the Kobe fans) that Duncan would be 5-10 if he were on the Lakers instead of Kobe and Shaq?

                Strength of competition?
Again this eliminates any team in the east like the Nets. Pistons are the second best team in the east because of their competition. Enough said.

MVP: There are really only two people who are even a discussion for this award. That is Tim Duncan and Kevin Garnett. Duncan wins only because he has a better record than Garnett. They both are basically even with team talent and strength of competition.

Critic, that is one great avitar of the all time MVP and i must admit that i agree with your take on the mvp race. I think that KG and Duncan should be the two that it comes down between.

my vote would be mr. garnett! he has been amazing this season, he is mr. everything and he has carried his team on his shoulders, points rebounds, blocks, assists. EVerything, i think he deserves to be the mvp, this is the time! all star mvp, why not the real MVP!

Yeah, especially after that trick he pulled off to help the T-Wolves win tonight.
